Reversing the positioning on an arcade stick?

After getting SSF4 over a year ago and getting a TE stick that following winter, I’ve been practicing a lot since.
However, I haven’t been improving. This is mainly because my execution sucks and I’m limiting myself to execution easy characters, mainly Cody.

My biggest problem with my execution is that the idea of having my left hand doing the motions is simply absurd to me. I’m normally a PC gamer, so I’m used to pressing buttons with my left and moving my right. Using an arcade stick is so backwards and unfamiliar, that even after a year it still feels awkward.

So my question to you fine folks is this: Is it possible to mod an arcade stick (in this case, the limited edition SSF4 TE) so that the joystick is on the right and the buttons are on the left?
It seems like all I would need would be a reversed faceplate, but I’m concerned about the lengths of the wires.
Also, is there somewhere I can order a reversed faceplate? I’d like to not having to play guessing games because that kind of guesswork seems rather expensive if I screw up.

You also have to keep in mind that there is a metal plate there with the mounting brackets.

However, you can get a custom acrylic faceplate made by tek-innovations, so you can place the buttons and joystick wherever you want.

Read here for information:

The custom panel builder:

Wires may not be long enough, but you can crimp your own wires if you need to.

You may also need this:
http://www.lizardlick.com/JLF-TE-Harness-for-MadCatz-FightSticks_p_615.html

It is longer than the original harness.

You may actually also have to cut some of the plastic below the joystick to make a hole so that the joystick will rest without touching the plastic.

Possible? Yes. Solderless? Yes. Easy? Maybe.

I felt that way when I first bought my stick, and considered having another panel made with everything switched. Honestly though, it’s something you should get used to rather than avoid.

I didn’t just buy the stick though, I’ve been practicing for a year now and I’m still screwing up big time.
I know I’d do way better switching places because, like I said, I play a lot of PC games so my left hand is used to button presses and my right is used to motions.

Thanks for the info Nerrage. It seems simple enough.

Play cross handed.

Play cross handed or make a “goofy foot” (reversed) Panel for your stick.

Goofy foot is a skateboarding term for leading or having your off foot in front.
Example: being right handed and having your left foot in front.

Goofy is how I skate.

But it is weird, goofy seems to be more common.

Southpaw is cool. I play that in Halo.

What is the southpaw for game pads again?
Swapped Analog sticks?

Yes.

Thinking of modding a controller that way so I can play games like Fallout 3 which do not support Southpaw.

Do it because tech talk. Now.

It wouldn’t actually be a very difficult mod assuming all goes well. I could throw it together in a heartbeat.

Coming from a background of both PC and console I know how you feel, but it isn’t truly that hard to adapt to once you get used it. I take it you only played Street Fighter though, as every other PC game I have ever played has you move with the WASD keys.

Dunno about pads, but for sticks, the style is called “Cloth Handed” in honor of “Cloth Hands” himself, Seth Killian.

I’m not trying to be a d-bag or derail this thread…just wanted to clarify.

Regular foot = your left foot is in front
Goofy foot = your right foot is in front.

It has nothing to do with the foot you push with, although you should always push with your back foot.

As for Kazagin’s problem. I would try playing cross-handed first. See if that helps you with you execution before you go out spending money on something that isn’t going to help your situation. I remember having to play cross-handed at some arcades because the joystick was on the right and the buttons were on the left. It wasn’t to hard to get used to, though.

The first part is correct, but tell that last thing to Eric Koston when he’s pushing switch. Its called Mongo foot.

TS, you should go ahead and do the faceplate thing if you can. Why not, right? The TE is perfect for modding.

Who cares, I haven’t touched a Skate board in 15 years. I just drawling an analogy from staking to joysticks. Debating about skating is getting off topic any ways.

The point is letting the OP know he should be free to go with the play style and layout that the Op feels conformable with. The TE is easy to mod. For a reverse layout you will need to cut out that middle plastic player with the button holes inside the case so the Joystick can fit.

Irrelevant
Seriously, who is going to go to SRK Tech Talk for the finer points of Skate board terminology.? No One, no one cares.
I think it is interesting that other skate boarders posted before you and did not care that I messed up on the term Goofy foot.
As I said again the term was used as an analogy as it was what popped into my head first.
I was willing to concede that I was wrong since I been out of skating so long, but that was how I was taught.
Any ways all of this is way off topic. Thank you for derailing the topic further. Any any more argument on the topic will only help to further detail the topic.

Now to try to get back on to topic.Op if you got any questions on cutting out that middle layer or anything else that would help with you play style or mod ideas please ask.

if you really want to switch badly and keep your TE, try contacting blklightning for a custom metal panel or as nerrage said, go for art at tekinnovations for a plexi replacement panel
