I dunno, i kind of agree with burning vigor. that’s like saying someone figured out how to make some badass drug and us bitching about not releasing the formula. if he really figured it out, he can release it whenever…
but yeah, i hope he does

Dude, Capcom recently moved locations and got rid of everything from the arcade division. I know because I was there when they were moving. They were tossing everything into dumpsters. To them it’s junk, they don’t care or support the now dead arcade division. Some lucky bastard might of gotten a hold of some programming hardware and sold it to those guys in Canada.
This is just speculation but seems like a likely scenerio. This isn’t a fact, I’m just trying to figure out how these guys are reviving dead carts if that’s even the case.
Or maybe they just figured out another way to do it.
Just the other day I saw a CPS testing station on Craigslist, I HOPE THAT WASN’T IT! The ad is gone now.
if he does have the programing hardware, then it’s time for me to finally get 3’s. if not, o well.
I think someone should take one for the team and send it to him and see if it works.
And albert is correct about Capcom moving. I work around the corner from them. Drove by and they finally finished moving sadly…
i can understand not releasing how to do it for business purposes. but the fact that this service is completely unknown in any of the main communites that it would benifit massively for the consumer, and especially for himself. i just find it funny and suspicious. he could bring em back for all we know. but judging off past knowledge, i have massive doubts on this, and it should be understandable
Awesome that he can revive dead carts if that’s true, but why not share the love?
I can understand if this guy happens to be anti-emulation but let’s face it…there will never be another original Street Fighter, so why not give it the Phoenix treatment and hand off the info to the emulators.
damn i better get battery changed for my JAP cart soon…
At $150 bucks, you’re profiteering off of hobbyists and the occasional arcade operator.
Atleast Razoola’s ?30(about $40) is reasonable.
I’m not questioning whether or not he can do it, I just think that doing it with out releasing all the tech info on it is pretty fucked up. Mostly because his business will dry up when someone else figures it out.
if he is the only means to get it done, why should he not profit?
Because it’s good faith to play nice with the community? Unless the process itself is horribly expensive(which is possible), I don’t see why this guy’s charging a $150 for a repair.
What I’m also wondering is why hasn’t this guy come forward?
Odds are they’re not a part of the community and so don’t a crap about it or sharing the knowledge. Making $ is they’re only concern, in which case it totally understandable why they haven’t released info and charge so much. Honestly if I didn’t post here i’d probably do the same
Think about it, the person probably knows that Capcom USA doesn’t do this anymore and so is trying to make bank off his monopoly. makes sense to me.
OR maybe the person is in the arcade industry internationally and has contacts are capcom jp.
Okay, so he’s found a way to retrieve the keys off a working USA cart. Which is impressive in it self. Can anyone clarify that it will work the CD from another region? Thanks.
until i can get confirmation from a reliable source, im still calling BS.
i can understand that he dont post here and what not. not everyone knows about these places. but apparently hes been doing this for a while from what it sounded like from burning vigor. and the fact that NO ONE, in any community(fgc, emulation, and arcade hardware scenes) knew about this, just makes you raise a flag. cuz this would be huge news. so its either bs, or this guy is terrible at spreading the word. anf the fact that an srk member(burning vigor), apparently had this done twice, and never let out this humongous news, makes me even more weary. i mean, if others had this service done, where are these guys at with the news? i just find it really hard to believe that this service has been available and its been this silent. just doesnt sound right.
Why doesn’t somebody just ask the guy VIA Ebay HOW he revives dead carts. Or someone with a dead cart and spare 150 have at it.
Oh and if this turns out to be true, someone sell me a “dead” 3s Kit for super cheap right now!
-edit- I just did it myself. We’ll see what he says.
Whoa. Subscribing to THIS shit.
I’m going to sticky this thread until we get to the bottom of this.
It’s definitly possible. If he got a hold of the machine then he is one lucky guy.
went by capcom last night to try my luck… dumpster was completely empty.
I doubt highly he got ahold of an official capcom board; it makes much more sense that he figured out how to do it on it.
Here’s the main question I have; if what he says is true, then wouldn’t it make sense that he could put whatever keys he wanted on the cart? That’d turn any CPS-3 board with enough ram into a machine that would play any CPS-3 game just by reprogramming the cart when you want to switch games. We already know legit carts and boards can used burned CD’s without a problem, as long as it matches the security card being used.
I’m confused, here is the email he sent me:
We fix any DEAD 3rd Srike security cartridge back to works live for Asia English version only at price US$150.00 each including return shipping. interesting send cartridge to …(never have Capcom USA version)
358 Hillcrest Ave.,
North York, Ontario
M2N 3P8
Canada
Does that mean that he brings dead carts back as ASIA carts with english text? Or does it mean he brings it back as USA text? cause we all know asia carts are kinda worthless as its missing sounds and what not.
and what does the “(never have capcom USA version)” imply or mean.
I’m kinda lost, if i can find a broken sf3:3s, i’ll pony up the 150 to see if this dood is legit.
Wow. Sounds like he sends back the carts to Capcom Japan to do a repair as an ASIAN region repair.
What’s an “Asia English version”?
