"Remember what we used to say? JACKPOT!" The Vergil Team Building Thread

wesker with vergil assist also has haggar assist style mixups in the corner

gun shot low > call vergil > jump back H, S

beats every tech direction incl. no tech, can’t be thrown etc, combos back into wesker c.M > s.H > qcf M > dash back c.M, c.H, s.S > air magic series > wesker hyper, DHC into spiral swords etc

if they block, they get stuck in rapid slash and can be command grabbed or trip guarded coming out of it

if they advance guard the first hit, sometimes they get caught in the air above wesker. this part is just trolling but you can dash back in and do tiger uppercut L, and if they don’t mash anything on the way down, command grab them. the recovery on tiger uppercut L is pretty perfect on this, they’re either gonna mash something or land and block, rarely do people wait til they land if they wanna press buttons

Im having some problems replicating that, i can do it all smooth till the 1st spiral swords i cant seem to get the charged roundtrip on time after i do the lunar phase, i start charging at the 236L btw, and when i release it its waaay late and i cant connect the cH xx 236L : \ Does any1 done it or has a tip when to charge and when to release?

A few things I have not played this game yet. However I did play alot of mvc2 and alot of mvc3 in mvc3 I played storm, dorm, sent however in this game I am thinking I am 100% dropping sent I may drop storm as well but I have been really thinking about storm, dorm, vergil. However seeing several videos I am thinking that I need a assit otg of some sort. outside of wesker who? If I had to use Dorm/vergil i am wondering who would fill that last slot.

Your right Vergil/Wesker/Mags is the ideal. Wesker assist has very little benefit to Magneto as he still is a 2 touch character even with Wesker assist and if your near the corner you can do almost everything through execution that Wesker would let you do.

Wesker with Beam assist is much scarier than Mags with Wesker assist.

Currently running Vergil/Wesker/Akuma.

Nuff said.

I’ve been goofing around with morrigan/vergil/doom and having a lot of fun. i like constructing teams without beam assists and i love how hidden missiles gives morrigan+vergil options to basically prevent people from doing anything but blocking. i’m having some trouble keeping the meter high for when Vergil gets in though.

when ChrisG does the morrigan/doom he does the double morrigan super the moment he gets somebody on the ground instead of OTG, and I’ve been doing her shockwave into spiral swords to bring in Vergil for some damage. That gives you Vergil/Morrigan which is great for the meter assist but I’m trying to find a better way to keep Morrigan in the front longer…I guess its really matchup dependent, I’d start with Morrigan and if I like how the zoning is going and try to bait out teleports or whatever that I can air throw and then move into Vergil?

With that aside, is there good lock down for Vergil with missiles and his movement? It looks like if I’m doing missiles I can do all sorts of cross under shenanigans when people are jumping since its looks like Vergil really excels there. I’m trying to do all the round trip stuff I see on here but I’m playing on pad and thats not very forgiving on a ps3 controller.

Do you guys think that Vergil’s rapid slash is effective for zoning teams?

I have a team with MODOK/Vergil/Strider.

Strider is used for Anti-Airing, converting into combos after hard knockdown.

Vergil’s Rapid Slash push them into corner, or push them away for keepaway purposes.

Do you think this could work?

It could. I usually try to find a way to DT into Vergil and the charge up round trip so I can safely get Strange back in with DT’d rapid slash assist. It creates a huge hit box that you can always follow up with his 8 point durable M mystic sword so you basically get a mystic sword that always safely pushes people back to the full end of the screen. The DT’d rapid slash assist is gdlk because the hit box is just tremendous.

You can still get enough mileage if you don’t wanna do as much work as that to get the DT’d rapid slash. As long as you can find a projectile with Modok that can cover the vulnerable hit box of rapid slash (Vergil is completely vulnerable in the front and can only hit with the projectiles that release behind him) then you’re good to go. I use M mystic sword to solid effectiveness with Strange but I’m sure there’s something that probably works with Modok also.

I see, I just got to make sure I don’t blindly call Vergil without protecting him with a projectile. I also didn’t realize how good DT rapid slash is, I am definitely going to abuse that crap now. The other reason why I have Vergil in Second, is basically because I need his S tier DHC abilties to keep MODOK safe. I usually need his swords because I know could be punished for using MODOK’s supers. I also use MODOK’s beam for Vergil’s left and right mixups.

whats so great about vergil’s assists?

Just rapid slash. It’s fast, easy to combo off of, doesn’t scale too badly, and if you jump, call Vergil, teleport past them (so you’re in the air and not blocking their way) even if they manage to block, they just get pushed into the corner. Vergil also hits extremely high so if you do something like Wesker gunshot > call Vergil > backwards jump > j.H j.S (which hits every tech direction incl. no tech from every character in the game and beats grabs, mashes, everything but invincible supers and stuff like meteor smash) and you connect, Vergil pops them up with one hit (very little scaling) and you can easy combo off of that back into the same thing. If they block, even if they advancing guard, Vergil holds them there for such a long time that you can easily dash back up and go for a command grab (or whatever neutral stuff you wanna do, you have monstrous advantage.)

So you think that it is great for any teleporter or is it just wesker?

Those were just Wesker examples that can be applied to any character with decent overhead mixups, strong corner pressure (or combos), and (preferably) some sort of command grab or way to combo off of a grab, although that’s not really important. Spencer, Ammy, Magneto all come to mind.

I mean, basically anywhere you can fit an Akuma tatsu in (minus projectile nullification) you can fit in Vergil rapid slash, with the added corner carry bonus

EDIT: when I say overhead mixups, I meant crossup mixups that occur over the opponent’s head.

EDIT 2: forgot to mention, dormammu with Vergil is kinda ridiculous. You can do masta CJ style air hit + call assist -> teleport mixups (he does this with magneto to ridiculous effect) that you wouldn’t think you’d be able to do, but can because the last couple hits of rapid slash hit so damn high. And if they block it, they just get carried all the way across the screen, which is good if you wanna shift into a more zoning-based style of dorm. Winrich uses this team.

So how well do you say vergil and dante work together?

Currently I’m running Vergil-y/Iron Man-b/Taskmaster-a

Should I switch Iron man and vergil or should I keep it the same?

Also, I’ve been thinking about switching tasky out for a better anchor. Any thoughts?

It’s good for air dash characters like Viper and Magneto also. Gives them hurpa durp ambiguous left/right mix ups that lead to combos also. Just call Vergil then air dash behind them right before the assist hits them. It counts as a cross up then you dash up get your combo off your ambiguity.

Was messing around with doom and Magneto… jesus vergil fits in the 2 slot of that team well
Magneto(a) and Doom (b) cover alot of Vergils holes… and present oppertunities to use Crown of Swords as well (wow Crown of swords is dumb…)

if my team is wolverine vergil spencer what order should it be in?

Spencer/Wolverine/Vergil is the only solid way you can order that team that keeps an assist and general DHC synergy down the line. Although Wolverine will struggle with only Vergil as assist being a character that is only relevant at close ranges.

I’ve been playing Trish(B)/ Vergil(A)/ Akuma(B) and have a decent amount of success with it. Alternate between going in and keeping away with Trish to build meter. Akuma assist to maintain pressure and get Round Trips out.
But I feel like Akuma gets wrecked as an anchor in some matches. I’m debating on switching to Doom(B/C), Wesker(B), or Dante(A/B). Any suggestions?
