R.Mika General Thread: She's Stone Cold

@mykka gunna be honest. I hate discord ~_~

Yo damn. V-Trigger 2 is pretty sick.
I think overall she is buffed because of this V-Trigger.

I’m inclined to agree. It being 3 bars is a little rough but the combo and reset potential seem awesome.

The initial activation is strong, now what I want to see are more uses for the secondary activation. Its great for stun combos (which you can get to from the initial activation), outside of that I’m interested in seeing what it can be used for in terms of creating general openings for Mika.

Very interested in seeing what people do with it as time goes on. This is all day 1 tech.

It’s early to say but I feel s3 Mika gonna be pretty solid despite all the nerfs she got (dive bomb more unsafe on block and whiff command grabs recovery increased). Excellent anti airs, amazing new trigger and general buffs in her footsies will make our army more consistent over this year. Can’t wait to see Fuudo godlike confirms in high level matches before hitting people with that chair.

PS: an interesting review of Mika in this season. Might help us, specially beginners one:

Chakotay’s breakdown is good, watched that over morning coffee. I’m looking forward to more tech vids from him and Jammerz as we get a little further into the season.

the nerf to dream driver (crouch throw) really pisses me off.

There’re tons of fun stuff on twitter around her chair trigger. It seems that freshy Mika from s1 is back.

[details=Spoiler]

Yeah, I am excited to see more results in the upcoming weeks/months.

I think so too.
I also can’t wait to see Fuudo in action again (if he sticks with Mika). I really think V-Trigger 2 fits him well. Because Fuudo is a really patient footsie player who is like a moving wall, he pushes you into the corner slowly but surely (that’s how he played Fei as well). And V-Trigger 2 helps a lot with that.

I don’t know about the full mixup potential yet, but in terms of creating an opportunity for Mika to get in and pushing the opponent to the corner, V-Trigger 2 seems better overall imo.

VT2 is looking absolutely barbaric. Shades of Season 1.

It is really interesting. It gives her back her mid-screen resets from S1, albeit behind a 3 bar VT. The upshot is though that it seems to have a lot of variance in what you can do afterwards so the mix ups seem to be real as fuck.

The hard part seems to be getting a good return out of the second activation, because Mika has a long pause without any time stop to help her out (needs a stand). I think the Hameko one you posted in SFV General is a good early lead on the right idea: if you get the hit into VT2, rope toss then immediately burn the second activation to set up another guessing game on your opponent’s wake up.

The other aspect of VT2 that is nice is that Nadeshiko and the chair ignore everything, with the exception that Nadeshiko actually has a collision box so she can fuck with your opponent’s movement sometimes. Saw a clip in the Mika Discord where Ken hit with a fully mashed VT2, landed and CA’d, but because Nadeshiko was there the CA completely whiffed (even though the CA invincible’d through the chair attack).

Similarly I was testing how the chair toss (short activation) interacts with projectiles and the answer is that it doesn’t; the chair goes right through them without clashing. Even went straight through Ryu’s CA. Not that any of that is practical or something I think you could actively apply - the start up of even the short activation is such that I don’t think you can really react with it to something - but it is interesting to note. If you get the Nadeshiko call off, she is coming out and your opponent has to deal with that. The next level of VT2 is going to be being able to deal with opponent reactions to VT2 calls and capitalizing on that. Sort of like how Urien has to have set ups ready for when Aegis doesn’t lead to a full combo/reset/whatever.

Edit: Meant to cross post the VT2 set up DJ linked, and forgot. Hopefully this link works:

Yup, Lord Fuudo himself said it.

Seems like lord Fuudo agrees with me.

Also there is that

Like seriously, can we get something that isn’t a jump in on someone in the corner, point blank while having 3 bars. That is an unrealistic scenario that will only happen once every 100 games.

I tried getting this VT2 to work but it just sucks tbh. It looks cool on video but practically it is so bad compared to VT1.

Yeah the VT2 digging needs to go a lot deeper. Day 1 it was cool to see the combo and reset stuff you can pull off with it just as a general demo, but I haven’t really seen anything that moves past that. Like the reset stuff mostly looks really cool but it still boils down to a reset which she already has in VT1.

And I don’t know if it is because there is so much going on but VT2 resets seem to elicit “fuck this” reversals, which is fine if you can bait them but again you don’t really see that in any of the VT2 stuff. Its all showing the sequence when the opponent doesn’t block and you get the pick up; great when it happens but not like its guaranteed.

I wouldn’t write off VT2 yet, but I do think that the focus on it needs to expand beyond just optimal situations. There are going to be a lot of times when you’re activating this on block; what should I do from there? What can I do from roll or slide (since that is still going to be the most likely way for it to come out) on block or hit?

The second activation sure seems to suck, but you don’t even see anything about it because it doesn’t really feature in the sick combo videos (except when it is used immediately after activation).

I think if anything great is gonna come out of VT2 for Mika it is going to involve more digging and exploration than just documenting all the resets you can get or what the jump in combos look like. Its sort of a fucked up proposition because I feel like its something you’d need to run for a while to really see how it plays out in lots and lots of matches/situations, but that is a hard ask for anyone, especially when VT1 is right over there being all sexy, flexible, and figured out.

Aside from VT2: cr.MP feels damn good as an anti-air. Of all the normal AAs that got buffed, that one has to be one of the best.

After a lot of matches with VT2 (previous a bit of training mode for learn a couple of setups), I came back to VT1.

Yes, the comeback potential is big, in the right position and right situaton you can stun the opponent with 1 reset. But like you guys said, this stuff doesn’t happen frequently. Futhermore, 3 bars VT mean you not ready with trigger activation most of the times.

In addiction, in onBlock situation, I think VT1 is better.

I think 3 Bars VT doesn’t fit with Mika. Her VSkill is too dangerous to use and play this character without VT for 80% of the round is difficult.

Sadly, VT1 Nadeshiko receive a nerf beacuse of the 2 hit damage scaling. Yes, it’s a global change, but characters with one-shot activation VT suffer most (Mika, Nash).

Global changes affect Mika very bad (Damage nerf, Command throw recovery), plus Divebomb and Dream Diver nerf
This character get worse every season.

At least, the cr.MP buff is very good, but I see this more a fix than a buff. Do you agree?

Mo Joe (CFN: Joey900) just won Frozty with VT2 Mika (never used VT1 on stream). Known for beating Fuudo at one event and beat Poongko at Evo.

(Russian commentary youtube link until US recording hits youtube)

Congrats to Joey900. That is cool shit.

I think the degree to which they made cr.MP an ironclad AA puts it into the “buff” category, at least for me.

Laura’s st.MP supposedly got similar changes but it feels like Mika’s cr.MP covers an even bigger area around her head than Laura’s elbow does. Even with my incredibly rusty Mika I had cr.MP win or trade with any AA I ran into online, even cross up attempts.

I think that is a big help for her as it at least gives her something in neutral (between cr.MP and EX Wingless your opponent is taking big risks by going airborne) and mostly importantly it helps her keep opponent’s locked in the corner once she gets them there. If they try to jump out cr.MP should not only catch them but it also pops them right back into the corner into a mix up.

Her cr.MP is like the one “home run” she got this season. People are gonna hate that thing.

She is pretty high on the Japanese “week 1” tierlist. A tier and even higher than Laura.

That’s interesting.

Do the Japanese confirm that each tier is order of strength? Sometimes each tier is just a generic figure like “all of these characters are nearly as good in this tier”.

no mask Mika!

Yea I just assumed it at first but it probably isn’t that accurate. It’s week 1 after all.

I hope we see more “no mask” costumes for her in the future. She is a real cutie. I also really like her hairstyle. Refreshing.
