Question about JLF springs

This might not end up being a tech question but, I figured it’s where I would start

I have a madcatz TE and I used to be able to use it just fine but, lately I’ve noticed moves either not coming out or the wrong move coming out. Sometimes I’ll even jump when I swear I’m trying to do something like a sonic boom and I didn’t think my execution was that bad. So I assumed it was me and I went into training mode to force myself to relearn everything because I figured I must have gotten lazy along the way. This was when I noticed that 1 or so out of 10 times when I let go of the stick it will spring back into the opposite direction of where it was far enough to actually activate the opposite microswitch.

Obviously when you “flick” the stick it can get enough spring to bounce the opposite way but I’m merely letting go of it and letting it go back to neutral on it’s own. I’m not really flicking it, just letting go.

My question is: Is it normal for JLF springs to start doing this after you break them in a little? Or was it always like this and I have just gotten better therefore I move the stick faster now which leads to more “springing”? Is it something even more simple like my fingers sticking to the balltop and when I let go of it it’s moving the stick towards where ever my fingers are pulling off towards?

It has really been wreaking havoc on my gameplay and I don’t know if it has something to do with my technique(which is what’s confusing because it was never a problem before, now it happens all the time) or if this is something that happens after parts get broken in? Is there something I should lube or tighten? Or is it something I compensate for with a different or modified grip?

Anyone ever have any similar problems?

Here is a picture of what happens if I try to do something like a hadouken:

It springs back to the right when I let go of it after moving it left.

So is it me or the stick

If it’s me why wasn’t it happening until now

If it’s the stick why doesn’t it do it all the time

How long have you had the stick? and how long since it started to do this?

I’ve been complaining about missing moves for about a week

Had the stick since March 1 I think

Called deflection; normal.

if I were you, id try and get my hands on another stick, friends ect and see if its doing the same thing, if not then there could be something wrong with im guessing the pivot, or spring or maybe something got loose

I had a feeling it was normal but, I wanted to be sure before I started changing my technique

Found this: http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/attributes_brands.html#DEFLECTION

Any suggestions for other sticks which have less deflection? Sanwa JLFs are already pretty delicate, can’t imagine they’re are any more sensitive sticks but, it’s worth asking.

All I have are JLFs to test but, I could use one of the ones that has been used less and see if the problem is the same or not. I think JDM explained my problem though.

It happens. Not as bad as with a super-springy Happ stick or similar, but it happens with the JLF too. Just something you need to get used to and keep under control. When you go to neutral you have to either ease it in there slightly rather than just releasing it from full-throw, or just keep part of your hand on the stick. If you really prefer that playstyle, you might mess around with some spring options to find something that works better. I think with almost any setup you can trigger the opposite switch, but you might find a way to make it less likely.

Are any of the other japanese stick models like the JLW or LS-32 or LS-56(or others) less likely to have deflection?
