The national part of things is weird. It doesn’t mean anything but it does at the same time because we’re supposed to connect in some way to the character.
I think Rashid is at least one step above Rufus and Hakan though. Hopefully.
It’s cool reading posts from street fighter fans in parts of the world I am ignorant of.
It makes me feel like world peace is attainable lol
I think what ZealKnight is saying is the character is sorta one dimensional seeming. Like just ‘Here’s the Arab guy!’. With some stuff stuck on his back/face.
Light Spinning Mixer is the horizontal version. Seems safe on block when you don’t mash the buttons (or, at least, -3 on block because Mika’s fastest grab is 5 frames)
Medium is the angle one.
Heavy is the horizontal, looks like a descent anti air. Speaking of AA, his Nash-like Crouching Medium Punch is very good.
Eagle Spike looks safe because of the pushback.
Two Hits on HP Whirwhind, 3 on Ex.
The dash is correct, he can run too, cancel the run by two moves (Spinning Mixer and Eagle Spike). Well, we already know that and CriminalUpper said that but that won’t kill anyone if I repeat it
The backdash is that mini backflip.
The V Skill Nail kick is unsafe on block.
Crouching HP is the Helena-like move (you know, the double arm attack). You can link into Standing MP (the Yun like elbow), which is cancellable.
Stading Fierce (cancellable) and Roundhouse are his Crush Counter. You can juggle after Roundhouse (like we saw in the trailer) and combo after Fierce (which cause a spinning)
Forward MP is the double slap, seems safe on block.
Forward HP is an overhead, pretty unsafe on block.
His jump arc seems floaty. Air normals also seem weird/bad. Pure speculation though.
Damn v-trigger is a very watered won version from aegis. You get maybe one mixup and it runs out.
He’s not in a crush counter state after blocked dps. Consistent game design ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Edit: apparently no ex reversals are prone to the crush counter rule
No but it looks like a good pressure tool, maybe neutral on block or slight plus.
Problem X was finding some nice shit when he played still. c.HP xx Flip V-Skill, then cancel into Dive Kick at different timings was fucking with the opponent. People say he looks like Fuerte but that playstyle is more reminiscent of Rolento, though obviously it’s completely unique.
His overhead looked kinda slow. s.MP and f+MP look like good normals, they both have good range. s.MP being cancellable makes it look useful for mixups. EX Eagle Kick looked a little like Cammy’s EX Spiral Arrow, it might even be safer, it goes through the opponent then puts him quite far away. The regular versions are definitely punishable with a dash up into combo though.
I’ve said over and over he’s not a terrible design, he’s just not a good one. I guess I can say that, I’m not against him as a character but I’m not for him either. His existence is nothing to me other than 20 people messaging me four days ago asking me what I thought about him because you know “He’s arab too, you’re going to pick him right?”
This sounds like something a marketing rep would say honestly. What stereotype does he crush? That arabs don’t use technology? I’ve never heard that one before. In fact I thought the stereotype about arabs was they were all rich oil tycoons and terrorists. Both him and Pullum Purna are the child of wealthy families, fulfilling a stereotype instead of “crushing” one. It’s not really playing it safe either though, it’s just sorta there. Which has been my point, every time. It’s obvious they are going to play it safe no matter what. Look at Shaheen from Tekken. Honestly not an interesting design, but the details are there. He’s saudi and they even asked the community what they thought. With Rashid, you said yourself that they got his name and trigger wrong. With Shaheen, his kuffiya is even accurate to the color that saudi’s wear. Shaheen is playing it safe. Rashid is just, he’s arab. Also you keep mentioning Rashid’s gadgets, but where are they? What do they do? He’s got some backpack thing, but nothing is known about it. Is that what gives him the wind power? Doesn’t seem like it in gameplay, at least it’s not obvious. He has a scouter, but honestly he’s never even touched it in any gameplay I’ve seen. What does it do? Is it just for show? And his walkie-talkie thing doesn’t seem to do anything either. These things look to just be tacked on. He doesn’t even use them. Even El Fuerte would shout things like “It’s super dynamic cooking time!” “Your flavor lacks punch!” “You can’t fight if you can’t cook!” proving that being a chef was part of his design. Even his attacks were referenced his design of being a chef with moves like Habanero Dash and Quesadilla Bomb. The only references to technology Rashid has shown are wishing he had taken a video after beating a transformed Necalli and putting a picture online after beating mirror match. Could this change, yes. Easily. We don’t really know much about him yet.
I feel like your trying to argue with me that he’s not a product of commercial tokenism. We know he is. Ono, said it in an interview. He wanted to reach the market by making an arab character. What’s wrong with this? He made a bland character. Which means, “hey look, we put one of you in the game.”
My biggest issue with Rashid’s look is that they went OTT with the design. Its a bit like SF x Tekken, sometimes less is more. In this case they put too much into the character and a simpler design would have been better IMO.
Look at Shaheen, initially this guy was OTT too, but they redesigned him and he looks better for it. Its like they are trying too hard to make the character stand out, and they were trying too hard to avoid the “hey, its a terrorist” idea. Lets look at a couple of things about the character:
He is an arab with traditional arab clothing
He is rich
He’s style is based on Pakour
He has “wind” powers
He has a happy go lucky attitude
He likes tech and wears everysingle new one to date.
I feel at least one or two of the above didnt need to be there, especially no. 6. I dont get why he NEEDs tech to do his wind moves. In a game people can throw chi fireballs out their hands, or breath “yoga fire”, why does the guy need tech to do wind attacks? He would have been better without the tech IMO, and just be a “regular dude who likes parkour and meeting new people” kind of thing. Thats IMO, simpler would have been better.
‘Arabs are outdated by centuries’ and being a terrorist.
Seriously? Pullum crushed every stereotype of Arabian women out there lol.
That can easily be fixed, he was just revealed less than a week ago…
That’s not the only colour of Ghutras “Or Kuffiya as you would put it” that Saudi men wear. White Kuffiyas are very common too, it all depends on the seasons. That’s my only issue with Shaheen, a white Kuffiya would have fit him way more.
What details?
If it wasn’t for his Ghutra, you wouldn’t even know that he’s Arab. Much less, Saudi. Seriously, imagine it with me. He’ll look more Turkish than anything. That’s playing it way too safe.
…huh?
See, these gadgets gives him a more unique look. They reflect his personality. His love for technology. He uses his Scouter in his V-trigger I believe. And the thingy on his back is what helps him summon the gusts i’d say. It’s not a bad concept. Definitely more interesting than Shaheen. Shaheen just has a sword…that’s it.
My friend, how can you compare a character that we’ve known for years to a character that we’ve known for NO LESS THAN A WEEK! Heck, we haven’t even seen/heard most of what he babbles about when fighting or winning. You cannot judge him in this area as of now. it wouldn’t be fair.
I am not. But even if he is, that shouldn’t be a problem regarding his design. It’s his first appearance.
Not really, mixing traditions with current technology (That’s like mixing Old w/ new) is anything but bland imo. A middle eastern character that wears traditional clothing as well as techno gadgets to show his love and interest in technology is anything but bland. + his fighting style doesn’t say that either.
Now, if he was wearing only a kandoora + Ghutra, then yea that can be very bland. But that’s not the case.
from what I saw on the WSO, his mixups with the Super look not immediately useful. None of them really worked. Safe pressure with the light version of spinning mixer seemed more consistent.
The ex tornado move has a lot of corner carry. Also with how downwards one of his kicks in the air are(HK maybe?), has anyone tried an instant over head?
Also seems like his V trigger only allows for one mix up. Was thinking it was like 2 or so but I guess that would be way too strong.
Well Soul7, it seems it’s just me and you arguing back and forth at this point. And I’m too lazy to make my points so fleshed out that they require no inferring. I can sit here and analyze why i dont like his design and why you’re missing my points but honestly I’m too stubborn to my mind changed by your continued exposition of the same reason over and over. I disagree with you. I don’t like his design. I’m a little offended by his design. Ive said why. Let’s leave it at that.
If you must continue arguing with me. I’d rather do it in message.
