R.I.P. Texas Street Fighter: 1999-2007

uhh… why wouldnt UT people show up, its not like its far away for them if they UT students…

Then why did you mention that you had finals? Now you’re saying you didn’t attend because it was too far away. Sounds like you weren’t coming no matter what.

New rule: you are only allowed to reply if you supported the local Texas scene by attending the long-planned Austin Regional.

Seriously, how stupid can you be?

I already knew the turnout would be bad after the rescheduling if you missed my post in the events thread, but if you really want to know why, it’s not hard to use some logic and figure it out for yourself.

If you schedule a tournament one week after a major, lets see what happens. Most every player that travels frequently in Texas went to AM, now they won’t go to a regional 3+ hours away for financial/work/fatigue related issues. So now a big portion is gone. Now with those guys not going, most people carpool, especially now with such high gas prices, others won’t go as well because the lack of decent transportation. Finals/fight just make things worse. The tournament is already doomed to fail no matter what. The only people you’re going to get are locals genius. That finals comment doesn’t even deserve a response it’s so mind numbingly retarded.

What made the turnout so bad at AM was the real lack of out of town attendance (AM’s fault obviously), their bans, their schedule, their lack of draw for people that will attend the Texas “major” but not really go to regionals.

You just trying to say here that since the turnout for AM wasn’t nearly as good as previous showdowns that all these people should have magically went to this Austin regional that wasn’t even advertised much at all so that only people who frequently check the tournaments and events section would see it? Nice logic champ.

I was disappointed with the turnout, but I think there were a lot of factors. Being around the time of finals and a week after Showdown were major issues. Hopefully Austin won’t be discouraged by one regional.

Is this the kind of reasoning you manage to come up with? Why did I even bother wasting my time replying to your trash. Please, don’t even reply to my previous post, it’s not worth it.

By the way, who the hell are you to call out anyone? You talk shit to people who actually do travel. When’s the last time you went to a Dallas regional? If you were apart of the Austin/Houston crowd that went to Dallas before then you can talk shit. You really are the last person that should beable to make a thread titled RIP Texas.

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. This is why Planet Zero should be in charge of running tournaments.

you must be joking…

Which one were you at the Austin regional again?

He was one of those guys that went to AM idiot.

So you were in Austin supporting the scene then, right?

No I was one of those guys that went to AM and isn’t going to travel another 3 1/2 hours the weekend after. Is this the best you can do? Whatever point you’re trying to get across, whatever you’re trying to accomplish, just give it up. There is no hope for you.

No rules on the internet kid, I did go to EVO South, which was held in austin, but you are right, I avoided Showdown like the plague, as did almost everyone else it seems.

Get over yourself, there is a thread were all this is going down already, you were just to lazy and stupid to find it and are also an attention whore (you didn’t really say you weren’t, now did you?).

EDIT: Everyone really should just stop posting in this thread, including me, can’t feed the trolls or they stick around.

Jake, we weren’t expecting a massive turnout. At the very least, we were expecting the people that said they were going to go to be there. People knew about it. Several people, many of which from Houston, said they were going to come. Information given to us basically said that they flaked out. Even a few Austinites bailed for no good reason. Regardless of the poor timing of the event, people said they were coming and didn’t.

In regards to Dallas regionals, seriously, shut the fuck up. I was going to Dallas regionals years before you ever showed up. They started sucking a long time ago, well before turnout was a problem. They did what they could to keep the scene going, but a large many of the people there don’t have the energy to keep up with it anymore. I gave Dallas regionals a shot several years in a row, which is more then you’ve done for us.

There’s a point to all of this that you’re missing. Many posters have been complaining about PZ for months now, stating that they’re hurting our community as a whole. The same people don’t seem to want to make even a slight effort to combat something that they’re bothered by. All they had to do is show up and be supportive. Because small tournaments like this receive no support, even from the people saying they’re going to be there, Planet Zero will continue to dominate the Texas scene by default, even when many people don’t want them to.

First off it does u no good to be mad about the low turnout for the tourney. I did not know about it till the day of showdown. Then when I found out about it ppl told me two different dates. Had two reasons why me gene and rudy didnt come and that was got paid my money from showdown too late to get my stickers for my car. Also it was one week after showdown. So yeah didnt go. If u want to go by texas tournaments then look @ the past brownville tourney that had a good turnout. Or look @ the upcoming Trashday 3 tourney that is coming up. Also about 8 or 9 of us would love to come to some of ur other tourneys provided it is posted up and not around the time of another major.

I’ll try and get confirmation ASAP, but I think we’re having a tournament at Gamelot on May 19th (San Antonio). Expect the usual fighters ; 3S, CvS2, Tekken : DR. MvC2 has struggled with having enough people tho

I am not mad or angry about the low turnout. I am simply pointing out to everyone else, the players, the results of their decisions.

SRK isn’t an RPG dude, you don’t level up for posting the same message twice.

Yeah I was going to go to the Austin regional, until the date got changed. Should have made it after SBO or something, any other date besides this weekend would have been better. I even went to the crappy San Antonio tournament and told Carnevil/Creecy about this tournament, but this was before the date got changed.

although the turnout was low…the players that DID show up are top tx players in each of the games that were to be played in the tournament. if you play and love the game for the competition…you shouldve made the effort to make it out to this one. it’s a shame that the quality of the competition was so high yet barely anyone showed up to try to hold their own against these players.

Exactly. We aren’t angry. Poonage just likes being whimsical. I simply think it’s vital that the Texas crew pays more attention to their actions and how it affects the scene. Turnout has been dangerously low to anything that isn’t a PZ tournament, and even their turnout is less then amazing.

I had a final at 2pm today, I’ll be in Austin next week.
