OMG… this song is so beyond my capabilities. Methinks I have bitten off more than I can chew.
Lover #16
Bitter stubbornness(?) has become meaningless / Why shouldn’t I
be the one to decide who holds this place in my heart?
When you next want to fool around, when your cell phone is dead
Please don’t come looking for this lost ? woman
I remember the time when I was hopelessly foolish / ?? that I could
??? / It turns out that even if you love me for a fleeting moment
??? changes
1 becomes 4 / 4 becomes 12 / come the weekend ???
- How did I become your 16th lover
Casually meeting the ones who you chose over me
At times I wish I was someone else, transformed to somebody else so I could be happy with you again
I was once your first choice, now I’m your substitute lover
Fell from the highest peak, slipping into the dark valley, I see my fate.
My feet are trembling / I am being taught a lesson because I said that, “There are no regrets in love”
repeat *
A humble(?) person can be happy with second place
But who knew that my taking this quietly would lead me to third place? What wisdom said I would wrest you from the others?
I have silently fallen through 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th place / Bearing with your worsening ??
I am fallen, unable to recover.
repeat *
I don’t want to compete for your kisses / I fear the ???
of your myriad other lovers / At the end of the day, who has the fortune to be your first choice?
How did I become your 16th lover
Casually meeting the ones who you chose over me
Fearing most that I’ll slip even further / better if this is ended / hate and hate no more"
I was once your first choice, now I’m your substitute lover
I was once your first choice, now I’m rabble, ???
I will kiss your warm lips (even though she kissed you) / when you don’t care who kisses you
phew
ok… just to clarify - Chinese songs tend to have a LOT of imagery so don’t take everything literally.
There’s an ongoing “competition” metaphor, with a lot of talk about the winner, placing 2nd, 3rd, etc. Don’t take the numbers literally, it’s just to show that she’s the one he comes to when all his other lady friends are not free. And the heart-wrenching part is that she seems to still pine for him. (well, I dunno how it ends - not quite sure how to make out the line about “better if this is ended” & “hate and hate no more”)
Quite a sad song, actually.
…btw could anyone with a better grasp of the chinese language help glass out? I feel like I butchered the song.
