oh damn drama = hype
and i love hype
Diggin this. I suppose I’m back to playing 4 this week, since it’s off and on.
This is true to the point where it’s rather infuriating. I absolutely have no tolerance for people who think they’re too good to play with others of lesser skill (I hope this is the “elitism” that you were getting at), simply because they are completely ignoring the community which oftentimes makes their very ability to be playing the game with others possible. It seems to me like these kind of people have absolutely no drive to learn and become better than they are, as long as they see themselves as “the best.” I also find these kind of people to be quick to complain about anything that doesn’t work in their favor, but this is a heavy assumption.
This is my opinion, which stems from my rather particular belief that competition should not be an end in itself.
If I haven’t managed to piss you off, come to UCon@UConn on Saturday for some SFIV!

If I have, here’s a link to some top-quality baseball bats.
I hereby award Mindgam3 with eight million Pancho Points. Good work sir.
Tally thus far:
- Mindgam3: 8,000,000 PP’s.
- Everyone else: 0
Pancho Points can be redeemed in the Pancho market for things like vestigial chest hairs, curley mustaches, monocles, Monopoly Boards and other such paraphenelia that serves the general purpose of enhancing your manliness. As for when you can start redeeming your points for said items, I am still working on the Pancho store which includes the tedious process of pricing the various imaginary manly items you will be purchasing for yourself with said PP’s.
Pancho Points can be acquired by saying or doing manly things. What constitutes a manly post or manly action is up to my discretion, but I may or may not be hiring people to work with me in the judging process.
In any event, enjoy your PP’s Jeremy!
As I recall, Springfield (excluding a few heads) is actually what you are describing.
“quick to complain about anything that doesn’t work in their favor”
For as long as I can remember, they complained about SFIV and how it’s NOT ST or not this, or not that. They never actually just stop to think that, “this is a new game, it is what it is.” I guess I could call them Game Elitists.
I don’t know how many times I’ve seen a true TW lose and I see them take their time to complain about how the game mechanics are bad or how it ridiculous. Why not take the time to think about why you lost in a mental sense? You probably made a mistake. Again, if you think the game is so ridiculous or bad, just stop wasting your time and other player’s time if you’re not going to actually try and learn.
I did turn this into a SFIV hate subject, but IMO it’s what it boils down to (since that’s what I always hear after someone eats a loss). I think I’ve put too much thought into this so far, so begin flaming the chink and his thoughts.
real talk
Please don’t mention Springfield unless your going to actually throw down names. Let’s not turn this into a cop out argument. Be real. The majority of Springfield doesn’t even behave that way. I understand there are one or two individuals who are vocal about it to the point of being obnoxious, but while most of us have expressed some reservations about the game we continue to play it when we can.
I like it how you and some others seem to be completely unable to draw a distinction between legitimate gameplay discussion (and opinions regardging quality of the game therein) and people who just complain as a result of having lost. It’s one thing to love a game, it’s a totally different thing to act ignorant and dismiss legitimate discussion. Let’s not lump the two concepts together, kind of like how you just subtly lumped together all of springfield.
Not sure what you are talking about being elitists. Are you always so off on your observations? If we were elitist then I wouldnt have had open invite to play with all of tgf the past few weeks. We even have tournies and as you can see by the results none of you took me up on the offers. I did this despite having a small area to play due to all the whining and kicking and screaming I see on here and TZ. When it comes down to it, all the whiners never took me up on the offer so I assume that the problem is not us being elite. I can understand from the point of view that you guys say “we dont want to play tw’s” because when u have played someone for over a year and they are still at the same place in skill level, its pretty safe to assume that they already have hit a ceiling and are not going to go much further than where they are now. If we are progressing and you are staying the same FOR OVER A YEAR then it kinda is a waste of time. We never stopped anyone in the line from playing us, so im kinda lost on where this whole eliteism thing has sprouted up from??? Pls enlighten me. Anyone who has been worth a flying fuck has been over my place for many sessions (unless i do not talk to you which may be the case for some).
Thomas has had open session as well. As long as you dont smell like you have not taken a shower from the time you were born. If you come to my place smelling like my dog’s shit, I have no problem throwing you out when you get there. Have some fucking consideration. You are welcome to play. Fees are charged at the door to cover drinks and snacks for everyone.
I never understood why you guys arent all allies? The players I play with all work together and make eachother stronger. Thats what I ve been taught and it works out great. Your team is only as strong as your “best player” and if that player is overthrown, then he works to take his title back. so why cant we lump springfield together? You guys should all be a team and as a group youll level up that much faster.
real talk. springfield sucks. If you don’t, place in something other than TF (SNES EURO VERSION, NOT US).
Oh right, I apologize. I do remember some ‘drama’ between yourself and an unnamed individual that seem to have divided some of the Springfield crew. I also apologize for somehow insulting you. I’m assuming you were insulted since you seem to be attacking me personally with phrases like, “completely unable to” and saying I’m ignorant.
I was writing a rebuttal, but I’m sure no one would care to read it when all they can see is red.
EDIT: @mindgame: he made a good post i just read so uh responding: i think there’s a fair amount to learn around people of your (self-judged) skill level, but if you improve there is a bar that raises, but i think SF4 and it’s system is so expansive that there’s usually something to learn from everyone
about the player: i’ll play anyone, really, i don’t find myself at such a high level yet, but if i were to improve, i would spend time playing people who gave me trouble–i wouldn’t say i judge players by skill, but how well they do vs me, being experiencing enough to fight–if i feel i’ve learned a great deal from someone, i move on
i’ll gladly play them if they want experience vs me, or i want to help better someone on their game/matchup
~ ~ ~
Ignoring most posts, and to the point:
I believe that if limits exist in a player, they’re so high that most don’t reach that level due to lack of dedication
The main thing, imo, I’m assuming is the seriousness of CA/NYC players, and how deep they get into the game, and such
From what I see/hear, most of us 'roun (in all respect) are not close to that (majority-wise), fucking honestly, we haven’t picked the game up from day 1 and played 80% of our free time since then, flown to a tourny, gone to Japan to train, or placed much anywhere else in big tournaments or have experience in high-calibur tournies/casuals of other games such as MvC2/ST etc
(again, remember I’m not speaking for EVERY person here)
Flame, whatever, idc, but my point is that any of us could get significantly better if we actually delved into the game, and had regular playing sessions, helped each other evolve, but noooo, gotta have cliques n shit, I think if there was one host who everyone went to at least 3 times a week (not including fridays) then everyone that went should grow in some area: footsies, matchup knowledge, etc
I’ll be the first one to say that if I had money for a console, I would most likely play a lot, but that wouldn’t change the fact that I’d be lacking LAN player to improve myself/and others
food for thought, who says any of us here can’t be the next CA/NYC?
First off, let’s not be ridicolous. No one is seeing red and Im not insulted. I just find it ridicolous that you are making a very general statement like that that is aimed at one or two people, and yet you made it seem as though it was meant for an entire region. If you are going to throw something out there, than mention who you are talking about. The next thing I think that’s worth mentioning is how Jeremy isn’t even from Springfield, so how can writing a rebuttal to him result in a vague mention of springfield? Again, be real.
Im also curious as to what you really know regarding this drama between me and this shadow person or how that has anything to do with me asking that you clarify who it is you are referring to.
People should just ignore trash talkers and continue on with what there doing to improve in SF4. Since everything is open invite to all SF4 sessions in MA everybody should just let people decide where they want to go and leave it be. I hope everybody can agree on this so this pointless drama can end.
Thats something that would annoy the shit out of me at GU was when you guys would sit around and ‘theory fighter’ for hours. When those hours could be spent playing the game and learning the mechanics, matchups, ect. However you guys (well i have to name names so, pancho, zoob, that idlemind d00d) choose not to play and simply talk ‘theory’ = trash SFIV.
LuckyD I think, (at least hope) what Pancho meant by not lumping people from the general area in with a group is that some of the people in the Springfield area do not partake of such drama or elitism, etc, and such do not want to be lumped in with people who do. Myself for example, I like to think of myself as a good sport and anyone speak up if they think otherwise, always looking to improve my game in and out of it… And I’m willing to name at least two other people who are also good sports in the area if I must. As far as working together, I’m again willing to name at least three people I know who I’ve often been able to turn towards advice and get games in with in order to get better. I’m not saying that what you were saying is untrue, just not COMPLETELY true.
If I may offer my two cents, I will say that some people here saying that people are “time wasters” and that people from the Springfield area suck because they don’t place well is a bit elitist. In my opinion it’s just a bit unnecessary to trash talk like that. If you are such great players, then act like great players by helping people if they ask for and deserve it. In so far as complaining about the game mechanics, I’m all for having a heated discussion about them and how they may suck or are good, etc. As long as it’s not used as a cop out for a loss. A loss is a loss, you made a mistake mentally or technically. That’s that. Not the games fault someone didn’t know the rules and mechanics that are set in stone.
i live pretty much a few mins from bg but i don’t have a ride up to MA sessions so idk how i’d get to any -_-;
