RIP. The only famous person RIP I’ve ever given.
I had a Haro Blammo back then (bike he rode for 96-98 seasons) and I still have a Haro Mirra 540. Among other bikes

is that orange bike a DK General Lee? Damn, are they all yours?! By any chance you got a Standard Trail Boss or T1 laying around that you wouldn’t mind sending my way if I pay shipping? I haven’t rode for a while, I picked up a Fit complete a couple years ago thinking I’d rehab my knee through riding park, that didn’t do shit besides make my knee worse hahaha. I’d like to maybe build up one last bike, preferably one that I grew up drooling over such as the names I’ve listed.
Yeah, my collection. Orange bike is a 98 Schwinn Pro Stock 3. I do have a DK Legend tho.
And no I dont have a Standard, but I might be getting them to make me a custom frame. You planning to ride this bike?
Yeah, probably try to ride some trails if I can find some that aren’t fucking massive, or a pump track. But it will be mostly be more of a garage furniture piece than riding everyday like I used to.
If you have something going on body-wise I wouldnt ride a trail bike of that era. As Im sure you know…tanks. There’s some exceptions…
DK General Lee (as you mentioned)
GT Fueler
And a few chromoly race bikes from that era are good to jump on:
Every other DK (Pro, Legend) - Same as General Lee, very slightly less beef.
Schwinn Super Stock - Brian Foster used these and his Blue Falcon to championships. (I actually have one of Foster’s Prototype Falcons)
Most full chromoly race frames can jump, and as you said you’re not going big, you’re not going to need the heft of a Trailboss or S&M Dirtbike.
Build up the Standard for a wall ornament. Build something lighter to ride.
The trail boss was standard’s “liter” freestyle models between the S.T.A., Lengthy, TAO, etc. http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/standard_bykes/26133
It wasn’t beefed up like the S.T.A. and was made to fly off dirt jumps. I guess the only other bike to be even more forgiving on the back was the 125r or what ever it’s called. I had a 2000 S.T.A. as my first freestyle bike as my friends kept destroying their race bikes at the local jumps and I started learning about what pegs did besides give people rides or help with wheelies. Back in those days, the bulkier the bikes were, the more it could take a beating. I think I still have a Profile Black jack sprocket laying around in one of my rubbermaid tubs that was at my parents for a while. LOL that sprocket could fit a fucking motorcycle chain which some of my friends used hahahaha. I think my S.T.A. weighed close to 42lbs, and I remember this kid that rode pipe in 2000 had a Eastern Hercules, that weighed 60lbs! Here’s a pic of my last bike I built up, which was one that I didn’t like compare to all my previous ones, even my first bmx, a Trek Sub head rode better than this:
I ended up giving this bike away, it had clearance issues with the 3 piece cranks and rear wheel allignment. I think it was a faulty Sunday model.
You guys remember those Auburn BMX bikes, they were like neon green

Then it sounds like the Trailboss was about old generation Dirtbike Specs. I hadnt tried a Standard that wasnt 40+ without 4 pegs, and a beefy 48 triple wall wheelset.
With the new school bikes, its the geometry. You can defintely do some things you just cant do with mid-school heft, but you really do need to get used to that geometry. The rear stays are like usually 13in, which will make you feel squirrely in the air. And you should always ride these things with chain tensioners. This is a carpet piece I built up (like all my bikes but 1 are) and it takes like 3 cranks of the pedals to loosen the back wheel:

Pivoting rear end, made by GT. Usually back end was painted, front was chrome. Oddly enough these are the only GT family bikes I dont like (GT, Dyno, Powerlite, Robinson, Auburn)
I can’t believe this guy died. I remember him on BMX commercials and stuff.
RIP Dave.
Not buying suicide on this one.
meh not like its Rodney Mullen or something
