It’s funny cause last friday the mosque was empty, and today there were 20 billion people. Hypocrisy FTL.
@whomever mentioned basketball:
A few years back, I used to spend the last few hours of every day playing basketball nonstop, sometimes even past iftar. It’s tiring but for some reason not at all painful, and the same goes for football (which is more tiring even though it’s a worse workout). Then you get home, shower, eat, and you feel ready to take on the world again.
@MC187: You do realize that one is optional right? “Afford it” doesn’t mean “have enough money”, it means “have plenty of money to spare”.
Wow, I get an (google)ad for the ‘International Muslim Matremonial site’ (muslima.com) when I enter this topic :S
Take it easy on Ramadan and inshaalla(?) for the muslims here btw.
ramadan mubarik guys hope you get what u pray for. personally new york isnt all that bad this year yea its a bit lengthy but its been good so far. i usually try to make a change in my life during this time so anyone got any changes they are trying to get into their lives?
even if it is optional and i have lots to spare, i wouldnt want to support one of the biggest bs countries out there. and that point you made makes sense, but a lot of people still wanna go even if they can JUST afford it. and the fact this country is making a big profit out of religion makes me hate them with a passion. i dont know which i hate more, saudis with their bs ways, or the vatican with their bs ways. with all the billions of $$ the vatican receives, how can there be poor people without anything to eat in certain parts of italy. props to maradona for telling it like it was.
besides, personally i feel that church and religion are 2 different things. religion imo is something personal, even if i dont live like your average muslim (party all the time). a lot of churches of different religions abuse this.
but again im getting way too negative with all the bad things. something like ramadan is personal, and it does involve a lot of good things like cameradery and helping the people who got less or close to nothing. and like somebody mentioned, its actually healthy as well.
Yeah it’s roughly 16 hours here in California also. 40.C, that’s brutal it’s not that hot down here. Stay strong brother!
I understand your feelings towards the Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia. My friend’s parents who are Palestinian grew up there. They didn’t have too many good things to say about the country, they said if I moved there I would have the same rights as them. Basically, if you aren’t Saudi, your life will be difficult there.
On the subject of Hadje, everybody I know who has gone has loved and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. In terms of the expenses, if you can’t afford it, you don’t have to go. My grandfather, who was a scholar, spent his life putting all his money towards raising his children, but he never got to go. It makes me sad thinking about it, especially because he died with most of his children away from him because most of my aunts and uncles fled Afghanistan when the soviets invaded.
Big ups to Valaris and the other mods
Ramadan so far hasn’t been as good as last year for me. I have night classes, and night shifts at work, so I’m not as free as last year. Last year I was free to go to Taraweh every night, and break my fast every night at home. This year is definitely more problematic for me, but nonetheless, it’s a great time and the few times I can have free days make up for the difficult days.
Yeah I have no problem playing sports while fasting, as long as I pace myself. I never go past Iftar however, it’s recommended you should not spare a moment in breaking your fast when it is time to.
I’m trying to get back into the habit of praying 5 times a day, I really slipped up in the past year and I’ve been horribly inconsistent. I’m also trying to get a grip on my temper, I have a horrible temper that gets the best of me sometimes. Additionally, I need to start reading and memorizing Qur’an again. I memorized Surat As-Saff and Nooh last year, then I just lost my drive.
Purpose of fasting is not only to disciple your body without eating. It is more like reclaiming your soul, staying away from sins, being patience and the most important point is to be indulgant to everything.
I have always liked this month too. Days do not start well usually, work stress pushes you to the edges of dark side , but resisting it, is the sweetest victory.
In the iftar time, being with your family, with your friends or sharing your food with someone you don’t even know… this is the joy can not even be described…
musolini, you could do worse than take this month and try to focus on not being such a rude idiot on srk.
And why hasn’t he been banned for circumventing the original ban?
i’ve found that it makes no difference what i eat in the morning, i still get hungry the moment i wakeup, and i’m thirsty immediately too. Going to the gym isn’t a problem, but the intensity has taken a hit.
you think turkish is some secret language noone speaks? Since valaris is keepting tabs on this thread, i hope you get banned again for multiple accounts. Part of ramadan is not swearing and calling people motherfuckin’ morons, yo! like i said maybe you should reflect on it and employ a bit of self improvement.
i’m not interested in a slagging match so dont bother replying, now i know who you are you’re going back onto the ignore list and unless youre quoted i wont bother reading what you have to say, i just wanted to bring the above to your attention as its part of what ramadan is about. PEACE
Alright guys take the arguments somewhere outside of this thread.
walaykum salam, alhamdulillah brother it’s not bad. the weather is really heating up here in san diego, making things tough. and school is going to start soon. but hey, the goodness is in the struggle, so i’m not too worried.
i’m so envious of the people who’s school semester does not start until mid september :(. they have it so easy.
Just came back from Qatar after Ramadan started. It’s nuts, since EVERYTHING shuts down during the day and there is absolutely no eating, drinking, or smoking in public whether you are Muslim or not. Everyone seems to shift to a nocturnal schedule during that time. Takes a lot of discipline to do it, props to those who do, even though I’m not Muslim.
Heh yeah some people become so nocturnal. One of my buddies stays up all night, eats, then tries to sleep all day until it’s time to break the fast. While this is technically OK, it’s frowned upon because like I said earlier, reward/goodness comes from the struggling and hardships. You know, like actual poor starving people lol.
But yeah, I wish I could go to some Arab country and experience the Ramadan there, and then the Eid celebration after. I’ve heard they have wonderful festivals and restaurants open until the super early hours of the morning.
It’s not some people in Qatar. Everything and everyone went to a night schedule. Even the McDonald’s and the mall pretty much shut down until night time, if they even opened back up. It might be frowned upon, but the whole country does it. Even those who aren’t Muslim change to match that schedule since the government there is so pro-Muslim.
What I meant was, it’s frowned upon to just become completely inactive and docile during the day to make the fast easier. In the sense of sleeping all day, becoming lazy, never leaving your house, etc.
At least that is frowned upon in the USA, I don’t know how things are in the Arab countries. Ramadan is not about cutting corners and finding loop holes, in my opinion at least.
