Red Octane stick on sale: $20

The Easiest parts to put into this case would be a Sanwa JLW-UM-8 joystick and Happ buttons. Anything else would require some modification to the case in some way in order to get the parts to fit in. There might be a Seimitsu stick that would bottom mount in the case but I don’t know which model it would be. It definently isn’t a LS-32.

What if I wanted an 8-way gate on the Sanwa JLW? I’m not familiar with how Sanwa sticks work other than the one in my HRAP, and I just know I’d prefer an 8-way gate over the 4-way. Is there any easy way to fix this? Thanks again. And where could I order one of these? I just checked Himura Amusements, and they only have other models.

thanks for the info and pic, spiffy shoes!

Hmmm…so you’re saying it’d actually be easier to get a sanwa in one of these things? That’s really cool actually cuz I’ve been wanting to learn to use Sanwa sticks any ways. This should be interesting.

The sanwas come with 8-way gates. I think you are thinking of an octagonal restrictor. Those only come on the JLF-TP-8Y models. If you want an octagonal restrictor you will have to get a JLF and top mount it.

Himuragames does carry the JLW-UM-8 joystick he just doesn’t list it on his website. You will have to send him an email and ask for it. Also I believe Iseelba was selling them. I’d wait till Iseelba confirms that they do fit fine in the Red Octane case before I ordered any though.

From what I heard (and from what SpiffyShoes said), I guess I’d like the Sanwa stick and Happ buttons. I had read a comparison of the two (because I was interested to see the difference), and I decided that I’d probably want a Sanwa stick (even though I didn’t know if it fit the RedOctane box) and Happ buttons for their rigidity.

Ahh, OK. So this restrictor will make it feel like a regular Happs stick in terms of movement area, instead of being a “square”? Thanks.

stuupid question, but what is the sanwa equivalent of a p360, and would that fit on this case?

Sanwa has an optical joystick called the Flash1 but as it is no longer manufactured will cost you a whole lot if you’re lucky enough to even find one for sale.

thanks man, was looking around for info on them

I must have alot of nerve to ask this but, I was thinking of ordering one of these so I could make myself a good Seimitsu stick with Sanwa buttons to use for shooters and the such, but I don’t have any of the tools or know-how to widen the holes or do the woodwork needed to mount a Seimitsu stick. Is anyone willing to order an extra and make these modifications? Again I’m new to this scene so I don’t have any idea how much work is involved in doing this, but I’m willing to pay alittle extra. Please PM me if your interested in helping out. Also I’m not in any rush, I have to wait till payday anyway. =p

I also received mine in the mail.

I was able to put in a crown (super clone) into the box but it wasn’t easy. I had to recess the wood on both ends of the box, the bottom lid and the wood where the joystick is mounted. I also had to hot glue the base of the joystick since the wood had to be routed so thin that screws were no good. Joystick is a little high but still feels good. Feels like the height of a p360. I’ll take some pictures when I’m done with it. Top mouting a sanwa would probably be a better solution but I think this will also turn out good. Certainly not an easy mod for a beginner.

so those sanwa JLW-UM-8 would be ideal for this?
hey, spiffyshoes, what sanwa stick did you put in yours?? btw, how would you top mount a stick? i’m not even sure how that is generally done, i’ve only always bottom mounted.

looking forward to those pics, albert_c! maybe show the pcb and stuff too man. btw, how much shorter is this stick compared to a mas stick?

If I ever get mine, I can confirm if the JLW’s I have with the longer shafts work. I think I ordered too many sticks :frowning:

EDIT: According to DHL, my order might get to me today. Does 67 lbs for 5 sticks sound right?

67lbs seems a little heavy for 5 sticks. The sticks are around 9lbs each. I wonder why yours got shipped through DHL and mine were shipped through USPS. Probably because you ordered 5. I used to order them in quantaties of 4 at a time and they would always shipp DHL. And now that I think about it any time I’ve ordered 3 or less they have shipped through USPS.

Junker I put a JLF-TP-8Y joystick in one of my cases and a Seimitsu LS-32 in the other one both of which had to be top mounted. The JLW-UM-8 would reqire the least amount of work to install into these cases. With a ball top the JLW will feel a tad short when bottom mounted but it will be playable. If you get a Bat Top though it will feel like it is at the perfect height.

I bought 3 and it was a big ass heavy box.

Spiffy, will a bottom mounted JLF with bat top work? My RO are still sitting at the DHL facility since Sunday. I hope it’s not damage. I’m tempted to stop by and pick it up myself. It’s only a couple of miles from home.

It depends on what your deffinition of work is. The JLF can be bottom mounted in the RO stick with a bat top and physically work. But will it be comfortable? Nope.

So Spiffy, is the JLW-UM-8 bat top the best stick for this case if I am trying to do the least amount of work?

Lol at that picture.

Spiffy, can you do me a favor, can you tell me the thickness of the wood where the stick is mounted? Is it thicker than 7/16"?

DHL has still not dropped off my package :lame:
