I thought it was a good idea…
As we look forward to the next major event in Portland, it’s good to reminisce. It’s been a month and a half since the last major Porland tournament, and I’d like to talk about the single greatest moment from that weekend. As overheard during Winter Showdown:
umbrellastyle^: Hey, good turnout. [notices someone with long hair playing a laptop game] Whoa! Who’s that chick playing Melty Blood over there?
MyNameIsPaullee: That’s your son, bro!
umbrellastyle: What?
MyNameIsPaullee: That’s Alex Kelly Jr.*
umbrellastyle: …Oh…man.
MyNameIsPaullee: [rofls]
^now Axel Kelly
*umbrellastyle from Seattle was registered on the Winter Showdown site as Alex Kelly Sr., with Digital Watches as Alex Kelly Jr.
So so far the tentative plans are to have the tournament on the 21-22 of June… We are pushing for two days to avoid some of the complications about time that arose from players showing up late. This date is not official yet. We are trying to get some feedback about what you guys think about it. It probably is not possible to do a spring tourney so these dates in june are the earliest. They also seem like a good date to have a nice big practice tourney before Evo. So yes everyone please voice your opinions on date and stuff like that, and maybe any extra games you’d like to see added to the list. Or maybe you don’t want more games and would like us to try and get this done in one day… just let us know!
Are you planning on doing entire tournaments each day (not finals the 2nd day)? I’d definitely prefer it if I only have to be there 1 day. We were talking about this at the Saturday meet, and I think Pat was of the same opinion; can’t remember what Vince and Veteru thought about it.
I have a family reunion back in Ohio on June 21-22 anyways, so if that date sticks I couldn’t make it.
Spring is cutting it close, but it is doable. Theres 14-15, 21-22, and most every weekend after that open CURRENTLY. The ballroom does get used up quite a bit, and having it for whole days is a bit harder, but they like us here. lol.
I was thinking we can have it 2 days because of what I said in the last thread
"…besides pdx throwing down space to crash, theres University Place that is like $40-$60 double bedroom for group events a night.
We’ll wait on confirming the room until after we hear back on how the planning goes for NWR."
If people want to crash if theyre coming from out of town, thats real cheap, you can split it easily between 4-5 people with a ton of access room. (ask sytha or others about the room / rates).
The idea behind getting 2 days is we can split up between who wants to participate in what.
Say Capcom-ish first day, second day GG / MB/ SSBB / etc the next.
We can definitely accommodate for more variety in the tournament and possibly larger turnout.
diggin’ the big dream sound keep it up man =D
For me it’s not an issue about money/rooms, just the amount time I have to dedicate. Also, you should note that June 15th is Father’s day, which may or may not be bad for people.
This time, I’m gonna not practice every game I want to do well in. (Last time the only game I didn’t play one bit was 3s and that was the game I placed.)
Well the 15th is not an option in my opinion because of father’s day and its the last day of school.
So close together.
why?
what’s so close together?
Maybe he means the tournament should be annual? I dunno, I say the more frequent, the better. I’ve been trying to travel to at least one tourney a month, so it’ll be nice to have some more nearby.
I think we are going to have our tournament sometime around the end of may or the first week of June. UW has finals in June, so I think May would be best.
I just want to make sure that we don’t overlap or conflict with you guys.
well that was the plan for ours… haha. So umm well if you guys want to do it we just won’t hold ours or something.
Ah man, I was going off your first post saying that it was going to probably be late June, so I figured we would have around a months worth of spacing between the two. I don’t want you guys to abandon yours.
Lets wait and see until we both decide for sure on what our dates will be. I am think May 24th is probably going to be our best bet here.
Well I was just thinking that basically a month in between isn’t enough for most people to get their travel funds back up… but I don’t know we shall see.
Is there a plan to have another Melty tournament? Whether it’s official or not? That’d be nice.
I’m pushing for official, assuming this tournament is still happening.
well, people will either have to travel to Portland from Seattle, or to Seattle from Portland, so no travel fun problems since attending your hometown tourney won’t cost anything. The guys in the middle may just have to spend money on an two hours worth of gas to go to both. If they can’t do that, they are cheap skates.
