Golden Axe 3 was ass. Yu Yu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen blows the piss out of the SNES fighting games.
English Terranigma is crazy expensive and you have extra hoops to jump through to play PAL games on an NTSC system. Sadly I’ll emulate it and hopefully pic up a Japanese version some day. Same with Bahamut Lagoon.

SoR2 is poor. SoR2 Mania is decent but at the same time easier than the other SoR games. I can’t stand that part 3 has so many distractions from actually fighting. Other great beatemups focus on fighting strategy, as in your characters engaging crowds or bosses and/or both, but 3 is filled with weapon management and platforming and defusing bombs and not-fighting the correct boss. 1 is okay (the “nostalgia” argument in a retro thread? Why?), 2 doesn’t rank high against other beatemups, but the design has more in common with straightforward arcade brawlers than 3. SoR is almost like SF Alpha-- 1 is too basic, 2 is solid but not amazing compared to similar games, 3 has way too much going on and is an acquired taste.
On the contrary, I’ve played and beat SoR3 on its hardest difficultly. I know that you can’t even beat the game if you don’t play it on hard anyway.
Still, if you think SoR3 is this glorious beacon of light, you are only kidding yourself.

Fuck…what happened between the nes days and now that games became giant pussies. Games back then were hardcore, manly shit level hard…now it’s like anyone can just beat a game.
It’s weird. It’s one of those games that starts out kinda’ meh than as soon as you’re fighting Terminators it starts to get really good. Boss battles range from generic to kinda’ bad. If you fuck up and die with ED209’s machine gun it is virtually impossible to beat him. Other than that it was a great shooter and the Genesis version had more gore.

So I was looking at some of the nes games that were released towards the end of its cycle and the contrast in visual quality between those games and a game like Mario is massive. I often wonder how good nes games would look like now with the modern understanding of 8 bit power.
Skyblazer was pretty rare for snes till people found out about it, now its like 20 bucks
super turricon 1 and 2 are very good shooters if you like contra games
