Greetings Rashi-bros! I’m subbing (may upgrade to main if I like him enough) this charming middle eastern man with FANG, so I look forward to learning all about him.
Was goofing around in training today and there seems to be some interesting rules regarding how to make his V-Skill dive safe:
-You are aiming as low as possible, as many have already figured out. However, due to the movement of Rashid’s dive kicks, it is much easier to make the HK one safe because he doesn’t fall so fast. The MK one is harder to cover but it can be made safe at a space closer than the HK dive, and the LK one is almost impossible to make safe, so you are likely going to ever use it as a surprise attack to hit on a different side than expected or sooner than expected.
-Instant MK dive following a full screen HK/EX Tornado is safe
-There’s a closer range (~3/4 screen I think?) where instant HK dive is safe
-Go even closer to set up a safe MK dive
-If you V-Skill over someone at point blank, there are safe points for both the MK and HK dives
Indeed. I think people are overemphasizing the ex whirlwind cancels here, and ultimately building a large portion of their gameplan around something that is predictable, and gimmicky.
I was showing it to a friend who I was playing sets with and he was just like ‘Yeah but as soon as I see you rolling I’m just gonna’ DP that crap’, and sure enough, every time I go for it he either light punches me out of it, or DPs it. They can do anything to you really, the window isn’t even that small.
Good players will just hit Rashid out of that crap, every time. Ultimately, because there’s no mixup there, it’s just a gimmick. There’s nothing Rashid can do to vary the approach that potentially baits the enemy. If his roll was cancellable it would be a different story.
Roll off EX WW on block is totally a gimmick, but NOT cancelling it is legit. It’s +6 on block and is a CH setup into f.MP and cr.HP. Rolling off it should probably be reserved for CH corner combos.
So im having a b!tch of a time trying to figure out how to play rashid. Just picked up the game on friday since no Sagat i decided on Rashid since he looks fun. I cant get the rushdown aspect, when players just block i have a hard time opening them up, up close many characters seem to just obliterate or stuff my normals and results in ch and cc for them. I have a hard time keeping pressure, when i use cr.lk, cr.lp xx lp mixer i get punished. And when im being pressured im not sure as to his options beyond ex mixer. Here is a video of a typical match for me and my issure. Any tips, constructive criticism, greatly appreciated. https://youtu.be/nlM2nZ22-qM
From your video:
-Nash is a pain for everyone to deal with. He’s the only character with rollback as a V-Trigger lol.
-Throws are still 3 frames and a viable up-close reversal option
-Never underestimate st.LP and cr.LP for interrupting people. You even get to LP Spinning Mixer after!
-Neutral jump HP/HK seem to work in moderation
-st.MP is amazingly plus on block, use it for frame traps
-V-Reversal is a forward roll, really good for getting out of the corner
-Use cr.MP as your go-to anti-air
-Have frame advantage/knockdown? Opponent likes to do crouching kicks? Toss a st.HK out, it seems to go right over them and crush counters too!
-If you’re cornered, you can actually jump back then wall jump with down-forward, which launches Rashid at a slight downward angle from the wall, which is really good for j.MK cross ups
For all of you still saying roll off ex windball is bad: Stop neutral jumping every single time and it won’t be. If you just hit st lk, you’ll beat anything they try to throw out, and get a counter hit into st mp xx whatever. If you’re lucky you’ll even be close enough to link cr mk off the st mp. Once you start counter hitting their attempts to beat a neutral jump that never comes, they’ll stop pushing buttons; then you can start going back to the neutral jump shenanigans when you’re feeling ballsy.
Ex windball xx roll also gives you quite a bit of push to the corner, ESPECIALLY if you get a counter lk off it into a lp mixer combo. Even if your st lk is blocked it still carries pretty far, AND it leaves you right up next to them at frame advantage (which is exactly where Rashid wants to be). Considering how quickly you build meter in this game, I think it’s completely worth the bar, and one of the strongest tools in Rashid’s game.
Best interupt is st.lk as it is faster than st.lp/cr.lp
Throws are 5 frames in SFV.
if st.hk low crushes a move it doesn’t CC, CC only happens when you beat start up/active frame of a move. . If you want to do a meaty CC, do st.hp as it is not -2 on block.
Ex WWS xx roll a viable strategy against anyone with no 3-frame normal attacks as it is +0 on block even with the last WWS whiff providing a decent frame trap opportunity.
Only thing I do not like is fighting jab queen Chun. It is more about online problems than anything else.
Something I came across while playing, idk if this is news to anyone or not:
When using st/cr.HP xx WWS as a blockstring, MK and EX WWS will trade vs. 3f normals in your favor, allowing you to extend into a full combo. Naturally in the corner you get bigger and more damaging options.
Vs. 4f normals, they just get hit, but I don’t think you can follow up if you did MK WWS, just EX. Both blockstrings lose to reversals.
I tried testing cr.HPxxEXWWSxxRoll into LK in training mode and just got CH out of it everytime, but maybe the timing was off, since you can’t record it against someone blocking properly.
Hey guys, I’ve been playing this game in local tournaments when I’ve had the chance cause I don’t have a PS4 yet and I’m loving Rashid, but I have a question about him, how safe is it to go for the mk WW after an anti-air cr.MP? It seems that characters with a DP can very reliably react to the spinning Rashid and blow him right out of it. Is it only usable vs characters who do not have an invincible reversal or unprepared opponents? Thanks!
Use cr.mp ××hk shot×× vskill roll. 50/50, throw/strike mix up anytime they try to jump.
I learned the hard way that against invincible reversals this is no good. They have too much time to see it,and two different spots they can dp. Against most of the cast thought is really good. They either have to take it, or burn meter to counter/excape.
Against characters with a DP just skip the WWS part and cancel c.MP straight into d+V-Skill. You technically don’t have frame advantage after the roll (especially if the anti-air was really deep) but you will cross up their DP input and likely beat out whatever button they accidentally ended up mashing.
What are you guys doing in the mid and short ranges? Beyond lp mixer, jump ins and the occasional wws? What buttons are you pressing or not pressing etc
I am hitting a wall in this area as of late…I can play 3/4 screen for as long as is needed and I get in safely with lp mixer/lk eagle spike but not sure what to do when I get there - his shitty range doesn’t help things either…
Don’t underestimate the range of cr.HP, if only the second hit hits the opponent (which extends out farther than the first hit) and counters their button, you get a crush counter which you can dash up afterwards for additional damage with mp, cr.mk, special.
Watch Gachikun on CFN for examples of how to play the neutral game.
I don’t see Rashid players using floppy fish and standing fierce in neutral enough. As long as your opponent isn’t too jumpy you can poke with both of these buttons. I use standing fierce just like a chun player would use back fierce.
