Hey Joe.
Your brother was someone I really looked up to as far as this community goes. I’ve been chatting to him since ‘97 when MSF came out, on Migg’s old forum. I really like the way he reasoned things, and always backed up his views with solid rationale. I remember one of the first tournament blogs/diaries I ever read was from him. I think it was his very first tournament, he went from Moreno Valley over to SHGL to play MVC1, and gave a solid acount of himself with his very own teams (Double Hulk, or’Gammani’ as he wittily called them, and some Shadow Lady team). I used to really like that Migg’s forum, and I was very grateful for all the work he did making the new board after Migg’s site went down.
Ironic that SRK killed that board really. Anyway, Dasrik was always one of those guys I imagined I’d hit up if/when I come over to the US for Evo or whatever. From reading a very old (and now offline AFAIK) blog he wrote that was not fighting game related, I knew about his health problems and that some aspects of his life frustrated him. He struck me as one of those guys who’s intelligence over reaches them and impacts the rest of their life- like he found it hard to come to terms with teh fact that his physique didn’t match what he could do with his mind.
He was a great poster and someone I always paid attention to. I could tell way before this thread that you guys were close just from how he’d mention you in his posts. It was cool how you guys would always root for the low tiers- for ages I didn’t know anybody other than Dasrik that thought Shadow Lady could compete at top level MVC1, and as for you going with double Wolvie in MVC2- well, respect.
Thanks for sharing all this with us, it must still be very raw. If it’s not too much to ask I’d love to see a pic and/or match videos of your bro playing. Never seen him before, Ever!

So sad. This guy was so cool. My overriding memory will always be from back in 1907-2000 posting on Migg’s marvel board. When teh site closed down, Dasrik re-created the board, complete with the avatars and everything so we could continue posting. Way back then he had some strong and unpopulist opinuions, like Lilith being high tier in MVC1, and he’d always fight his corner.
He was definitely one of the guys I’d have made sure to hit up if I was over in the US for a big tournament like Evo, after talking to a cat online for like, 12 years you want to meet up, play some games and hang out. It’s quite upset me to hear he’s passed on.
Dunno how many of you guys knew, but Dasrik kept a blog that was strictly non-fighting game related. This must have been, what, 5 yeears back? Dunno if it’s still online. I rememeber in one post he made, he talked about a girl he liked from school, a really pretty, popular girl. He really conveyed well what it’s like to really dig a chick but know deep down she’s not going to go for you. Anyway, he’d heard that the girl had got married and was aexpecting a baby. The whole post culminated in him essentially saying how it made him smile to think she was doing well and things had gone her way.
I remember thinking what a top fucking guy he was, to write something like that. Not even the slightest hint of biterness or envy like you might expect from just about anyone.

Jesus, I log onto SRK and see THIS. Dasrik has been around as long as I can remember. I really don’t know what to say. Rest in peace, friend.

Wow, I remember when he said a while back he was going to stop taking his medicine and see what happened. I hope this wasn’t the result or reason for it. I think he even actually predicted his future death in a post. Sad.
