Recommend me a drawing tablet

I wanna give a drawing tablet to my gf as a christmas gift but I know very little about them. Can someone recommend me a good drawing tablet? She’s not a professional artist or anything so I don’t want something too hardcore with insane features and stuff. On the other hand, she really likes to draw and passes a good amount of time with photoshop so I want a quality tablet.

Simply put, recommend me a tablet that works and works well. I don’t think price would be too much of an issue.

I’m pretty sure an Intuos3 from Wacom is the way to go. The size depends on preference but I got a 9x12 and thought it was too big and then went and got a 6x8 which was perfect for me. I don’t suggest buying it from the manufacturer since you can save about 100+ if you go the ebay route.

I know that’s what professionals use and just about everyone else who draws digitally.

Wow thanks man. I looked into it after reading ur post. Sounds like a good product.

intous 3 6x8 by wacom is what i use and HIGHLY recommend. There is also a 9X12 but it’s way more than you will probably need.

The 9x12 felt like a table to me.

I use a Intous3 6x11, for my Widescreen monitors. Its preference and budget, but any Intous3 is fine.

9x12 is only for 3D CAD professionals, you need that, imo.

If it works on your computer, there’s an old wacom tablet that works really well.

It’s called the UD-Digitizer or something along those lines. It’s pretty dang old, but it works outstandingly well.

as someone who owns an Intuos3, I think it is a very nice piece of equipment
you might want to think about portability when deciding which size to get though.
I got myself a nice A4 sized one but it’s kinda cumbersome to lug around in a backpack. I think the A5 size one is about right.

I got the a5 and it works great when you get used to moving the canvas around.

The Intuos is as good as it gets but I think a more entry-level tablet would also suffice. Unless you got the $$$, I suggest the cheaper, medium sized Wacom Bamboo.

You’ll get brownie points regardless…

i got a wacom intuos 2…its awesome!!! the great thing about wacom is the patented technology for the battery-less pen

After seeing all the approval about intuos3 I think I’m going to get the 6x8 for her. I know a simpler one would suffice, but picking anything else now I’d feel kinda cheap:rofl: Plus I know there’ll be little room to complain if I give her the intuos3.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions you guys!

biiig dish of brownies

I’d go for an intuos. I used it for about 3 years doing storyboards; it always served me well. It takes some getting used to, but once adjusted, it’s all good.

I also say get her an Intuos 3 either 6x8 or 9x12. A few months back I got myself the 9x12 and I’m happy with it. Also try Amazon for some good deals as well as Ebay. Good luck.

Ha maybe. She doesn’t want me to buy her anything expensive because she is very cautious with money actually. Oh well. So yeah I found a place that sells the 6x8 for a lil less that 300. prolly go for that.

^^Too expensive. Got mine for 200+ but I guess you’re stretched for time right now, eh?

Not particularly. She’ll understand cuz I have to ship the item anyway which would take awhile (we’re in different states). Just the prices I’m finding are around the high 200s. Maybe I’m not looking hard enough =(

edit: Just found 1 for around $250 @ digital graphics resources. Read some reviews tho and I’m not sure if DGR is reliable. =/

The Wacom Intuos 2 is really good(I have one), which is probably cheaper. But not bad in any way.

My sister also has a Wacom Bamboo, which is also quite good.

You can also try getting her a Bamboo which are pretty cheap and don’t seem too bad. I’ve seen a few people use them here and there. It all just depends on how much time she will spend using the thing.
