saw patrice for the first time back in 2000 at carolines in nyc. he was opening for tracy morgan. i think tracy is funny in skits and sitcoms, but his standup sucked since it was all obvious sex jokes. that’s just my preference, but patrice had me and my friend crying from laughter. i said “good shit” to patrice after the show and he reached out to shake my hand. not making any point, just wanted to share since he’s gone.

FUCK! I loved this guy’s stuff, him, Jim Norton, Rich Vos, and Nick Dipaolo were the reason why I watched Tough Crowd with Colin Quin. I fucking hate Colin Quin and all of his material on SNL, his stand up is pretty decent though.
Hating on him for being successful and hating on his style is two totally different animals. I won’t hate anyone for getting bank, but his comedy is dry, and I haven’t heard anything from anybody with a sense of humor that has anything good to say about it.
I first saw patrice on tough crowd where i instantly became a fan. Patrice and Giraldo were my favorite comedians on the show. It is a shame that they are gone.
I never said he was amazing, I was just saying it sucks that he would turn a discussion about a dead comedian into bashing one his friends. When i said tight I ment like friends not like good. And bashing dane cook is like bashing Sinbad or Bill Cosby. There always has to be the guys who pander to the masses for the purists to really shine.
*Not saying Dane is anywhere near the level of Top5 DoA Bill Cosby.
I don’t really think I was disagreeing or misunderstanding you here. In fact, I think this argument is probably best dropped immediately. I don’t want to throw salt up in here.
But I will state that early Bill Cosby was quite good. That’s just me. Always thought the 9th Street Bridge and his Revenge material was classic.

I had no idea Greg Giraldo was dead. I was wondering what happened to that guy… Guess I haven’t been keeping up. It’s a shame because he was actually pretty funny as well. 
I just heard about this and came here cause I figured a thread would be made. I just found out about him a couple months ago randomly searching comedies on netflix…funniest shit I’ve ever seen and he just seemed so down to earth, real sad to see him go even tho I never knew much about him.
