That’d be cool since I’m still not too sure whether or not I’ll get to make it. I kinda think what we should do, is just hand out prizes like a normal tourney ALONG with the points they get for placing. I can just feel that the money holding idea wouldn’t be recepted very well.

One poker night has already transpired since discussion began on this topic. With another rapidly approaching, shouldn’t we go ahead an iron out the details? I have no objections to the point system that Deezo laid out earlier in this thread. For those who missed it and are Cody-riffic, here it is again:

Standard double elimination brackets, random (blindly assigned by an impartial human unless someone demands that we use tournament software) pairings for first round, and 70/20/10 split per event. Regardless of whether Deezo will be attending this Friday, I’ll be there to run the first Marvel event with Zack’s permission. As we are in a hurry to get things underway, perhaps the issue of whether top finishers will receive anything other than bragging rights should be settled as we go. The only issue left now is what should we set the entry fee at, and what time do we start? Some of you folks are uber competitive, so $5 should satiate your needs. I have no prayer of winning, and I just want to get practice in, so I’d vote for a more traditional ranbat style entry of one or two dollars. But, whatever people decide, it’s cool. I posit this to you all, should we start before or after poker? And why do people start showing up so late? If we all just get there at 8 or 9PM, we could probably have it wrapped up before 11PM and get on with poker at the usual hour.
I recognize that there are 3S players in this area, but the sad truth is that there will be 12 to 20 Marvel players there on any given poker night and 3s is seldom fired up. We’re in a rush to finalize the Marvel event for this week, but I promise to begin 3s if there is truly interest.
As we are allegedly prepping for EVO, we should probably play on console versions of the games. I can bring a Dreamcast this Friday so that we can have it running on 2 screens (3 if we need to utilize the arcade machine to expidite the process). Can anyone bring some MAS sticks? I think Zack only had 2 in working order. When we start 3s, I have a PS2 and Anniversary Edition. Someone else would probably have to bring an additional console and copy of the game to run any event of 16 or more. If we only have 8 for the 3s event, I guess 1 console would be plenty though.
Keith you’re the man! I’m glad it’ll happen whether or not I attend. Motivation for me to attend the next time!
If I can make it I would be able to run the 3s while you guys focus on Marvel if you want.
Common folks, I need to hear opinions on what the entry fee should be and when to get things underway on Friday.
Also, how long should we run the league for? I’m leaning towards 4 months (that’ll be 2 tournaments a month through the month of June). I’m calling it a league since some of us have a great aversion to using that OTHER word.
I think the entry should be $5 for the ‘League’ tournaments.

Okay, $5 entry fee, and we start at 10PM on Friday at Zack’s. I’ll accept late entries so long as you pay the full entry fee and start in the loser’s bracket. It just wouldn’t be fair to those to actually show up on time otherwise. Is that alright with everyone?
I’ll probably show up by 9:30PM to take registration. If we actually get it underway by 10PM or so, I’m sure that everything could be wrapped up before midnight and that poker can get started at the usual time of HELLA LATE. If we have more than 8 players, I think we should probably utilize the machine in the garage just to make the brackets go by quicker. The final 8 should definitely be held on console, as we are supposed to be gearing up for EVO.
I can bring a second DC, could someone bring MAS sticks? Zack, do I need to bring a DC RF adaptor, or will both of your TVs take the standard 3 prong AV inputs?
Anyone want to make any suggestions or demands? 3s players, do you really want to start your league this Friday as well? I could probably do a mini tournament starting at 9PM for you guys. If you have thoughts, post. Don’t wait and see what other people will say.

As re: Plummer: I’m looking at getting a HDTV, but still don’t know what one would be best, sorry. I’ll take advice. 
This friday would be really short notice for the Portland crew. I think it would be better to hold off on 3rd strike until a later date. Maybe 2 or 3 weeks (or the next Zach Night) from this time.

Once we get it rolling, it’ll be a regular thing (provided that we have attendance). I was just wondering whether I should show up an extra hour early and bring my PS2 should the 3s players actually want to start their league this week. If there’s weak interest, we can wait until next week to begin. Regardless of what the decision is, I’ll run the events so long as there is interest. So if you play 3s and have an interest in showing up (be it this week or a later date), post and be heard.
I’d be down for a ranbays, ST, 3S and Marvel, fo sure. Hell, even T5 DR just for the great turns outs! =D

Since little to no interest is currently being shown for 3s, we’ll table that (along with ST) until the next poker night.
