I want to thank Rick for bringing us so many laughs and good times. I’m sure he felt the same way about us.
If anyone would like to call in on Wednesday, I will be joining Bunkei and Skisonic on Alphaism radio to give anyone who wants it the opportunity to call in and talk about Dasrik and what his presence in the community and all of our lives means to you. For instructions on how to join through Skype on Wednesday 1/6/10.
yo i have to give my condolensces to his family and friends. we talked a few times here and there but from what i gathered he was pretty chill. RIP Dasrik.
I am still shocked and in disbelief with Rick leaving us. He was a little man with a huge character that didnt let his poor health get in the way of living life on his own terms. Rick was a great guy who alongside his brother Jose, pushed to unite players around the IE to get together for some games and some good times.
Although me and Rick didnt start off on the right foot in our agsf2 days, him and Jose made it a point to invite me to Pentland for some weekly casuals, that spoke volumes in terms of his character. A person who is willing to put aside silly differences for the better of everyone is truly great in my eyes. Rick was very mindful of everyone’s needs when we played and made sure that the lone CvS2/3S player would get his games in a sea of MvC2 warriors. He was a fascinating guy who would share tidbits of wisdom that were a godsend when realized. A sage who was wise beyond his years on the SRK boards and a friend who enjoyed sharing a few laughs as well.
I had last seen Rick at James Games late last year, even though I had heard he was very sick, that night he was in great spirits, laughing away on the MvC2 machine and owning people on 3S. We talked for a bit, with him catching up with me (it has been years since Ive seen Rick) and me trying to convince him that E Honda was a force in SF4. He introduced me to his sister and his other buddies and we both said our goodbyes before going on our separate ways.
Even though Rick was known for his well written diatribes and putdowns on the internet, in person he was a really friendly guy who was willing to reach outside his comfort zone and unite all of us in Team Rico. He didnt win big tournament accolades or snatched the title from Daigo in SF4, but it is very evident by the outpour of love and condolences on here, that all of SRK knew how special our little warrior was.
You fought the good fight Rick, youve earned your laurels and may you rest on them like the champion that you are. Rest in peace my good friend.
Man, this brings back a lot of memories. It really sucks that I have to see him again when he’s gone. Rick and Jose were definitely the key players that kept me playing cvs2, 3s, mvc2, st, whatever. They introduced me to grimy Wendy’s double stack, cheap ass nuggets, and really strange humor. The thing that stood out most for me about Rick was the way he talked. It wasn’t a lisp but it would always make me laugh. From arguing about mvc2 theory fighter to parrying the shit out of his N-Honda until he got pissed, I will never forget those memories. I just watched over the ‘RiCo’ mvc2 tactics video and one part made me laugh so damn hard…the fuckin instant overhead with iceman with the cyclops assist. That shit will make me laugh forever. R.I.P. Rick.
R.I.P. to another fallen player in our community. May he be remembered for not only the plyer he was, but also for the person and friend he was for so many people in his community. He will be missed as all of the hommies that have gone home to glory.
Even though I have never met him or anything, I’m finding it hard to accept that one of SRK’s household names is gone now. I genuinely enjoyed a great number of his posts.
RIP Dasrik
and my condolences to everyone who knew him.
Not sure what to say except that a irreplaceable member of our community will still be in our hearts no matter what. I would have like for him to keep on fighting the good fight like my sister who also had to deal with dialysis and what not, but you never know what crazy things the human body will do. May his family be blessed with peace and prosperity and the strength to deal with their loss.
a loss of a family member, friend, or even a peer hurts. i didn’t know dasrik personally but from what i know and heard about him it shows taht he was a great asset and beloved member of this community. everyone should take this time to reflect on the good times and don’t dwell in the negative. remembering someone for who were and the smiles and knowledge that they brought to this world is the key. dasrik’s work and contributions will live on and his influence will live on. may he rest in peace.
He was one of the few people on SRK that shared a liking to one must fall 2097. He was a guy that was known to flame a lot but when he sat down and typed something non flame related it was always on point and informative. I keep remembering that avatar of his that was some guy in all white that made me go “Yep, that’s Dasrik all right”. It’s a weird feeling. I never knew him in real life but knew him since I first hopped on this site in 01. May he rest in peace.
Wow, I’m truly in utter disbelief. Ever sence I’ve been a member I looked forward to reading Dasrik’s replies on any heated topic. I’m just shocked. My deepest condolences to his family… I sincerely hope you are at peace.
As someone who only communicated with Dasrik on IRC i’m for some reason very saddened by his passing. He has in the past of course joked about his death in the forums and some of that carried over to IRC however I find myself nearly in tears because…I don’t know why.
Maybe it’s because him joking about it made it seem like he wasn’t in pain and so it seemed like he had a long life left…and now it’s gone.
R.I.P. Dasrik, I wish I could’ve known you better.
