I admit I’m impressed by how hard her oki was hit when Laura’s advantage after regular throws is almost unchanged, advantage after hit throws and EX/VT grabs is even better than before AND she gained new tick throws. I think they want you to switch mixup character lol
No, they’re just listening to the whining of fans. When fans are getting bodied by how “unfair” Laura is, they will undoubtedly nerf her in S3, just wait and see.
Its complete and utter character bias to say that Mika’s nerf’s are much much worse than what Sagat got in Super. Not that I’d accuse Mika players alone of exaggerating, go into anyone of the character forums here and you will see posts along the same line of thinking, as we play character [x] only we truly understand character [x], our character isn’t really that good, no nerfs should be given.
I left out his low Tiger Shot recovery getting worse so up the that to 4 frame data changes. Yes Sagat didn’t change how he played, he just became far far worse at implementing his game plan.
Its completely and utterly disingenuous to trivialize the scale of the damage nerf he got which was considerable more than any other character and also ignore his health points nerf.
Vanilla Sagat was clearly the best character at the time SF IV was played, Akuma was probably his equal maybe better but was not fully explored at that time. Yun on the other hand was only slightly better than Yang and Fei-Long all 3 being well ahead of the chasing pack. Yun had more competition for top tier than Sagat did. Mika its far from clear cut, she could be just outside the top 5 or she could be the best, but the general consensus is that she’s probably now in the top 5, and is pretty much as strong as anyone else in there, the difference is her play style is the most obnoxious and most hated of the top 8 characters. You could explain x, y and z reasons why that opinion is laughable and wrong, but I could go and get x, y and z reasons from Ken, Cammy, Karin and Nash players as well.
I do agree with you that nerfs in general are not a good idea, and lower characters should be buffed up to catch up instead. Capcom keep promising they will not nerf upper tier characters and buff the lower tier to catch up but they never do. They implement a raft of buffs and nerfs for nearly all characters, but generally upper tier get more nerfed than buffed and vice versa for lower tier.
Its not as clear cut as saying Tools>Damage>Health, Seth had the best tools Seth in SF IV but he never won anything major because in practice he was too hard to win with consistently. There is a balancing act between all three.
Was Mika ever considered got tier like Vanilla Sagat or 3rd Strike Chun or ST Vega/O.Sagat or Magneto/Storm/Psylocke? Nope. I don’t care what some skinny Dudley wannabe on Twitter said. The character won CPT finals and came in 2nd in Evo. In both case there were a far larger number of Chun and Ken players than Mika players.
No one said she was. By the way Akuma was up there with vanilla Sagat, Yun was up there with 3S Chun, Dhalsim and Balrog, where better than Vega and O.Sagat. Who gives a toss about balance in trash like Marvel. I don’t play Dudley. Thank you for proving my point that Mika is a good character. Good for Chun and Ken.
Let me just say this. I have been here since her very first day in Beta.
I remember when the game was about to launch that things looked a little bit bleak for Mika at that time. I remember her getting nerfed so freaking much from her Beta 2 incarnation. I remember Beta 3 being such a rough experience because of her nerfs before the wall change got reverted.
I will say that starting in season 2016 people were thinking that Ken was bad, that Mika wasn’t that good. Do you guys remember the point in time where we thought that Nash was the worst character ?
What i want to get at is that the game is changing once more. We will likely have to go through a different meta than the one we had before. I see many characters having to do different options or losing some Oki setups. We just have to look at the greater scope here and just accept that she is a piece in a bigger picture.
I think that without a doubt that she will plummet in the tiers, at least initially. Perhaps some new setups, some new strategies or block sequences would be found. Who knows ?
I will just keep this ironic AV for a bit and will stop whining about Mika. Now we are just gonna stick it out with her and hopefully bitch and moan about her replacements until they get nerfed to shit too xD
I believe that was confirmed yeah. Regular Brimstone is also still +2 but just at a further distance IIRC. You can still dash up and rainbow typhoon after a brimstone according to Ocean.
This shows otherwise. Dashes up after LK brimstone and gets CH by 4f move when attempting another brimstone. Maybe she’s 0 now possibly? Unless Salubi was just mistiming or LK brimstone k/d advantage has been chagned.
This is even worse than i have imagined. So no dash pressure after anything basically now. Not after peach, not after brimstone, nothing at all.
How are we even supposed to corner carry if we aren’t getting pressure after anything ? Just maybe a st.Lk to press on wakeup.
She lives and dies by the corner now, huh ?
Perhaps there will be a safe jump or a charged dropkick on wakeup, perhaps wiffing a cr.HP would put us at enough frames to do anything. Just anything.
And the dude above saying that Sagat had it worse. Sigh…
All i can say is that i hope this isn’t the final build. Otherwise, i don’t know what can be done.
I imagine she is still at an advantage but I fear that either her throw is 6 frames, dash is slower or less recovery for the opponent.
Looks to me that the best we can do is a dash St. LK or a medium punch but either way we lose the turn and get no real throw or hit mixup.
Then why did they nerf the damage on Brimstone? Why would I ever go for risky as hell 120 damage throw with no real followup pressure.
Hmnnnnn. … I don’t know. I honestly am at a loss now. Even if you followed up with a st.LK after a Brimstone you are way too far for a tick throw. I imagine that this is also too far for a cr.LP or a st.LP to combo so you will basically be forced to TC which has no pushback so you would get punished.
So now she can do a command throw and 50/50 between doing a meaty St. LK TC which will get punished or do a rainbow typhoon which will result in bad positioning.
Advantage after throws (so it’s settled once and for all):
forward throw: +3
forward throw on crouchers: +22
back throw: +11
Typhoon: +26
EX Typhoon: +15
Brimstone: +20
EX Brimstone: +20
Airplane: +19
EX Airplane: +19
So yes, you’re still +2 after dash on Brimstone.
And yes, her command grabs are still better than Laura’s.
And finally I think I misstimed myself, you can still do L Brimstone loops.
100% sure. Frame Trapped displays the active frames after each grab. You subtract the dash frames and voilà.
I did L Brimstone 3 times in a row on a Ryu that jabs on wakeup and it worked perfectly.
