I don’t know much about “competitive DBZ” but I’m thinking about picking this game up. Based on the vids I’ve seen so far, it’s basically “make one mistake and you eat a big fat juicy combo if your opponent is good?”

True…but that button-tap-minigame-to-execute-the-move shit killed it for me. Shin Budokai on psp, you did the move, and the only requirement was that you had enough ki. That was it. It was just better. Sucks ass when you play a fighter…and all of a sudden you’re playing ddr.
Well, after playing B3 for awhile filling up your bar to Max is easy as hell no matter fatigued you are. Since maxing the bar always is in favor of the attacker, it shouldn’t be that big of deal.

To be honest the reason I picked this up is more for the OVA remake.
But the game isn’t so bad, and the graphics are also pretty nice this time around as well. It’s just the gameplay just seems to be stuck no matter how many little tweaks to the fighting is added.
Still good fun for a DBZ fan in the end though.
I’ll probably pick up Shin Budokai 2 on my first leave trip from school, need something else other than Valkyrie Profile to kill time with.

Okay, this game has two major problems…
Teleporting and Momentum. This game has next to no noticeable defensive options. Getting knocked down makes it almost impossible to gain back any momentum you have. Especially since you can just charge an attack, and if you don’t dodge, well…you’re boned. The offensive momentum is RIDICULOUS…with just a simple combo with Hatch, I can take you from full to about half with his basic rush…and lord forbid I have Revenge Cannon, I’m going to murder you.
That being said. I still enjoy the game.

I don’t have the game, but what you stated is one of my huge dislikes for RB1.
That was really the only bad part about IW. Is that it was possible to do something like that. And that’s about it…
Teleporting has strict timing and you cannot do it while getting hit by certain attacks. Once you get better at teleporting, then offense is not as strong (it’s still good).
Revenge Cannon is terribly unreliable, like every other fireball, because it is easy to teleport/deflect.
That said…Hatch is the exception and not the rule with raw damage. He is all S teir in his stats.
Yeah, it’s unreliable to a certain extent. Cause 9/10 if I have you at 2 1/2 health, I’m going to murder you hands down. It’s that simple.
A 38 hit combo with Revenge Cannon tacked on at the end is death, honestly though, the teleport timing may be a little too strict.
But something I’m learning is that my offensive momentum needs to be a bit more controlled with Hatch. He has a lot of freaking cancels, and there really good for GBing and GCing into other attacks if the initial attack series hasn’t gone well. I agree with the stat tier list somewhat, but I would like to say the top 3 are Super Vegito, SS3 Goku and Hatch.

You shouldn’t be hitting a beam super 9/10 times (even during opponent’s hit-stun). They are the easiest thing in the game to teleport.
