I guess against shotos, Cammy (low health and good reversal) and Guile (who has a strong reversal with easy auto correction option) guaranteed damage is the best that we can do, but not the whole time. More random you play R. Mika, more successful you gonna be. Actually Fuudo is my favorite Mika player, who hardly ever uses her resets, in contrast to Marn (who is funnier to watch).
I tend to go for resets ifâŚ
- âŚthe post-reset mixup will kill, stun, or deal lots of damage, but guaranteed damage wonât.
- ⌠the post-reset mixup will lead to a stun and kill but the guaranteed damage will stun and result in the post-stun combo becoming heavily scaled.
- ⌠the max damage followups either put me in a bad position or require meter that isnât worth it:
- ⌠the reset sets up a left/right 50/50.
An example of (1) and (4) would be after a corner stun. I notice some lower-level Mika players will go for the typical st.MP into Passion Press combo, even if it wonât kill. In that situation, itâs almost always better to go for a combo into f.HP, cr.MP, which grants a free left/right 50/50.
An example of (2) would be if I have the opponent at roughly 300-350 life near stun and hit them with the standard st.MP into Passion Press. If it looks like charged st.HK into Wingless Airplane will stun, I might just reset with st.LP or raw st.HK into Rainbow Typhoon instead so I only get one hit of scaling after stun.
I really like the damage on the typhoon throw. If anything about Mika merits a nerf, it is the damage on ex typhoon. I will typically go for a reset to typhoon, especially if they are near stun.
The damage on EX RT is fine. Keep in mind that itâs the only EX command grab that canât be followed up with any pressure and doesnât have any useful special properties.
Alexâs EX Power Bomb does the same damage and stun as EX RT (220/250) with the added benefit of a free meaty LK Slash Elbow. Zangief is +2 on forward dash after any version of SPD that isnât the light one and his EX SPD is throw invincible and does 240/300. Birdieâs EX Killing Head is throw invincible, does 220/270 normally and gets bumped up to 264/270 when heâs in V-Trigger. Lauraâs EX Sunset Wheel can be followed up with meaty oki, moves her forward, and gets movement and damage buffs when sheâs in V-Trigger. Vega is +2 on forward dash after EX Grand Izuna Drop. You get my point.
So who else is upset that Fuudo lost to wakeup dpâs and light jabs at Dreamhack?
Da Goddess of booty needs buffs. It is so insanely frustrating to make only one mistake, get knocked down, and now youâre fooked. Iâve also determined that Laura is an overall better character. yet da Muppet Babies cry that sheâs easy and they get butfooked by resets when if you get knocked down in da corner by any character, especially oneâs with a command grab and a good reversal like Birdie, youâre done. Da Goddess has no reversals. But no, Muppet Babies donât want to hear dat. Dey want to run to they Nannie and cry and demand nerfs.
I demand:
A good v-Skill. Just reduce the recovery and maybe make it so the Mic hits above her head to stop free jump ins or Dive Kick moves.
Standing HK should CC and leave them standing like every other HK that CCâs. Why. Da. Fook. Can Necalli, Karin, Laura, and Ken throw da fooking HK out, it CCâs, GDLK combo wombo time. But da Goddess? Nah son. You have to do Sweep or EX Peach. Thatâs it. All for dat 200-ish damage. Meanwhile theese other doods can just throw it out, canât really be punished unless theyâre right next to you, and if they land it and dey have super? GG time. You just lost 40-50% life and now youâre in the corner. Itâs already unsafe if done close. Let me do something cool.
Faster startup on the Slide/Sweep. Why canât she punish basic shiz unless she has EX? At least let me punish da mario fireballs on reaction with Slide.

I typically go for damage first. Although I donât really see it as that. Ex peach in the corner (midscreen too actually) still nets you a grab/meaty 50/50. Even regular peach gets you a grab/meaty mix up on their wake up. Once in a while Iâll reset, usually if I donât have meter or damage scaling is becoming a factor or I just feel the need to mix it up. Depends on match up/opponent/situation, really.

I agree with this. Laura is a better Mika, Necalli is a better Laura.
Nope. EX RT always leaves the opponent at a set distance away from you and away from the corner, no matter what your position is on screen. I forgot the exact frame advantage Mika is at after EX RT, but itâs definitely not enough to pressure.
Iâm with you on this. Her crush counter standing hk is weak. Most characters can throw out frame traps into their crush counter moves, and if youâre crush countered itâs totally free combo time. If Mika hits a non-charged hk crush counter itâs puts them in juggle state, and Mikaâs not a juggle character. The charged s.hk also pushes them back on crush counter so you have to dash up to follow it up, very tough for me to react to this :\ Iâd like her charged hk cc to not push them back so much.
As for the v-skill⌠idk if Iâd want buffs to that. It is a very interesting v-skill, but I feel if it was buffed, sheâd have to lose something for it. Iâd take our current v-skill over any other nerf.

Nobody in this roster canât beat Mika when the point is having fun. Maybe Ibuki gets a bit close down the line. Maybe.

I would also add that in addition to not being able to follow up on EX RT that itâs also one of only three EX command grabs in the game that strictly speaking donât really do anything (i.e. no special properties). Birdie and Gief have 5f EX throws that have throw invulnerability while Laura gets interesting setups with her EX throw and Necalli gets a free juggle off of his EX throw. Only Mika, Alex and Vega donât see any notable changes (other than damage and range) to their EX command grabs.
What are your thoughts on Mika in story mode?
Glad that she wasnât a stupid Mary Sue like Karin, but still think her role was extremely irrelevant. Her rivalry with Ibuki was funny and they should explore her wrestling skills together with Gief. Also, the total absence of Nadeshiko explain the weird script adopted by Capcom staff.
Fingers crossed for more opportunities in future updates. Her trajectory in SFV story base needed to be touched on even more. She deserved better representation in this, definitely.
I think she did fine. Mikas wasnât supposed to play a major role anyway but yea, the absence of Nadeshiko kinda bothered me as well.
By the way, I am loving how Karin has been depicted in SFV. It was a great improvement from her Alpha 3 persona. Honestly, I donât know why people are so mad at her.
Mika tanking Balrogâs punch (punch strong enough to kill one of Dhalsimâs elephants) was the coolest moment on the story mode.
How do you guys approach Necalli? I have no idea how to deal with him. Jump in and I get tagged with st. jab. Try to stay away and he builds v trigger. Try to pressure and I get hit with wakeup dps at times. Iâm not sure about what strategy to take.
