You are probably holding forward too much. It is a very slight tap. The link is tight but you just need to tap forward, don’t even need holding it. You just gotta find the correct timing of doing this tap after the first st.MP hits.
Can we talk about her 2hp a moment? Cuz I think our crew has a real chip on its’ shoulder irt it. 2hp was clearly built to be, and always has been, a decent footsie tool. Everyone wants a good longranged get in. Mika’s toughest game plan is getting in. I get the angst, but it is by no means still useless. Like the air legs nerf, it was to make it so that people used it for its other uses since it was getting overused for its unarguably better use. It still works as a footsie tool, still works as a vtrigger ally on hit, and pretty sure it still works for some meaty (haven’t checked if that got erased or not with the new wake up timings.) 2hp is still a decent footsie tool. Just be more mindful about when your opponent moves. Without it you’ll be missing a hadoken punish among other punishes.
I mean a high level player would have strategic ways of using it and would space it so it was at least harder to whiff punish, but it got to the point where you would fight Mikas online and it was the only thing they would run hoping to take advantage of the lag and the hit box. Even at high level play it was a bit of a crutch that lead jab to this to that and if she landed a counter hit you were instantly going for a ride very close to the corner no matter where you were on screen.
c.HP is still basically a free party starter once your V Trigger is active since the extra minus frames aren’t really going to matter on V Trigger cancel. Still going to be plus as shit and if you hit them it’s probably a nice free ride to the corner and hefty damage if they’re even alive afterwards. You’ll have to use other buttons more often now, but at least it’ll get rid of the mindless Sonic the Hedgehog Mika’s online. The hit stun buffs to her other buttons allow her to get more off of solid pokes and approaches also.
Cr. HP still good, but it’s not a free mixup on block at max distance. Still has good adv on hit from the ranges you would have typically used it from before, but the opponent blocking it now means it’s their turn.
Basically she is stronger against shoto and worst against the rest of the cast. A match again Ibuki, Juri or Bison was a cakewalk, now it’s mission impossible. She lost her V-reversal which was her strongest asset because you were turning the game around with combo spammers. Chain combo spamming should be able to be punish or stop with a poke, instead it is highly encouraged which make this game unfair when comparing the entire cast. Laura is now even more dangerous and the match is now easily 7-3 in her favor when it was 6-4 in Mika favor before.
She is not viable because she cannot punish anything anymore. Pressure is killing you to a point it is retarded. Everything everyone do is +, however Mika is having nothing anymore comparable. It’s obvious on paper that she need to fight her way in which put her as a character as worst as Dan
She is now total garbage. I will easily put her as the worst character of the game. She has no way to get in and nobody wants to jump on you. It last forever and it is really boring. Not to mention that her AA game is really bad and her footsie game is anemic at best. The dropkick hitbox should have been bigger than that. Some hitboxes are passing underneath and jumping people are punishing it.
She has barely any valuable combos and her only valuable buff is st.mp on hit. They had to do that for making st.mp clap working again.
Basically, overhead, st.mpX2 + med flying peach is what I do.
Ex flying peach is now a move I want to avoid. The rest is nowhere near as good as season 1. I would only do that for a corner carry so I can walk it into lady mika.
I am dropping her and waiting for these new characters to pick my new main. She is a waste of time and she is going to be buff like hell in next season. It will be El Fuerte all over again.
Why…? it’s safe jump wakeup and people who believe a grab is coming and jump or do anything get into the vortex. I was using safe crossups since forever in IV.
But basically yes, it’s her only real great combo. It’s working easily, the wakeup game is perfect and it’s starting the vortex. On block you can option select into giant swing. Brimstone is getting you off range and whiff too much. WA OS is a great tool to if someone get away. But yeah, you are right… she is great and I am just imagining things.
Sadly, this is probably going to be me too. My games in S2 so far have been extremely frustrating. She has basically lost all of her tools she used to get in. Hopefully S3 can bring her back, but I predict even low tier players will avoid her. Losing the wall bounce was okay, but the changes to her c.hp really broke her in a bad way. She was already weak in neutral, and certainly not top tier, but the nerfs were designed to ruin her neutral further, on a level that I would only expect to hit an S tier character…
St.MP is a decent enough counter poke option. It isn’t amazing by any means but it is still there and is very confirm-able into EX peach. st.HP is also excellent at catching forward dashes and forward moving moves from the opponent. cr.MK is still alright and you gotta use it. cr.MP is still a good anti-air if they try to jump in on you.
I feel that most people aren’t getting that Mika should be played as a wall now. She will get close inch by inch with the threat of a sudden movement like dashes, dropkicks, cr.HP (still decent on hit and being -1 while closing the distance isn’t bad) and jumps. The other characters can’t jump in on Mika because her anti-airs are great. Neutral jump is risky vs a good Mika player cuz EX wingless airplane will snatch anything in the air. They can’t keep dashing into your face because st.HP, st.MP, cr,MK and HK will all counter poke nicely.
Just be patient guys and resist the urge to get in as quickly as you used to do before. Honestly with the exception of Guile, the characters that could contain Mika all got nerfed, Nash and Ryu are prime examples of this.
Consider Mika now a real grappler, think of her as a mini Zangief that is just more mobile.
Mika has always had to play patient, think Fuudo and Du. She just had tools that let people bullshit with her more. If there is one thing I think they shouldn’t have nerfed its her clap on block. But other than that, I think her neutral stayed the same, if not got a little buffed by some frame data changes to her cr.mk/st.hp.
But I am more worried about @S-Laughter and his concerns. Is it just match ups or what buddy? Your Mika crew here to try and help you out man. Don’t gotta get a Brazillian wax to stay cool Mr.Hercule.
The thing is that, whether it was the “right” way or not, a lot of my game plan revolved around being very patient until I landed the one very precisely placed clap to then shift the entire momentum of the match to my side. The inherent fear of the clap made every single opponent approach her differently. That fear isn’t there anymore, so her neutral has fundamentally changed just based on how everyone approaches her.
I also relied a lot on using cr.LK as a measuring stick to then use cr.HP as a proper pressure tool. Those two options being gone are big setbacks for me at neutral.
CH cr.MK > EX Peach is going to be very important now, I think.
