So this might be a dumb question but here goes. I’m looking to get into fighting games and I’m really starting from scratch. I don’t own any consoles and I’m not sure where to start. With USF4 coming out is it worthwhile to pick up an xbox360 and start with AE and continue from there? Is there going to be a big competitive title early on on the next gen systems?
You could always play SF on PC. Otherwise, there isn’t much of a lineup of fighters for next gen yet (the only next gen exclusive I can think of is Killer Instinct), so people will be playing games on the current consoles for quite a while.
Edit: If you buy a copy, I recommend somewhere that will give you a Steam code. I think it’s still ambiguous how we’ll be able to upgrade to Ultra since GFWL is being phased out.
I would say 360 is more active than PC, but I still agree. If you are new to the genre and only interested in games that are available on PC, you should buy them on PC, and hold off on investing in a console. It’s just not worth spending hundreds of dollars in order to learn the fundamentals of the game, which you can do perfectly well on any platform.
The PC version of this game is cracking with plenty of players in Endless battle and Ranked, you won’t be disappointed. But just like Dinoraur stated above, no one’s even sure if you will be able to upgrade for 15 bucks straight to Ultra, I still have faith though.
Guilty Gear Xrd is the only big game i can think of coming to next gen, oh… and errr… Killer Instinct…
Don’t worry USF4 is going to be played for a couple more years…
but this is a great time to pick up a used console and copy of ae for pennies. If you make friends it will be easier to take your used console to events than your pc.
Can you send a link where they confirm this upgrade path is available for PC too?
Some guy asked on Twitter what about PC players, or maybe he asked Combofiend, and all he could say was stay tuned on the PC port cause it might arrive a little later than the console versions. But they are pushing to get it on the same day or around there.
Like I said, no one knows for sure, but they’re dropping GFWL for Steamworks, so there’s a good chance that buying the game through Steam now means an upgrade later. I’d just be worried about buying a retail, boxed copy of AE right now, since there’s no real proof of purchase outside GFWL.
