Recurring personality traits and move types in characters you choose to play

Because most folks here already have an idea about what kind of character they like.

I like really shitty characters in my 2d games and top tier in 3d. Don’t ask me why I will fucking curse you.

my shindan: MightyMar plays disciplined characters who have stupid assists and inspire rage.

Alpha 3: Karin, Sakura, Cammy, Chun-li, Rolento, Cody
SFxT: Asuka, Rolento
Tekken: Jun, Asuka, Wang, Paul,
AE: Ibuki, Fei-long

Apparently I like characters that are mostly rushdown that have great tools to get in close or have great tools for punishing (whiff or block). I guess that’s why I like Rekka characters so much, aside from how cool lunging punches look. I also seem to like characters that are rushdown, but also have elements of defense in them as well. Another thing I see is that these rushdown characters also have the capability of playing a good footsie game as well which is another thing I love.

So true. I never realized that for me either. For example, Karin has a high and a low counter, but she has very poor reversal options. Actually, she only has one which is her hopkick and that can be stuffed if I’m trying to reversal a meaty jump-in. It is, however, helpful to get out of crossup situations.

The women tend to have big boobs.

T&A, for 20 years, from the chick in the Turtles fighter on Super N.E.S. to Rachel custom outfits on DOA5U. Screw watching some dumb alpha male’s ass for like a thousand hours lol

Def seem to like Rekkas. Characters with fast light attacks (Not too sure if that holds up for Tekken I have very little tekken frame knowledge.)

Also obvious you like young gals who are kind of innocent or naive. (I count chun in this even though she is older but she is pretty darn infamous for her “YATTA!” win pose that is known EVERYWHERE (not just FGC or even video game fans it is probably the most famous video game win pose ever.)

Here is one I think you might not have realized was even there (which is the whole point of this thread.) Low avoiding hop kicks are VERY common among that list. Karin, Sakura (LK Tatsu if you count it), Chun, Rolento (F+MK doesn’t go anywhere but it is a low avoiding hop kick none the less), Cody, Ibuki, Fei Long, Asuka (in SFxT using f+HK) ALL have hop kicks designed to avoid low attacks.

@lemres how is my comment off topic??? it was a freakin joke.

“SRK front page D3v plays heroic characters who do too much damage but go under the radar.”

Yeah but “What character I like” is different than “recurring traits in characters you pick”

You can say “I like sci-fi action movies with leading men who can crack a joke when it gets crazy” and you know you like the movies; Fifth Element, Pitch Black, and Independence day. Well that is fine. However the point of this thread is to spot recurring traits/moves/ect that appear among those characters you choose. In this analogy you could notice "Hey, all of those movies are from the 90s (Pitch black came out feb 2000 but filmed in 90s). The leading man is seen smoking at least one point in every one of those films. All of the leading men tend to wear their hair extremely short in the film. Aliens appear in all 3 films as well. They are all right handed.

Ect. ect.

I always play the evil ones.

I always seem to end up playing characters that have to work really hard for their wins (low damage output). Not sure how it happens, just does.

They aren’t evil, they are just misunderstood. Bison has such a welcoming smile. Akuma just never really had a mother figure in his life and rebelled against his father figure of Goutetsu, he just needs a hug more than anything.

I agree.

But what I’m saying is that most folks here already know what they’re looking for. For example, a person who choses Rog/Vega in ST, Chun in 3S and Akuma in IV is pretty much doing so because they’re top tier. In the same way someone picking Storm/Sent/Cyke in MvC2 and Chun in 3S is doing so because they prefer turtling or playing defensively.

And he’s trying to point out that there could be less readily apparent similarities among their characters that never occurred to them for the sake of discussion on an internet forum.

Whoa. I didn’t even see that one! It’s true that people who poke me with low attacks heavily annoy me, so I guess I gravitate more towards characters who have options to counter that. Very interesting. I like this thread a lot haha.

Fine then. Somebody tell me what is it I’m missing about these choices.

3S-Chun
MSH-Blackheart
MvC2-Storm/Cable/CapCom
VSav-Talbain
A2-Chun
VF-Sarah or Vaneesa
Skullgirls-Peacock/Parasoul
CvS2-A-Sak/Cammy/Blanka
MvC3-Ammy/Sent/Phoenix
UMvC3-Morrigan/Doom/Dante or Sent
GG-Millia
Divekick-Shoals or S-Kill
DOA5U-Rachel/Momiji

Well for starters, you got LOTS of projectile users in there. An affinity for characters with good supers. Lots of “da ladiez”

You also obviously seem to like characters who force the opponent to block… A LOT. Rather than strictly putting threats on screen and punishing the attempts to avoid them (Like you would with say Guile) you just like putting a lot of stuff on the screen OR putting the opponent in situations where the ONLY choice is to block and block for a long time (Whether it is through strong rushdown blockstrings like CvS2 Blanka, VSav Talbain or with projectile users like Peacock, Storm, Morrigan.)

The one I think you MIGHT have missed is high mobility, especially in the air seems to be a common trait among the 2D fighters you pick with (as often is the case) there being an exception with Peacock who has relatively low air mobility though her “Robo with a shotgun” is really good for trajectory changing.

Def an affinity for top tier as you’ve surmised, but not exclusively so.

I’m sure there is some stuff I haven’t spotted.

My characters always end up either being low mid or high tier. The sad thing is, I usually have hella character loyalty towards those lower ones :frowning:

I play whichever character is in the default cursor position because even before the game begins I’ve already started mashing.
