the person who made the thread maybe on the 1st page. If your going to talk about every kind of retro console, why does no one talk about atari and intellivision, that was pretty much the 1st console war
I’ve been in this thread form the beginning when it was expressly changed from SNES x Genisis thread to a general retro gaming thread. So no, it does not have to be limited to 16 bit era.
While I did emphasize the 16 bit era initially it can reference retrogaming in general. There are after all very solid PS1/N64 era games that deserve attention as well.
Edit: hmmm to be more efficient I think we should try doing a master list of every notable retrogame per genre that I can post on the 1st page. Lots of games have been posted so far but for reference sakes it might easier to compress it all to a definitive list.
I definitely agree. However, they are just what retro games are not: polygon-based, full of cut scenes, not demanding in terms of difficulty, and so on. While, say, one may - and should - have fond memories of great games such as Conker’s Bad Fur Day or OoT, really sounds strange that someone counts them as “retro”. If one simply adds more polygons and improves textures, maybe adds voices when they are not present, they look like a game released just today.
Home versions are just inferior CPS-1 ports. Just check the Nagoyan videos for high-level SF2 tech. Parts 1 and 12 are here, but all others are on YT.
As an example of advanced stuff, the dizzy attack in the 1:28 comeback is an instant overhead. Much of the shit there is beyond comprehension to most people on SRK, since they demand profound SF2 knowledge.
Now if you really want some 16-bit version videos, there are videos of two Japanese SF2 tournaments: one for Hyper Fighting and one for Super. Post by Papasi.
As a baseline everything before 6th gen (PS2/XB/DC/GC) should be considered retro by now. There were still tons of action/shmup/beatemup/platform/arcade racing games in the Sat/PS1/64 gen, even though things were transitioning to “modern” gaming.
