R.I.P. Texas Street Fighter: 1999-2007

Thats actually why I didn’t attend.
I originally had plans on showing up and supposedly I heard others going as well, but after seeing it was a week after showdown, no way I could’ve done that.

Also, it seems like the tournament itself was not really advertise correctly.
In other words, the link to the Austin regionals could’ve been posted in most of the active town topics. That could’ve gotten people’s attention.

I think the only reason I saw the Austin regionals topic was because I just randomly saw it when looking thru the Tournament Event thread when trying to find a date to advertise my tournament in June.
And of course people would know about Showdown. Once word on showdown’s date is said, people will spread the word.

I dunno about the scene dying at all. My tournaments seem fine, and the last tournament in Brownsville turned out quiet nice for a last minute notice.

To be completely honest with you, I heard very little about this, and even now I’m pretty surprised this tournament even existed. It’s not to say that the tournament wasn’t important, but that somehow or another it just seemed to get lost in everything else that was going on.

I think it’s unfortunate that you think the turnout to this particular tournament is a definitive sign of the death of Texas SF, because I really think that either it was a bad time to have a tournament, or the information regarding it wasn’t very will spread. I just don’t understand how it’s possible that I seriously didn’t even know about this tournament until I read this thread.

You warned us about that, and I definitely understand why you couldn’t make it. Again, to those frustrated with the timing or lack of advertising, I was just concerned about the few that said they were coming and didn’t.

The more I read this thread the more it sounds like that yall r just being bitches cause no one showed up to ur tourney. Wake up some ppl had finals others had problems of their own. I personally checked the Austin tourney thread b4 I went and knew the tourney was going to be small and not worth going. But I still would have went. Now looking @ this thread makes me glad that I didnt go cause niggas on here be bitchin about stupid shit. If u want to throw a tourney fine. Just dont be mad when no one shows up. If I remember correctly last regional pz had was only 3 marvel teams u dont here them bitchin. Next time throw ur tourney @ a time not around a tourney that most of Tx is going too. Or even b4 and call it a regional and a last chance warmup. But quit all this goddamn random bitchin. Also I hear ur tourney attendance has been sketchy so stfu. Cant even go to a tourney in your hometown equals trash.

I may have been out of the tournament scene for a while now, but it’s usually not good practice to hold a tournament a week after a tournament that attracts out-of-towners in the same state. People usually make plans on other things the week before or the week after, suffer from tournament burnout, or misc. issues like school Finals.

None of the people who said they were coming were at Showdown Championships?! Since everyone in Houston hates Planet Zero/AM, there should have been a huge group of people in Austin yesterday!

the godfather has spoken

Jake is cool:lol:

<–Had to work. I want to start traveling more for these tournys after I get my future living condition settled. Hopefully starting next week I’ll be over!

Uhm… Hsien and I got into a car accident in Houston so we couldn’t make it. But we made it to PZ though! Support PZ and all of it’s glory~!

^your av makes me nauseous

I HAD EVERYTHING READY TO GO TO THAT TOURNAMENT

but they changed the date for this weekend when I got a freaking test
the original date was great for me but the new one screw me ove

texas scene is everything but dead
I dont think that all scene in texas is only represented by Houston and Austin

last tournament on corpus christi gathered 24 people for 3s
a few weeks ago Battle at the border gahered a lo of people as well and hat was in bville
this should be a wakeup call for the scene and both south and north texas should get together.

edit:

San Antonio Tourney (May 19??)
I wanna go
where can I find info

LoL@ dallas casual city.

Adam to be fair dallas doesn’t even have much of a gaming scene left. I mean I have to drive half the distance of Dallas to Austin just to get good practice time in. With anyone. And believe me I was trying to convince Campbell to go, but no one wanted to really go unfortunately, and the tournament just kinda snuck up on me. People can say “oh it was bad timing” and what not, but it’s not like you can pick and choose any weekend for tournaments any more. It seems like every weekend from here until Evo worlds is some sort of “major”.

A lot of the posts in the tournament thread from what I read weren’t actually people say they were going, but more of I can’t go because of “xxx” be it finals, or the de la hoya fight or it being right after showdown.

Please don’t be discouraged because of one bad tournament turnout. Adam, I know you have been right there with me when this has happened before and it’s difficult but hey roll with the punches. Please don’t take what some of the Dallas people have to say to heart, a lot of it is just crazy sarcasm that always takes place in the Unblockable/Dallas thread. DFW isn’t some crazy hardcore group of gamers any more, we are just sad because we now are probably the worst city in professional sports history.

Dallas is having a tournament last weekend of the month, I would love to see anyone come, but please don’t make it a point to unattend as some sort of revenge for this unfortunate turnout of the Austin regional.

^^ i’d have to second that. ^^

(curls back into the corner and plays ST, with breaks from GW)

 wtf another one? That poor BMW.

rental this time i believe

SF dead in TX?

And before I say anything. Ill answer a common question before it gets asked. Yes I have contributed to the scene here in TX I was the tournament director of Battle at the Border which was a huge success. So i have done something about it.

I ran Battle at the Border back in April, which drew over 60+ players. This tournament had MVC2/3S/SSBM/Slash/ST/T5DR and each tournament made a bracket. Sure some games had more then others but that is to be expected. And to my and every one elses surprise our normal game scene (SF,GG,T5) outnumbered the Smash scene. This tournament even drew some big names. Crow showed up as did argueabley the 2 best Smash players in TX Caveman and Rob$. I still have the spreadsheet of the registrants and the brackets for proof.

This tournament was a tournament for players by players. All the people who helped me run it has been a supporter of the scene for quite some time now. In fact to show how much of a success this tournament was ALL THE EQUIPMENT that I used was brought by the players themselves. TVs, consoles, and games were all brought by the individual players, again I have proof in the threads which lists the equipment brought by who. I asked for some help and the players all rose to the challenge. The tournament was a success because the players made it a success. The community came together and pulled it off. And to that I thank them very much.

Oh and just for the record reason I didnt go to Austin was due to the date change. The original date was okay but the date change was rather short notice I didnt even know about the original date till the middle of april and then the date got switched last minute. This sucked for me since my summer classes start this coming week and my money went towards paying that and to top it off my car went into the shop and whatever money i had left went towards that, I had a short in some wiring and my cooling fans stopped working causing my car to over heat very quickly. Shit happens.

The scene is not dead and the proof is in my tournament. It ran smooth, 60+ people, and the COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE rose when a challenge was presented. Im am trying for a Battle at the Border II so I guess you can say Im still trying to do something about it.

-DJ-

The Texas scene is far from dead.
If anything, it truly is growing.

Check out what Killy has done for the Corpus scene.
Once an almost dead scene, now its really easy to hit up Corpus for 3S casuals. And it even looks like the old MvC2 guys are going back to the arcades.

man this thread is trash… someone close it.

and just to add a little something… i was going to attend the austin tourney… im good friends with Shin and he told me about it a long time ago… so i already have THAT weekend off at work. then he came up last weekend and cuz i dont look at the tourney threads all the time after i get my dates planned… i didnt know it changed till like last saturday when he came up here for me to install a p360 in his stick and play some games.

this was just a bad date thats all. nuff said.

they were probably at home on srk complaining about something they are going to do nothing about.
