R.Mika General Thread: She's Stone Cold

To be fair to that dude’s post. Mika’s F+MP is extremely solid online where -2 could as well be + I have played against Mika’s that will just mash it like their lifes depend on it.

That’s the mentality that will get you bopped at tournaments lol

I’m just tired of these people complaining instead of figuring out their matchups. She ain’t invincible, or anywhere near close to that. The amount of hate she’s getting online is unwarranted.

I wouldn’t say the hate is completely unwarranted… She is a character that betrays the rules of a game that is heralded as the “neutral game” or the “honest game” by having no neutral or honest game. She is the hyper mix up character. I wonder if I’d even play her except that I love her portrayal and personality. I choose her as my main before I ever played her, and since I typically played neutral characters like Ryu in sf4 it was a big step to take on a character with this style haha.

I understand the rage. You think you’re safe just throwing out an srk but the Mika player called it and now you’re out 30% of your life and you better guess right or lose another 30% or more. The biggest thing is to realize when you’re being reset, as that is Mika’s strength. She doesn’t have a 50/50 much better than any other character can do, but the fact that she can back to back reset you really adds up. People know when they’re knocked down to be ready for the guessing game, but when you’re whipped from the corner and she jumps back into a reset and throw back to the corner and you don’t even realize you were supposed to guess that time haha. Other characters have resets too, and they can be just as frustrating when you get reset into another combo from anyone else… But that is Mika’s specialty and I’m expecting the salt. Her reset game may even need a little nerf.

It isn’t the resets. The wall bounce being as slow as it is means you can get them knocked down to match the wake up to whatever their weakness is. Mika doesn’t play footsies, that is what this really is about. She is DESIGNED not to play footsies, so people who like that get upset. They don’t like HER, it may be about the salt for some but thats what it really comes down to. They don’t like the games intensity to come from unpredictability and reading the opponent. They want it to come from spacing and getting rid of as much unpredictability as possible and ‘good reactions.’ But lets think about this a bit further. Why do they not react the same way to Zangief? He plays just about as much footsies as R.Mika, and is almost as predictable, so why no hate for him? Simple, they are used to the big bulky character being built that way, not the nimble one. Tl;dr, Mika fine and don’t really need nerfs according to her /design/. If they ‘fix’ anything it’ll be her wall bounce and not much else. People just be trippin’ over their preconceived notions of how SF should work or get upset that they aren’t better at guessing.

You dont see people talking about Ken’s corner game which is a much bigger threat, but I guess since he’s Ken, they just let it slide. Many characters in this game have cheap tricks, its just easy to pick on Mika instead.

Aight, I’ve been experimenting with Goddess Mika’s bodysplash, dat jump and down MP move. I used to swear off this move and just use it to bait SureYouCan’s. Like, you get a fullscreen or three quarter’s screen and do body splash early to bait a SureYouCan and punish the mofo. But I never realized that the bodysplash can just straight out beat AA normals.

I’ve been testing it. The poopy part is dat you gotta be almost at a quarter screen distance for it to work. Plus it’s unsafe as fook on block. But you can use it to condition dudes to stop using AA normals. Chun Ree unfortunately can still shut it down with her LK but the timing is crucial so it can still hit her depending on how early she does the LK.

Worth using in a quick 1-2 match online? Yes.

Worth using in a long set? No, but can be used to mindfook and throw them off.

When are dey going to buff the V-Skill? That shiz makes me SMDH.

I had some serious doubts about Luffy’s Mika after his weak performance at Red Bull Kumite, but since then he seems to have cracked the code. I didn’t catch all his matches at Kakutop League, but the ones I did see were fantastic. It’s amazing how quickly he’s improved.

Hi new to playing Mika. I have a couple of questions if anyone can answer them.

  1. How hard is she to get decent with?
  2. What’s her best anti-air?
  3. How good is her vTrigger?
  4. What’s her best wake up since she doesn’t have a reversal?
  5. I keep hearing about her resets and 50/50’s? What are these? How do you do them?
    Thanks.

I would say she is fairly easy to get decent with as you can control a lot with your mixups.

Her best anti air is s.hp if you are standing, and c.mp if you are crouching. You can also j.lp, j.mp, and j.mk to air to air people.

Her v.trigger is one of the best in the game. I have won many matches because of the v.trigger alone.

She does not have any good wakeups. It is best to wakeup based on your opponent. If you think they will attack, block. If you think they will throw, jump or tech.

50/50 means you have 2 (or more) things you can do which put your opponent in a position where they either guess right, or get hit. Such as if I attack you, then blocking will win, but jumping will lose. If I throw you, then blocking will lose, but jumping will win. This is the most essential 50/50 in the game, and every character has access to 50/50’s. In fact, you could say the majority of the game comes down to those decisions for all characters.

What makes Mika good is that she has several ways she can put people into 50/50 that are strong.

A reset is when you knock your opponent out of the air in a way that makes them forced to land standing. Most times people fall to the ground and can react by quick rising, back rising, or delayed rising. If you reset your opponent they are standing, and vulnerable immediately on touching the ground rather than getting any of their rises. This allows you to keep momentum even when you are not holding a true combo, as your opponent may not expect the reset, or something about the reset may make the proper reaction ambiguous.

What really makes Mika good isn’t just her 50/50, other characters have 50/50, and some better than hers. What makes her good is that she has a lot of resets into 50/50. When you hear people say “Mika only needs to touch you once” that is what they are referring to. Mika’s "over powered"ness is felt strongest when she chains 2 or more resets together fluidly. This type of power can take an entire lifebar away and leave you stunned in a very short amount of time.

1: Medium difficulty. You got to know dat grappler meta game. If you know how to mindfook dudes as a grappler then you’ll be rite at home with the Goddess. If not. Then you got da learn her BNB’s, Tick throw shiz, and just faking doods out and just knowing when to do shiz.

2: I’d say cr.MP just because if you land it it leads to a 50/50 situation. But it will whiff against certain jump ins depending on their distance. Like I know Keeeeen’s jump Tatsu will whiff completely if I try to AA with MP. Same with Nash’s that go for crossup. Her EX Wingless is GDLK! But it doesn’t have invincibility until frame 4 so you’re timing has to be on point.

3: GDLK.

4: Block or Alpha Counter. Maybe wakeup Jab but it depends. Don’t be dat dood who mashes Jab on wakeup. No one likes dat dood. You can try wakeup super but her super has 3 frame startup, so unless you’re fighting an idiot they can just jump out. It kinda’ works if they’re being very predictable and want to go for frame traps but it’s risky. Feel me?

5: Her resets are the Passion Press combos (forward MP, Forward or back MP again, backdash and either jump in Heavy or crouching HP) and corner combos (mostly Passion Press, crouching MP, then V-Trigger/call Nadeshiko and jump Heavy, toward HP, cr.MP then walk under or bait them into thinking you walked under) that lead to 50/50 setups. Bitch-made scrubs complain about this shiz. But a lot of doods have 50/50 shiz like Karin and Laura but the scrubbies don’t complain about them nearly as much for some reason.

resets by your boy.

Are you a troll account?

damm another on a ignore list

Not much going on here, huh ?

Yea, people are too hyped with June update to give poor Mika any love.

Do you guys tend to go for guaranteed damage in some matchups? I see myself going mostly for resets every chance I get on all my matchups and I just want to see how everyone else determines what they go for on the offensive with Mika.

Yea, guaranteed damage is what I go for when I notice the opponent isn’t eating my resets. Sometimes they are just good at mind games and won’t let you fuck around unpunished.
