Recommend some kickass headphones

So I’m sick of my little $20 Sony buds. Problem is, I know next to nothing about headphones in terms of what brands/models are good quality and whatnot.

I was looking at Skullcandy’s Skullcrushers. The extra bass is a big plus for me. But I know some people like Skullcandy, others absolutely hate them. Are they just hating on the trendy shit, or is there a legitimate reason?

Also looked at Sennheiser HD 280’s. These look pretty good as well.

Willing to spend ~$100, but less is better of course.

Edit: Good bass is a must

Grado SR-60/80
beyerdynamic DT 770 if you really want some bass cans

Those grado’s are open air though aren’t they? That won’t work with me. I’m planning on using these during commutes and in school.

Probably should have mentioned that .

Only other closed headphone I know of in that price range worth a damn is the Sony MDR-V6. I’d probably still go with the HD 280s over those tho.

$65+shipping or so online.

I haven’t read much about them, but AKG has a product in the price range as well. AKG K 81 DJ.

I am sure there is some reviews out there.

bass in a headphone? grado. that’s all there is to it for that price. get the iGrado or whatever maybe

Skullcandies suck ass.

Sennheiser’s are pretty reliable.

Check out: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=22 for more headphone info.

I’d say if it’s for commuting a pair of in-ears would be best. Far less bulk.

Some good, inexpensive options are the Panasonic RP-HJE50s and Creative EP-630s.

i was pretty shocked

put the older zune premium head phones are my fav
i havent tried the newer ones

They have the old school cord layout
not that retarded stupid ass way where it goes behind your neck
D:<

Alright, I just ordered some HD 280’s. Thanks for the help guys.

You made the right choice. Sennheiser is awesome.

Grado is too, but I can never find any for sale locally so that I can demo them.

You can never go wrong with Sennheisers. I have HD 485s and I just love them =)

interesting. i’m getting tired of my $20 earphones too.

What’s the source? i.e. what’s providing the music signal

I"m an audio noob. I’ve been looking for new headphones. I heard that bose is overprice and the sound quality is not as good when compare to other brands. but I haven’t sample any headphones except for the bose at ipod store. so I need some recommendation if you please.

I really like this bose one, but won’t get because of the reason listed above. I thought the sound quality is great.

is there another one that like this in terms of sound, noise cancel, and especially comfort for ipod usage?

I have the shure ec2 or something and I do’nt think they are that good, they’re very uncomfortable, and the sound system is ok.

my budget is at most $150. so please help out if you know anything like that bose one.

SkullCandy Proletariats. Pretty badass for $100. Sennheisers are better though.

i just brought one.

I dunno, most people I’ve talked so say Skullcandy is just trendy without real sound quality. But I have to admit, they’re pretty baddass looking.

Especially the Full Metal Jacket in-ear phones.

Great choice. Best sealed cans in that price range.

Which model? Just curious =P

Stay the hell away from BOSE and Skullcandy. They’re targeted towards ‘noobs’ that hace never listened to a good pair of headphones.
I too, knew next to nothing about headphones until I did some research at places like www.head-fi.org and http://headphonereviews.org/ and it opened a whole new world for me.

In Shoryuken terms, its like comparing a crap-ass joystick to a Hori Real Arcade Pro w/ proper parts. You made a good descision with HD280s
