I had a NES, SNES, and Genesis. Missed out on the 32 bit era mostly. Right around the time that I got the N64 was when I got into PC gaming. Been a PC dude ever since. Did buy a Wii because I loved the idea behind it but the execution for motion control was awful aside from Wii Sports and owned a PS3 for a few fighters.
Aside from PC I still love the Genesis the most but I’ve always loved action games and could never get into RPG’s. Also, Castlevania Bloodlines is way better than Castlevania 4. Fuck that game.
Speaking from my experience with comparing the Mortal Kombat games, SNES had the better graphics and sound by a long shot, all Sega had going for it was MK1 with the blood option. Genesis had the better Jurassic Park game, if that counts. And Moonwalker. (Those were the only two games I had besides Sonic 1). I can’t remember which system I played more, I had more games for SNES but all of our friends had different games for different systems we would all play together. And remember renting games? That sure was fun. Back then it wasn’t a war, we just loved both systems for what they were, for the most part. Looking back, I would say I have more love for Nintendo, but still had lots of good times on Sega.
Good stuff! I’ll match with Contra III, the Fly-swatting mini-game in Mario Paint, Separation Anxiety and Maximum Carnage respectively, Legend of Mystical Ninja, Gradius III and so much more.
Sidebar; I remember as a kid FIENDING for Super Metroid at Funcoland but instead parent’s bought Bases Loaded for NES. Needless to say, I was highly upset. This thread is bringing back the repressed memories.

I’m sure there’s a lot that I left out. That’s just games that I remember personally owning at one point in time.
Man I’m not gonna get into which console is better, as I love them both to death. I was a Nintendo kid growing up, but I always had friends/cousins with dat Genesis, so I got to enjoy the best of both worlds.
Super NES had some watershed moments-- Super fuckin’ Metroid being the first time a game ever got an emotional reaction out of me. Fuck an Aeris… when the Baby Metroid got murked, I was legit pissed Final Fantasy II(IV) and III(VI) with actual characters rather than cardboard cutouts. Seeing the Mega Man series evolve into the X series with its heavy guitar riffs and faster gameplay, and in my opinion, the most aesthetically beautiful 2D platformer ever in Yoshi’s Island… SUPER MARIO RPG, CHRONO TRIGGER… and that’s just scratching the surface of the massive library… SNES was a boss.
Genesis, however, was the hardcore, twitch gamer’s heaven… Streets of fuckin’ Rage II, Vectorman, Sonic, GUNSTAR HEROES, Contra: Hard Corps, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Road Rash 2, Shinobi III… man, oh man was the Genesis ever a constant test of your skills.
16-bit era will NEVER be topped… fuck a Triple A “experience”, kids today don’t know shit about dat Greatest Era of Gaming. Yes, I’m an “old man gamer” and I’m ever so glad I got to grow up in that era.
