C3 Rugal B. (Boxer) Vs Dr.Chaos (Ken) ()
LOL at the ending - you got off so lucky! Even you were holding toward the corner hoping to block. Then after a delay - everyone was like… whaaaa? Quick… PUNISH!
Looks just like the boxer match-up I have against this one guy. So hard to break guard from a frontal assault. Near impossible. They block… and if you try to tick you need to do it from point blank range or you’ll probably get jabbed… and hit confirmed into a nasty combo. Anyone that uses boxer… will know how easy it is to hit-confirm into juggling into a ULT.
Only weakness Boxer has is that his only wake-up option against cross-ups is to DEFEND. Against wake-up DASH RUNNING Boxers… I like to TAT.ex. They can’t dash escape that!
Lol I’m a lucky guy. :karate:
^^ Dr. Chaos Collection - Available in select stores for a limited time only.
So I just recently got to G1, and this is the second match I played. It is also the first time I’ve used some new recording stuff. I took gunslinger’s advice to heart, and have changed my play quite a bit. (although I still need to work on AA’s… ALOT) Watching some of the vids of japanese players has given me alot of ideas… so I think I’m making some progress.
Let me know!

I wish you were on PSN I’d love to play you man. Im at 12k GP and nearing the end of G2, I need to give myself a weekend to get that last 3k to G1. Is there finally enough people out there in G1 to play? And dude I know I’m not expert or anything but you play almost to my same strengths and the AA is the only thing from keeping your ken from pushing the threshold. You had 4-5 opportunities in MY opinion to shoryuken his ass out the air! Good job nonetheless man props on G1!
Thanks! G1 is alot of fun, all the matches I played were challenging and definitely interesting. The only downside is that I had to wait quite a bit longer to find them. G2 had a ton of people and G1 is the complete opposite, but the wait is definitely worth it.
Once we get our AA game squared away, things should go alot better!
^^AA is the thing to learn…reflexes have to be on point. Thats what Im working on as well. Cant wait til I hit G1, I simply dont have the time to sit and play that much. Not to mention I started 2 months late on the PS3 and now Im w/o a stick on the 360 at the moment.
It’s funny, whenever I play for fun with friends, my AA is really good. But when I’m playing seriously and on edge, my AA is terrible. I think I just need to relax more, and not look so hard for openings to start my offense. Because really, hitting an AA shoryuken IS an opening to start your offense.
Oh well, needs more practice!
true about playing relaxed…the other night w/o paying attention to the other guys GP or what match I was on, and playing calm, I won more than 80% of my games, as soon as I start lookin at GP’s, I dont play well. Look at that match I posted maybe a page or 2 back against this other Ken, and you’ll see why AA’s are needed, I fucked that match up big time. I let dude jump in uncontested A LOT. I feel so ashamed.
WOW. You are playing a lot more refined than from the old “monkeysarefun”.
That was a good solid Ken there. Ryu ran out of ideas on what to do - he was looking to predict your f+mk and c.mk pokes and he tried to DP+lp. But you weren’t spamming them like a crazy person but utilizing your tools at the right time.
And when you got into position and knew he was stumped and second guessing… you made your assaults and attempted your set-ups with favorable success rate.
When you had the life lead and he was near his end… you didn’t rush like a maniac… you pulled back and waited for him to mess up.
I still personally think that a good Ryu player would have smashed you But I also believe you are taking the right approach to be able to play at those higher levels. You seem to be “thinking”. So when you do get smashed… you’ll be able to sit back and reflect… why and how you lost… and how you can improve.
Your defense is lacking.
Your offense is good.
All of this is improved through experience and practice. So don’t fret.
Things to work on…
You are taking a much more tactical and defensive approach… waiting for opportunities - which is very good. Start working on FA tactics. It is the hardest and longest thing to master - so best start early
Ken’s FA range is… shit. But FA is another tool in the shed. A very useful one when used for the right jobs.
TIPS:
FA tactics will give you more tools, set-ups and defensive/offensive options against more match-ups.
Thanks Gunslinger. After my last critiquing and watching some videos of Japanese players, I learned some very important lessons. Mainly that I DONT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE ATTACKING. I also was watching how and when they would start up their offense, and it really helped.
But like you said, now it’s time to work on the defense!
Monkeys good job getting to G1 and your ken seems to be coming along. Seems like after you clean up your defense and add a little more mix up to your get up tactics you’ll be kicking booty in no time. One thing I do have to offer is that don’t forget you can tatsu through FBs when your opponent gets too carried away. Anyway I have a question for Gunslinger. When you talk about FA set up and such, I’m not sure what you mean or I haven’t really seen Ken players utilize FA much. I was playing against Combojack, a so cal ryu tourney player at the arcade yesterday and I noticed that he was really deadly with his FA. Well basically I want an example or even better a video of how Ken players can utilize FA into their style of play.
That guy was the king of ken scrubs. I’d be pissed too just because it’s such a joke to win that or lose that way. Sometimes when DSP loses he whines for no reason, but those complaints were definitely justified and every one of them was totally and undeniably true.
Who are you calling scrub?
… are you really talking about the first vid in this thing? that blackhawkdown person
-_- see you don’t post a response when the thread is like at least 10 pages down. For a sec i thought he called chaos scrub i was like wtf charles…
Ken’s FA range is limited. k-FA will help boost the rage with added risk. FA is a tool that many people forget.
There are two important reasons to keep FA in your mind:
It has limited use with Ken… but it still has a use. Remember ALL your options.

Don’t think of it as something Ken should be using. Think of it as something a Player can use.
You will easily realize its potential and learn its many set-ups when you use other characters, Sakura, Akuma, Ryu, Fei Long, Cammy etc. From what you learn from those characters… you can bring a small part and a competent FA game to Ken.
I’m not Gunslinger (lololo) but the only set place I really hold down FA is after a long blocked poke string, like c.lk c.lp c.lp c.mk or some shit. Or maybe on opponent wakeup to get them to second guess. But in the end it’s really a matter of feeling when your opponent wants to poke; it’s a matter of prediction. Don’t FA close (lol thrown) and like Gunslinger said, don’t AA FA.
Ok after watching the first gameinnsakura vid i saw the set up with the FA dash back to bait the dash punch. I saw that vid more than 10 times and this is the first time i paid attention to that setup… -_-. Thanks gunslinger I understand what you mean by not thinking of it as utilizing FA as Ken but rather in general and what you said about not leaving out any options is very true also.
