Totally agree with you Sano, look at Karin Kazuki and Rainbow Mika both are supposed to be from Japan!
Just cause a character lives in japan doesn’t mean that they are fully japanese, just as Ken isn’t the traditional full-blooded white American. Karin and Mika are probably half white as well, or at least more likely to use hair products than Ryu.
Put it this way, if they want to make a character look full blooded japanese - they will, case in point Guy, E Honda and Sakura cause you got no arguements from me there. All I’m sayin is that whilst Ryu may bear the nationality Japanese, he has always struck me as stemming from an inter-racial heritage and I’m glad to see that there are some people who agree with me.
Whenever a blonde haired and blue eyed person appears in manga/anime and they feel like revealing their origins they usually point to a region of Japan (the name escapes me at the moment) where people’s hair and eye color are just a bit lighter. In this actual region of Japan, are they blonde haired and blue eyed or have they ever been in real life? Hell no, at least not to the extent of how they might appear in games/manga/anime. Heck, even Sakura with her brown hair is an exaggeration, it would normally be black.
You have to understand that a lot of times when Japan creates characters they try to make them accesible to everybody, put something in there that anyone from anywhere can identify with. The best example I can think of is the current crop of characters with Purple, Green, Blue hair growing out of their head. And obviously the eyes (and the size of the eyes, but that’s another topic). You can look at these characters and from a glance they don’t seem to fit any race, nationality, etc, so you can pick up the character and identify with them easily without being to hung up on nationality, ethnicity, etc. Even with someone like Ryu who the game tells you he’s from Japan from the get go, it’s possible you might forget about all of that and just enjoy the character himself because in real life he sure doesn’t look Japanese. Oh well my 2 cents.
In the end, lots of things are different from our, for lack of a better term “western” ways of thinking. If Marvel and/or DC creates a Japanese character with blonde hair and blue eyes you can chalk that up to an inter-racial relationship. But it doesn’t always work out that way in Japan, or even Hong Kong or Korea when they create characters.
Don’t feel like I’m truly disagreeing really or anything, things in art are up for interpretation/opinion/different perspectives/discussion afterall.
EDIT: If you wish to read up a bit more on this subject, I found this book by Susan Napier (who teaches classes on understanding Anime) to be pretty good. Either From Akira to Mononoke or Akira to Moving Castle will do. She might over-analyze a couple of things here and there which I won’t go into, but overall it’s a great read.

Well Guile and Charlie throw their sonic booms differently. IIRC Charlie’s more skilled of the two, and “A3” Bison beat him down. Guile’s weaker but still manged to eak out a win against SF2 Bison before Akuma killed him (This IS still considered the most logical ending right?)
Sure you perform Remy’s moves similarly, but isn’t that just because ever since SF2 there’s been a “Guile” type player people are used to? I don’t know DeeJay’s story, but don’t care.
I remember reading once that all projectiles are based off different things. Alpha 3 Bison’s fireball being hot to the touch, his “Mega-Psycho Crusher” so hot it’d kill.
Ryu’s hadoukens were more or less a projection of the force from his palms and felt like a real solid punch. You could probably argue that any character who doesn’t have “powers” and who display “ki-blasts” of this sort probably feel like this. God imagine the Raging Storm then; basically a major shockwave pulsing from Geese pounding the ground.
Sonic Booms felt like a “katana slash” because they were in fact real sonic booms. (Wouldn’t a sonic boom tear a person’s arm off?)

How did that happen? The part about Guile beating Bison. Was it because he was pissed of because Charlie died or something?
The whole thing is that nothing can be proven. Remy may use what appears to be a sonic boom and flash kick but they are not named so. Plus how would have Charlie have tought Remy these techniques? Remy would have had to be very young if Charlie died young. Maybe Guile tought Remy the techniques of his dead father? After all didn’t Capcom say they (Remy and Guile) were some how related but Gulie is definently not the father of an emo child.

Well yeah, I’d say Guile was pretty pissed. It’s in the cannon (sort of) IIRC there wasn’t a confirmed ending but this one was considered the most logical. It’s only possible because Bison lost a good deal of his power in A3.
Otherwise Bison would’ve done away with him Charlie-like.
Afterwards Akuma killed him.
Anyway the shit between Charlie and Rose is stupid.
Rose was “possessed” by Bison shortly after he lost his body, after which she seriously fucked up Guy.
Rose is basically an incarnation of Bison’s “good half,” the half he removed to gain more power IIRC. She was the one who beat Bison in A2 right? He was still basically “Shin” Bison. Before Chun was considered so, Rose was the “original” strongest woman in the world, but was still a piece of Bison.

I agree with you. But just to point out that before the current boom of Anime in America in the last decade, they’ve long been shipping off Anime to various parts of the world (most of the people in Latino countries have seen all of Dragon Ball Z uncut waaaay before America has) and you should see some of the depictions of Blacks in comics, cartoons and other things in other countries around the world. Things are better in America, but I don’t think we are… ‘there’ yet with token Black guy dying in every movie (and I am shocked that this BS still happens in Hollywood movies today) and fools like Eddie Murphy making shows like the PJs disgracing everybody and playing a JACKASS in the movie Shrek. Someone tie this man to a chair and make him watch Bamboozled, please!
So I think Japan and the entire world has a loooong way to go. I can only pray that they start exporting Boondocks all over the globe and people start educating themselves.
