I don’t really understand how Rashid is supposed to actually “win”. Like what’s his overall gameplan? Playing with him in training just has him appear at first glance as a worse combination of ELF + Guy with an “okay” zoning projectile.
You can’t combo into his projectile.
You can’t convert either of his two dives, or his spike into combos either.
His most damaging options are from jump in attacks…
Is his jab or dash mixer safe on block? Are you just supposed to try to apply constant chip damage? CC is nice and all, but every character has CC combos, and that have safer ways to attack as well besides jumping in for real damage. Are any of the spikes safe on block?
His LP and dash mixer are both -2 on block, his mixer with V-Trigger out is 0 on block. His dive kick can be safe if hit at a perfect angle that creates no bounceback but its nearly impossible to setup.
His gameplan is to pretty much get in and frametrap. Like I said above and you said optimally he will play like SF4 Guy with frametraps.
Rashid’s best asset is he has tonnes of stuff he can do. As @vivaldi290 said above, keep your opponent guessing to throw them off.
Last night I played against a Karin, first round tried pure footsies, got bodied, then next round used some footsies and mixed in some of Rashid’s other tools and completely threw my opponent off and near perfect’d them.
Has anyone seen the videos from this week’s next level battle circuit? NerdJosh was using Rashid quite well, lots of pressure and frame traps, not very gimmicky. Not sure if I’m allowed the post other people’s videos though?
Nope, I haven’t. could you post the link (or send me it through a pm? :))
After playing a “footsie” style Rashid with limited success the past few days. I saw Mike Ross going ham with him last night on his stream and was inspired. Sure enough, I found a lot more success playing him as well, a whirling dervish of death. Mixing in my jump in attacks with dive kicks to keep them on the defensive, and once I get close enough pressure them with f+mp tick throw and jab x light mixer. It doesn’t seem like big damage, but getting stunned is so easy in this game that it doesn’t take a lot and then you cash it in with a free jump in combo.
This is what I don’t like about the character. V-Trigger and EX moves aren’t going to always be available. In fact, none of a character’s gameplan should be based around having meter either. Block > frame traps. His chip is negligible, and even Guy had easier ways to open up someone.
Joe got blown up, because every single time Rashid would get within jab range, he would just constantly press a button. After the fifth time, you would think he would just block already.
HAHA. SF4 bad habits haunting people. You spoiled kids don’t know how to block and can’t accept unsafe risk.
In all seriousness, if you want someone more consistent, pick Chun Li. She does most of what Rashid does with better everything. Rashid is a very one-track character… the path of “I hope he doesn’t block this.”
If i play gimmicky as shit, I seem to do alright. If I try and play straight up, I seem to lose. Are his only decent, safe pokes really s.mp and s.hp? c.hp is safe, but on block it is your opponents turn, and I think c.mk is punishable if spaced poorly.
So do we have any decent blockstrings? Because if the above is true, s.mp, c.hk isn’t good and neither is c.hp(x2), s.mp. I’ve had some success with s.mp, s.mp… but it is stubby enough it is very, very easy to whiff the second one.
If you don’t pause before neutral and just delay the vskill roll, you can get the same effect and it feels less timing orientated. If you delay it for say, .2 seconds, you can get close to the overlap where it’s difficult to tell even yourself, which side you will land on. I feel this subtle difference early on, makes it harder to detect and react to.
Here’s a string with two frametraps
cr.lp, [frametrap] s.mp, [frametrap] cr.mk
There’s a three frame window between cr.lp and s.mp, and s.mp and cr.mk. These will catch even a three frame jab.
You can cancel the string into lk whirlwind shot for another frametrap, as well as a small amount of meter and chip.
They can use a invincible reversal at any point after the st.mp though. So drop the s.mk xx lk whirlwind shot and you might be able to get them to DP or whatever.
Same here man. If I try and play Street Fighter I get bodied, if I go ham, I usually score a perfect, close to it.
As far as pokes go, I’m getting a lot of milage from St.mk, and cr.mk if you space it properly. I think you can cancel cr.mk into whirlwind shot to make it safe? Need to implement cr.hp onto my game more. I’m not a fan of St.mp unless comboing into it, it’s range isn’t great.
Sounds a bit like El Fuerte. Rashid’s tools feel more ambiguous in comparison though. At least that’s what I feel with the current knowledge I have of the character at this time.
Prolbem I have with whirlwidn shots is that the L version is unsafe on both hit and block and the M version is really slow. I think you can actually jump out of cr.mp xxM whirlwind shot and get a free combo on him.
