Alright, that title might be a bit misleading. Let me explain:
I’ve switched from pad to stick about a month ago (give or take), I’ve been going to a local with my stick, and practiced here and there.
I played really well (considering the time I put into the game, my play was fantastic that weekend).
I’d say I’ve grown a lot mentally due to the local experience and advice.
However, here’s the thing that confuses me.
When I play ranked online, I seem to not progress on the ladder at all.
All of my previous sessions have left me at the exact same range of 1350-1500LP, even before I started playing better after the local.
Am I simply improving at the same rate as the others or how does this work?
I’m not necessarily complaining, I could be higher up if I played better, and I lost matches due to stupid reasons on my end.
It just feels weird to see a lot of personal progress, but no progress on the ladder.
U might just be better at playing offline, lag no matter how small can affect ur play even if u don’t realise it.
If ur having trouble in those ranks then maybe ur not as gd as u think (don’t mean 2 sound like a dick when I say that). It really isn’t difficult 2 get out of the bronze ranks if ur decent at this game it mostly just boils down 2 AA and punishing.
Post some match videos if u can and that will help us 2 see where ur going wrong
There is lag going on even when you don’t realize it. You can be a few frames behind your opponent even if it’s not teleporting or stuttering severely. Fighting games are so quick and twitch based. If you’re frames behind your opponent, he attacks you, and you attempt to block, it won’t register to the game in time because you’re behind. Ever get hit online and think to yourself “WTF I blocked that”? That’s what bad netcode and lag does. A seasonsed SF player will tell you not to take SF5’s online too seriously. The netcode isn’t good enough to judge between good or bad players at times. You play better offline because there is zero lag and when you react block an opponents attack, it happens quickly and in real time. Keep playing locally and just play online for fun. Hopefully Capcom improves the netcode. In the mean time make sure you’re on a hard wired connection and if you can don’t have other people streaming shiz in the house while you’re playing. Good luck dude!
Oh there’s so many times where I thought I broke the block string but in reality I got counter-hitted
Locals are not happening too often. Even if they were weekly, I could not afford to drive 3 hours to Munich every week just to play Street Fighter, I’m sorry.
I love playing locally, but ranked is the only option I have to practice regularly:/ no players near me that I know of.
Thanks, I’ll try to make it work somehow. Next tournament I enter I won’t go 0-2 without winning a round!
Just forget about your online rank. I know its hard because as people we want recognition. But its unreliable as a gauge on you as a player. All you need to worry about is growing as a fighting game player. Weather or not the game recognizes that is meaningless. You only get a true result when you play offline.
I use online play to practice certain things. I can win a whole lot more when I just play to win. But when I play to focus on getting better at a certain technique my win ratio drops and my online ranking growth goes nowhere. But when I take that effort I have put in and go to offline events, no matter how few and far between, I always do better than the last.
