I don’t think anyone plays FGs on 360 controllers, so its never been an issue. Most pad players i’ve seen use a PS2 pad with a converter when they play on 360.
Props to evo for finally enforcing this rule. I went to Final Round last year, and home button presses caused a lot of problems in the Tekken 6 tourney. And they had a desync station, but people rarely used it.
Your retard is showing.
I don’t think a lot of people realize Sony is a sponsor. So it’s not as simple as buying a shit ton of 360’s. Which would be a waste of money anyways since every game in the line up can be played on the existing units they have. Why spend money when you don’t need to?
And, the most importantly. They wouldn’t ban shit w/o just reason and extensive testing.
I use the good old Radioshack adaptor. the R2/L2 on the DS3 are too easy to press by accident when they’re mapped to something. Honestly as for the feel, either one depends on the level of use they have. Brand new DS3 or DS2 are going to be stiff and precise. People use DS2 that are old and have been used up by little Johnny playing Ratchet or the pass around whore controller, of course it feels like shit, it’d be the same with a beaten DS3/SA as well.
As long as an OEM Sony pad is usuble in some form, all should be well. Grab new Dualshock 2’s and break them in to where you want them. If I were going to Evo that’s what I would do.
Yeah, for me, the d-pads feel different. Also, the “wings” on the back of the DS2’s behind the rear shoulder buttons give my hands less space, so I can’t grip the controller comfortably like I could a DS3, which doesn’t have those at all.
Sucks for us PS3 pad players, but it’s for the best. At least it’ll ensure that tournament runs as smoothly as possible.
Wiz, I don’t quite understand. Are you saying that the DS3 HAS to have a battery in order to sync to a PS3?
You have to manually un-sync PS3 pads even if they have no battery. When you wake up a controller, it remains synced to the original console for a brief time even if it has no battery.
you can de-sync it by pressing the reset button on the ds3 but… yeah relying on people to do that would be just as useful as relying on people to de-sync their controller on a de-sync station
Ahh, I see now. I didn’t know that before now, probably because I always press nothing until the lights stop flashing. It was definitely a good call then.
Another question: if someone was somehow able to convert a PS3 controller into a true wired controller, would it still be banned?
yeah… i may be able to do it but i don’t want to scarifice my $50 controller to reverse engineer it. You have to remove the blue tooth chip. if someone doesnt mind sending me a semi broken controller I could probably figure it out in about a week or so. I doubt wiz will buy the fact it’s a bluetoothless DS3 and he’d still have to figure a way to enforce it that’s realistic. But yeah it can be done.
Given that wiring a controller to be able to send and :f: at the same time is okay (which is what saying “yes” to hitboxes means), is it then okay to program a (standard, joystick based) controller such that walking forwards always sends :f: for the purpose of walk-forwards charge moves? If not, what makes this more acceptable when accomplished in hardware versus in software?
