Remix Honda Thread

Agreed, great stuff making top 8 man!

Really well played, You even to Afrolegend’s Deejay down took pixels on a few occasions, some of those rounds could have went either way. Great stuff!

Agreed.

Insanely good play.

LOL some of you guys have some funny ideas of How to use Honda!

Congrats, Thelo, glad to see a Honda in top 8.

Thelo is too good,

he sent Valle’s ryu to losers!

I missed all the Honda action. I signed up for IGN premium or whatever just so I can get my hands on that HDR goodness.

Congrats Thelo for bringing the Fatman into the top 8!

You can still watch the recordings of the stream on ustream.

Thelo got robbed, honestly. If he had forced a blind select, Afro would’ve most likely picked Boxer and not DJ. Instead, because Thelo is too honest for his own good, he picked Honda allowing Afro to counter-pick him for free. Thelo still did amazingly well, but that kind of bugged me.

Megaman, how far did you get? The brackets on evo’s website weren’t updated very well…

Afro mains DJ and Thelo only played Honda for the entire tournament.

Ofc he was gonna pick DJ.

Blind select or not.

I know who Afro mains Shari, but it’s always worth it to go for Blind Select because you never know. Maybe Afro didn’t know who Thelo was, or if he did, maybe he thought Thelo would pick a different character, etc. Would haves, could haves, should haves… oh well.

Still, Thelo kept it insanely close, and major props to him.

Afro legends mains DJ, he only picks boxer when he expects a tought match for dj. Plus Thelo only uses honda. You cant really say he counter picked him since DJ is his main, just bad luck for Thelo having to play Afro. Great performance by Thelo though, definitely a rough match for honda.

I know I told you here, but good shit Thelo! I’m glad we had one Honda in the Top 8, and your matches with Afro were hella close! Next year there’s going to be two.

It was great meeting you, and kicking it with you and Sirlin this weekend. See you online!

On a side note, I have played Afro a lot online recently, and I think it was actually better for Thelo that he picked Dee Jay. I have an easier time with Afro’s Dee Jay than I do his Rog.

I lost in winners finals and losers finals of my pool. I hit Pete Talley’s Guile in winners finals, and Mike Creque switched from Cammy to Ryu in losers finals. I lost the the Ryu match in the 4th round of the 3rd game.

Next year, I’m going to counter pick too. Ryu can say hello to my Boxer.

I fucking HATE HAAAAAAAAAAAAATE honda

but

good shit thelo on holding it down for the online players at Evo and busting into the top 8

Good Job to all the E.Honda players.

Thelo did damn good. Don’t cheapen his performance, or try to minimize how well Afrolegends played, by saying Thelo was robbed by counterpicking.

While I’m thankful for any live stream, the quality of ustream is horrid. The frameskipping made me feel nauseated.

Where exactly did I say Afro or Thelo didn’t do well? Oh, wait, I didn’t! Since I regularly play with Thelo, I was rooting for him to take the whole thing.

Just about everyone else in top 8 went with Blind Select, and I’m wondering what could’ve been if Thelo had as well. Afro played his DJ to perfection and still almost lost to Thelo. I’m not cheapening anyone’s performance, but DJ is a counter pick to Honda. Afro plays both DJ and Boxer, and I had yet to see him pull his DJ out against anyone else; then again, viewing it from home, we didn’t get to see all his matches, so he might have been switching back and forth. But from a home viewer’s point of view, it looked like a counter pick - since I heard from Megaman who was there, now I know that was not the case, case closed.

Edit: Megaman, maybe Vega would be a better counter-pick to Ryu?

You didn’t directly say that either didn’t do well, and I never claimed you did. I said that by making claims like “Thelo got robbed by counterpicking,” you’re cheapening what did happen there. Don’t do that.

Vega vs Ryu is a fairly equal matchup.

If you’re gonna go with a counterpick go for the 7-3 and 8-2 ones.

Wow guys, thanks for the support! I really appreciate it!

On not using blind select vs Afrolegends… that was actually a very conscious decision on my part. I knew Afrolegends played Balrog and Deejay, and I’m a lot more comfortable with the Deejay matchup than I am with the Balrog matchup, even though on paper Deejay is better than Balrog against Honda. Balrog doing fullscreen standing jabs when high on life is really scary and safe against Honda and I’m never really sure how to counter it, but I know very well how to fight Deejay (mostly reaction buttslams).

So to make him choose Deejay, I explicitly chose Honda very fast, without blind select. :shy:
