Question about online play...

I have no slowdown or lag whatsoeever as long as nobody does anything before the round actually begins…but I’m noticing more and more, the other guy (always a Jin player) keeps hitting start to skip right past synching and the stage intro, so my inputs are lagged and game plays slow…is this an intentional thing, or do they not know what it does to the other player?

Doesn’t happen to me even when people skip things, even when playing against people in other countries, including Japan.

The way the lag compensation works, based on my best guess as a programmer, is that it drops frames between the two then uses what the software knows should be there to draw the rest in and keep the flow of data as minimal as possible, and I assume it uses the opening bits as a check to make sure the frames are in sync before critical input data comes into play.

If it can’t drop enough frames before the fight starts, it likely stops trying to compensate and just goes with whatever it could get to to keep from introducing other problems as it now has to transmit lots of input data and that obviously gets priority.

Best thing you can do is make sure you don’t have any downloads running (obviously) or make sure you router is set up properly and that things aren’t going through a firewall. If nothing like that is the problem, you’ll probably need to upgrade your net connection. I don’t know what it takes to run BB full out, but I have mine on a 10Mbps Cable connection and it runs fine so long as I’m not hitting my bandwidth cap.

…well Firstly, you CAN’T skip the synch; it’s not possible; otherwise, you couldn’t play each other.

I’ve noticed all intros up right up until the announcer says “ACTION” is super slow, but the game catches up and plays normally right after. Just about everyone I play, including myself, skips the intros; never notice this lag of input, I generally start attacking right at the start of the round. (Ragna) so iunno, maybe your internet is flipping out.
