Hey everyone, I just bought a RCA Xbox ready CRT like 2 months ago from my local retro gaming store. It worked beautiful for like 35 days (right after the return policy went up x.x). No one seems to touch CRT TVs anymore. Just wanted to see how bad it was before going in and trying for myself. Anybody here have any experience fixing CRTs. I thought there would be a lot more info on these but I can’t find much. I know it’s not a PVM or BVM but it does have some good inputs like component and the Xbox cord (it’s just a double ended Xbox component cord but it’s neat to see). I would like to see it saved because of the uniqueness and the ability to be able to play light gun games. Please if there is any insight I would love some. I’ll post pictures later if possible.
CRT repair is difficult and very dangerous.
There is a serious risk of high voltage electric shock. hence even when CRT screens were common CRT repair places are far and few in between.
The only thing is I don’t want to move a heavy TV every time it breaks and they older it gets without refurbishment, the sooner it will die. I was thinking to get this one fixed because it’s basically a gaming tv. It has a lot of inputs that I want and it sucks it died so soon.
Repairing it yourself is extremely dangerous and risky. It can be done, but you’d better do a LOT of research. Repairing CRTs incorrectly can result in death. Seriously.
Either that, or find somewhere that does CRT repairs. Hit up forums for arcade cab enthusiasts and stuff. They do CRT fixing.
The only thing is all CRTs will eventually meet their demise and they are very heavy. So what’s to say I do buy another one and that one lasts only a month? I just kind of wanted that one refurbished because it could possibly keep it from demise a bit longer, especially if it is the capacitors that cost even cheaper than buying a crt with component input each time, and if all capacitors were replaced and nothing super crazy happens to it, it would last a few years at least I would think. Idk I might just be fooling myself and it will be the utter demise for my light gun games
Do Goodwill, thrift stores or flea markets near you? You can always buy $100/1,000lbs worth of CRT and you’ll be set for 5-10yrs of use from each that’ll be cheaper then paying a qualified technician to repair your CRT. Sony Trinitrons are great and I had access to as many free ones as I needed but took none. Just saying replacements are available easily.
Yes and they seem pretty much absent. I found that one at a retro game store, most people just throw them out now a days. I just hate having to move them more than I have to, it being like a hundred pounds doesn’t make it easy for disposal. It is what it is I guess. I’ll look around. If I can’t find one I’ll save and get an xrgb mini.
Don’t take too long, Micomsoft is discontinuing the XRGB Framemeister Mini, the Manufacturer Micomsoft/Solaris had no choice but to discontinue as one of the key parts they use to make the device is discontinued.
