Lang mentioned something about being surprised when a hit lands. Something I’ve been watching is the UltraChen TV series “First Attack.” Specifically, the episode about Hit Confirming (YouTube link) helps less about executing combos and more about methodology for using them. The line that stuck with me specifically is “Expect the hit, react to the block.” Obviously this isn’t the complete story; You need to learn to stop following through with a combo if you see the opponent blocking, but this concept will help you get your damage out.
As for the topic of Pandora, I’m by no means an expert. That being said, it seems to be as a last-ditch combo extender. Like using a wall bounce into Pandora, then directly into a super for a bit of extra damage (approximately 10-15%, I think?). I haven’t really goofed around with it, to be honest, as it seems like an unnecessary gamble nine times out of ten.
Also, Lang mentioned picking up Heihachi. I think he’d be a great anchor character; Strong mixup, good damage, but has a harder time getting in with a less than impressive neutral game. Characters with good footsies or zoning techniques seem to be a good point character for him. As such, Guile may be a good teammate, especially since Nick’s already using him and Guile can fit both of these roles. Open your opponent up with some good footsies, get the tag via cross rush or switch cancel, then go for damage. Some meter building gems on Guile with some damage gems on Heihachi would compliment their roles and positions where Guile can essentially build meter for Heihachi. Unfortunately I don’t know enough about Heihachi’s combos to point out the most optimal combos for meter, but hopefully some of this is useful on a theory level.
The only way I see Pandora being viable is with the Pandora gem that gives you an extra 30% damage on top of the default 15% damage buff. But I’ve found no videos showing Pandora being used effectively in combos.
“Expect the hit, react to the block.”
Thats Awesome advice! Thanks man I haven’s seen that hit confirming episode! Awesome! And it looks like its going to be Guile/Heihachi from here on out so hopefully we can find the synergy there.
To Morningstar: is that gem out already? Or is it future DLC?
The gem is already out, it´s in the list of boost gems (red damage boost gems). It´s the last one in the line if I recall correctly.
Gotcha! Thanks dude!
So I have good news and bad news for you gents. Good news is that I found a pretty comprehensive guide for Heihachi by scarsofzsasz (YouTube link) that Lang my find helpful.
The bad news is that according to that guide, I was wrong about the need for Guile to meter gems for Heihachi. Maybe one meter gem would be nice to build up to Heihachi’s super, but more defensive gems on Guile might be more useful in the long run, especially due to him being on point. Heihachi can still use damage and speed gems to bolster his offense.
Good Heihachi video! Thanks man! The defensive gems seem to help my terrible blocking the most haha, probably my best bet
