Resident Evil 6

Just play max difficulty with the A.I. I’m pretty sure that is like being alone…lol.

Leon’s campaign, from the small but of this game that I’ve paid attention to, just appears to be an old school RE fans’ wet dream. And there’s his partner by his side the whole time, ruining the fear of it all. This game looks so fun in a lot of ways and so disappointing in a lot of others. Hopefully I’ll be wrong on that. I want to love this real hard.

Nah man, that’s like having to be forced to drag Ashley on another adventure, only this time you have nowhere to dump her and she eats all of your supplies.

An old school RE fans wet dream would be the return of tank controls and fixed cameras. Because that’s the only way RE can ever be slightly scary. Other than that it was all jump scares and making sure you didn’t use up too much ammo so you could be ready for boss fights.

Fear of the unknown is the only way any game can be scary anymore.

The partner AI was shit. It will waste resources like they were candy and will get itself killed in many situation. A.I partner was only good for being a pack mule. From the gameplay footage I’ve seen from RE6, the partner A.I stays out of your way most of the time. Hopefully it won’t be a problem this time around

I went ahead and pre-ordered the special edition today. I dunno why, since I own every game in the series, but I’d feel like something was missing with the standard.

That’s all I have to say about co-op in RE5. Shit was still spooky alone and with a person next to me. An unknown or overwhelming force can always be scary.

That Leon video really made me dream for a “The Thing” game done better than the PS2 one. :frowning: Maybe Dead Space 3 will fix that urge some. Both of the games seem to have super heavy inspiration drawn from the movie, in regards to the creature design.

Fear of the Unknown is the only fear that works in video games.

You’ve never been scared in a game where the enemy overwhelm you? And even if you haven’t been scared I have. Half-Life 2’s Ravenholm used to scare the shit out of me because of both the unknown and seeing a wave of headcrab zombies come my way.

The only tension in games, horror or not is when there is a “fear” of losing. If I have a means to fight back, I’ll probably would try to in a video game and not feel scared at all. If all that was given to you in RE3 when you fought Nemesis is a knife, I’ll probably try to fight back and die a couple times trying to kill him before running (I also hate mandatory losses in rpgs). I did like the part in Condemned 2 with the bear chase. The first time I saw it, I threw a pipe and tried to shoot it with an air taser before it mauled me, since it wasn’t dying, I knew I had to run .

Amnesia is so tense since you have no method to fight back. I also need to try to find a way to play a korean game called White Day, which is similar to Amnesia for ps2 that came out long ago. I heard the difficulty settings effected the random events, which add to the “unknown” factor of the game.

Not really. Usually just ranges from annoyance to frustration but I’ve never been scared of being overwhelmed.

But yeah, also fear of the unknown has to come with the fear of losing WITH severe consequences. For example, I liked the atmosphere of Dead Island, when out on missions I felt immersed at times with the loneliness and having to watch out for zombies…problem was, the consequences of dying in that game are so freaking lenient, I have absolutely nothing to fear.

Like, Nemesis in RE3 can be pretty nerve wracking but if the consequences of dying in RE3 were to just respawn like a room or a minute or two before your death or something, or just spawning very close to where you were, you’re not gonna fear Nemesis all that much. If he comes out and kills you, meh so what? You load up right before then, and you already know he’s coming. Compare that to the reality of RE3, where what you face for dying is possible backtracking or redoing of puzzles or clearing out rooms all over again and then right back to dealing with the big guy because the only save room either requires more back tracking or is past him? Yeah, then you’ll be waiting for his music cues more.

Fear of the Unknown + The consequences of failing being an actual deterrent for failing. Usually though there isn’t TOO much of a leniency on the latter part, so it’s mostly about the first part. But ZombiU does make things interesting on the consequences of dying where you essentially only have one life. Having to restart your entire game due to dying once? You’ll either run your ass off like Usain Bolt when being chased, or walk about about 2 feet a day.

Makes me pine for the first Steel Battalion. EJECT MOTHERFUCKER!

lost in nightmares was perfect while desperate escape just felt like another mercs map…so I can see RE6 going a similar route with a RE6 gold version with all the DLC on it

I dont mind co-op really since the enemies look more advanced this time around…and besides the word horror is subjective when your 25 years old…lol

Samuel L. Jackson must’ve lost many nights of sleep due to forgetting to eject in that game.

Kinda nice. This system will sure as hell help make speedrunning this a breeze. :badboy:

Most importantly…where are the weapon upgrades at? :frowning:

I don’t think… (sigh) I don’t think they are there anymore. I don’t even know if we can change our load outs between chapters or whatever let alone upgrading guns. Shit they don’t even use licensed weapons anymore it seems. SHOTGUN? WING SHOOTER?

Skills are the new weapon upgrades.

This makes me a sad panda. :frowning:

RE4 and RE5 had a lot of made up guns. The default handgun for RE4 even had an airsoft gun modeled after it. I remember seeing some magazine scan for it.

I always wanted to get a Samurai Edge Airsoft pistol.
