RE: TTT2 needing revamp (article taken down)

People are surprised the controversial article was taken down? Expecting a healthy debate on the subject was a silly notion. Were this said on a stream, you’d have to shut down the chat channel, so the stream monsters don’t rip each other apart.

Also, demanding that every single fighter caters to everyone would make the genre boring as fuck. Please, don’t.

Hey, guess what…MvC3 is a joke in Japan. Know what that means? Yes, that’s right; you’re not Namco’s target audience. You never were. I’m surprised you’re still playing it with that kind of mentality. Whether that is commendable or just a waste of time for you, I’m not sure. However, expecting Tekken to be as accessible or “hype” as Marvel is simply unrealistic.

People saying a fighting game is too hard for beginners are the fucking cancer that is killing fighting games. You either take the time and learn the game, no matter how much your ADHD limits your learning, or you just don’t play and stick with Marvel 3. It’s so sad (no it isn’t), but not all fighting games are for everyone, and that’s the way it should be. Baby’s 1st FG’s and real games should be different.

You know what’s also boring as fuck? Going to tournaments with less than 16 people entering.I know most of the people here are new to Tekken and don’t know bad the competitive scene is, but there’s actually a legit reason why TTT2 arcade was released in NA almost a full year after Japan and Korea.

Man up and build/help your local scene then.

Won’t work if nobody wants to actually play the game

How many fucking people do you need in your tournament? Is it about quantity over quality? Because it shouldn’t. Are you a top player even? Tell me, realistically if every top american Tekken player entered one tournament, of which there are more than 16 people, how far would you get? Do you have any realistical chance of winning the tournament? If answered no to all, what the fuck does it matter if there’s “only” 16 players if all of the players are good, no matter are they good in the general scale or good just on your level? Let me tell you a little something; even if Marvel 3, which you are so obviously wanting to draw parallers to, gets 100 or 1000 or 10000 or whatever participants in a tournament and Tekken Tag 2 only gets 16, it doesn’t make Marvel 3 necessarily a better game, not even taking in the fact this game was released just 3 weeks ago. Fighting games are a not a fucking popularity contest, or at least they shouldn’t be. I’m sorry if you’re too much of an sheep to let the number of people entering a tournament dictacte your taste in fighting games, but since lately that’s been the general rule of the land, I’m not too surprised.

Man you either shut up and play the game or go back to playing a game you like.

The entitlement generation has screwed the future of gaming royally by demanding highly marketable mass appeal spoon fed experiences. When yall gonna just leave a good thing alone?

This thread reminds me of all the people who tell me that KOFxiii is the most skillful game, while ignoring it and and going to play UMvC3.

The number of entrants is an important factor you are downplaying. Do you think Daigo & other top international players would bother traveling to NA if only a hand full of people bothered to show up? People go to EVO because of the huge crowd and money that goes with it, you can’t downplay that by calling me a sheep. Like it or not, the FG community IS a popularity contest. You know for a fact people play SF4 simply because everyone plays SF4, Tokido dropped Persona simply because not enough people are playing it.

When I read this that buzzer in my head went off. That buzzer that signals where I stop taking you seriously.

To be honest, I don’t think Tekken needs to be dumbed down in order to get new blood into the game. The “difficulty” of the game itself isn’t what drives people away from the game imo, it’s the amount of information you need to know to play the game. It’s almost like a prerequite to play the game. And until people meet that prerequisite, they’re usually left wondering aimlessly throughout their matches against players who have this knowledge. It’s something like an illeterate person playing Scrabble…There’s not much that person can really do with that game until they meet the prerequisite to play the game (literacy).

I think Tekken 5 DR was the best point in the series (in terms of how much information was needed to play the game). Less moves, less characters, less instances where attacks crush, etc… The game was still difficult and rewarding, but at the same time, new players didn’t have to keep track of so much information in order to play. Not to mention, the gameplay (at least in my opinion) was ’ a lot ’ more appealing to watch at higer levels (which is also important for keeping / gaining new players’ interest)… but I guess that’s another subject.

And lol at “This game is boring because there are less than 16 people playing at a tournament”. Like yomipower said, quality over quantity. I don’t see how you can complain either seeing as you probably are not helping the tournament numbers.

The problem is that you think America is a vital component of the Tekken community. It’s not, it never has been, and nobody outside of the US gives a fuck about how the game does in your country.

Tekken is still more popular worldwide than Street Fighter, and it never needed EVO to get that way.

LOL you guys think a 16 man tournament attracts the best players in the country. The quantity is terrible and along with that the quality the players it attracts is diminished.

I don’t think like that at all. you are just assuming that about me. Your entire comment is just a red herring.

Actually top Japanese players have travelled to NA for smaller tournament games. Final Round had a Melty blood tournaement where 3 or 4 Japanese players showed up to play. As for Persona, it’s already planned that 2 Japanese players would be attending NEC for that game.

Tekken’s the best. That’s all that really needs to be said.

…so it is a popularity contest?

No surprise that article got taken down, but the problem with Tekken is with the amount of information that’s required for someone new just to get into the game. Eliminating the fluff would help in that aspect, but at the same time, there’s alot of people who also love it.

But what the point in dumbing these games down for today’s players when today’s players are too consumed/comfortable with SF and Marvel to try other games, don’t have the attention span to stick with a game for more than a month, or don’t want to leave the house to actually learn how to play and just want to stay home and mash buttons?

Why does coming to this forum always make me want to slam my head onto the table repeatedly?

You set high expectations for the discourse here?
