Regency Fun Center (RFC) Thread

I’m goin homie. I should be there around 6:00p.

GG’s all the people are rfc today.

Anybody going today for some Tekken and/or Marvel? I’ll be there around 2-7! okie dokie

Hmm, jpchato, if you were the asian guy in cargo shorts playing mvc2, gg. I think you perfected that one guy. Well, gg’s. BTW 2nd player on the big machine sucks.

naw that was me. yeh i perfected him. i think he was fairly new to using top tiers or something cause his execution was off.

i also was using nina/julia in T5.

Ahh, that’s who you are. Yeah, he was a noob, but even noobs are hard to get perfects on.

does anyone run tournies at rfc anymore?

I’m going to be in charge of tournaments since its been hectic here, so anyways, phat_toi, I’m going to be in charge of planning the tournaments, so please if you can PM me regarding this matter. I’m responsible for everything tournament related so, any input or help is wonderful.

What I want to do is basically run bi-weekly tournaments here at the fun center, alternating between initial D and our fighters. This is very last minute since My schedule is very hectic so I havent had my own free time to actually organize everything. so again, help on anything would be great from you players out there.

The fighters we want in the tournaments are basically

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (x2 or x3 cabs)
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (x2 cabs)
Guilty Gear XX (1x cab)
Capcom vs SNK 2 (x1 cab)
Tekken 5 (x2 cab)

we are planning to change some things with our current “wall of fighters” in the upcoming week, our GGXX is in a much better monitor from before, but yea I’m going see if I can fix a few problems, along with the help of our tech. and I’m also aware with some of the problems already plaguing some of our cabs, that is already in the process of being taken cared of, since some of the parts and monitors are on back-order from where we order them from. either that or shipping just takes a little while. any other little things you guys noticed, just post and I’ll see what I can do about them.

The format would be same double elimination, along with the same rules as before, as for tekken 5 however, Since it has the card system, I want it so the players would only get the choice of 2 characters/cards. a little variety in it, same double elimination format.

The entry fee, I want it to be either 5 bucks or 10 bucks, depending on who would show up and such. I would say 10 since the pot would be a lot bigger than 5 bucks, but some players would feel that would be a little too much, so possibly alternate depending on that week and what YOU GUYS want. so posting about it would determine that that week’s entry fee, or we can just do a set one. like possibly one week is 5, next tournament would be 10, then 5 then 10. along with pizza sub-prizes and such.

Basically, I want to start the tournaments the week after the 19th, so the 26th basically. Would you guys think that is a little to sudden? or just enough time? since our first tournament will be for initial D planned on the 19th already, and then alternating from there on.

so there you go, I would like this to work out and Im willing to do everything in my power to help / to make this a success. suggestions are welcomed.

hey, not too shabby. this might be perfect timing for RFC since the arcade seemed to be a little dull lately. i’ll come out to support the scene.

Have phun. Im done with RFC till i get some matters straigten out

:woot:

Tourney ideas sound great.

I only have only one suggestion- Turn on Autoguard on the T5 machines. Please.

im down for the tourny, sounds fun

AutoGuard on?

I can arrange that, anyone else want it on? Basically Im going to show this thread / forward it to the person that would allow me to change it. Since it has to go through the “ok” basically I have to report any changes we do or want to do before we do it, So that everyone can be on the same page on whats going on.

we need #reload <3~

that x1 cab for cvs2 adds at least 1/2 hours onto the length of the whole tournament. I remember the last RFC tourney i went to the cvs2 tourney ran 3+ hours more than the other two tourneys. If you somehow got another cvs2 cabinet there, the tourneys would run way faster, esp considering cvs2 always takes the longest. I know you guys at one point had cvs1 there, maybe that could be upgraded or something? thank you

edit: yeah auto gaurd should be on for any tekken

yes ditto. another cvs2 machine would be VERY nice and would save a CONSIDERABLE amount of time for tournies. even though i don’t play #r, the GGXX machine should be upgraded to #r.

i think the entry fee for the first tournament should be $5.

ok autoguard is on our tekken’s since the morning, as for another CvS2, I’ll talk to the tech tomorrow and see how much they go for and see what happens, along with #reload, hell I want the #reload >_> but yea, I’ll se what happens.

I’m also gonna put my vote towards #R. I’m pretty sure having #R at RFC will drag in GG fans from around the county/ies.

I know of Family Fun Arcade (FFA) (Granada Hills) GGXX regulars that would like #R – over there preferably, but wherever. Management at FFA has expressed distaste for any further Guilty Gear titles due to poor returns on Guilty Gear Isuka. That’s not a surprise, but not a fair comparison, either – for the Capcom fans, imagine if management decided on a second sf3 or cvs2 cab based on the market performance of Capcom Fighting Evolution/Jam. For better or for worse, it’s not an even comparison.

A group of the (former)GGXX regulars at Camelot Golfland (Anaheim) play #R at house gatherings, (not?)waiting for #R arcade. They occasionally go back to the arcade for XX, but prefer not to, since the gameplay mechanics are so different. If they play, they tend to complain about how much their characters are toned down or handicapped in XX and how much better and more balanced #R is. Due to chaining, combos, and strings, the various minor differences (like one extra frame here or there) between XX and #R multiply out to large fractions of a second, or in some cases, whether an action is possible at all (which I guess counts as infinite time lag?).

As for Guilty Gear Isuka? Ugh. No Isuka, please. GG was started and refined as one-on-one battle, not a four-way battle. Isuka can only be taken as seriously as four-way football. To wit, not at all. GGXX#Reload continues the two-player tradition of GGXX and GGX; Isuka is a ridiculous four-player tangle. Some may disagree, but the prevailing conventional wisdom amongst GG players is that #R is better suited to sensible play than GGI.

I (used to) drive from Torrance to Granada Hills, and Anaheim (40min+), for GGXX action, so I can see people toughing out L.A./L.B. traffic for #R. Not to mention it’d probably be the only #R machine in the basin with US-style sticks (coughcoughpoint finger northeastcough*).

I could probably go on about this, too.

P.S. if GGXX#R is sought, then please be sure to get the properly debugged “version B” and not the buggy “version A”.

Anyone showing today for T5 or 3S?

I’ll be there around 7.
