Symptom, not source.
Not alot of people know this Kotaku is owned by a small branch of Fox News letting you know.
I’m much more afraid of the increasing Orwellization of western states and people’s willingness to go to controlling others by force as a solution to whatever ills the mass media brings up. Some people having boomsticks is a trifling concern in comparison. (And would be less of one if our society wasn’t basically made to make people feel ill)

Insitutionalized violence in the form of the (police) state is a source, too. The ramdom mass killings are indeed a sympton though.
I don’t know what’s worse: the fact that we’re having to mourn the deaths of several dozen children in Beijing and Connecticut, or that some people are actually self-righteous enough to use this as a platform to pontificate whatever bullshit excuse they can come up with as to why it happened.
The shooter is dead. We likely won’t ever know why it happened, and will drive ourselves insane trying to figure out why. Do not try to make sense of it, and instead focus on whether you can help the grieving people pick up their lives. If you can’t, then shut the hell up and keep your goddamned mouth shut.
Thats a horribly misleading statement, by definition one person wanting chinese food and one person wanting pizza is a conflict. Two people arguing over what to watch on TV is a conflict. Of course an argument over which is the best Final Fantasy game is usually not going to end in gunplay, but what about car accidents and fist fights and cases or wrongful “stand your ground” self defense? you don’t think people will be more likely to shoot first or feel threatened when everyone has a gun? Yes, it will still be well under 1% of human conflict but the number of people killed will still increase dramatically.
I always find it odd that the same people who say everyone should have guns are the same people saying we need to forcibly stop other countries from getting certain weapons. Yes, the scope is larger but the core argument is exactly the same and the same people are on both sides of one argument.
This is very depressing. I can’t imagine what is going through the minds of the victim’s parents; knowing their son or daughter will not be there to celebrate another birthday or Christmas with them.
Jesus Christ. Merry fucking Christmas.
What can you even say to these families after this?
I don’t think there’s anything you can say.
So turn a blind eye to it? Is that what you are saying or should we be able to speak up and try and figure out what the fuck is going on in this world. People say violent crimes are genetic, so they move on with “help the grieving people pick up their lives”. While the parents might find comfort in that, another shooting is bound to happen unless we make sense of it and are more prepared next time. So instead of not trying to figure out why these things happen you insist we don’t? Wrong, scientist have found that violence is absolutely not genetic, but a product of ones environment. Closing our mouths we would have never gotten past that misconception and in turn everyone would think kids grow-up angry and violent.
We have shut our mouths far too long. Time for a paradigm shift
Are you this fucking stupid? I mean its bad enough that instead of lamenting a tragedy this gets turned into a discussion over gun control. But nigga get serious for a second: kick yourself until you get some damn fucking sense. People across various types of culture manage to deal with complicated, emotional and/or stressful situations without resorting to violence or warfare. This happens fucking constantly.
how about this: go run yourself into a brick wall until you think the wall is trying to fuck you. This is the only way to describe how stupid your reply to me was.
Using the fact that there was a mass stabbing in China as evidence for dismissing someones argument for stricter gun laws in the U.S is faulty. Like come on Im sure you are all aware of fallacies and such so just stop. I understand what people are trying to say with gun laws, because honestly they aren’t good enough and the weapon of choice for these mass murders are guns. The gun situation is really bad in the U.S and I don’t know what can be done, but access to weapons designed for killing humans is far too easy.
But something needs to be done about mental health assesments and treatments, too many a time does it become blatantly obvious that someone is not right in the head only when they have been caught after commiting a horrible crime.
TL;DR: I think the problem is not that crazy people can get guns, the problem is that crazy people are crazy and they’re are out and about without any any sort of treatment
It wasn’t that long but Im always getting feedback saying im not concise or “or to the point” enough… damn Uni -.-
Fucking tragedy; worst Friday of 2012. These kids could have been future doctors, teachers, nurses or even the next president. I really hope there is hell for scum like Adam Lanza.

They don’t give a damn
Sometimes I think about the future and wonder what I’d do if I had a daughter. Being a parent, I would try to have her learn as many self-defense techniques as possible, even carry mace or a stun gun when she grows older. However, would that solve anything? I’d feel like I’m contributing to violence despite wanting my children to defend themselves. In my sociology class, we stumbled onto a topic on how at a classmate’s old school, girls would carrying stun guns and literally get into fights. Just the thought of a child being harmed or worse causes me to snap, it really does, but that’s because I have overprotective tendencies.
I cannot imagine the heartbreak of the parents and guardians who have lost their children to such horrific and abominable acts. This whole event is just heartbreaking and upsetting, slaughtering children who could have made this cold and ugly world a much better place, people who could have been something, and all of that was ripped away.
…
What a dumbshit.
I think this should be a higher demand than even gun controls laws IMO.
Honestly China mass stabbing won’t mean much unless you could prove that people with fucking knives can kill more than people who with guns. Or you could prove that gun control won’t saves lives. The whole reason people want gun control is to save lives prevent disasters like this. Same reasons why people think that we shouldn’t have assault weapons/tanks in a public environment, or nukes at all. Gun Control laws don’t ban gun, they regulate them.
But gun control doesn’t get the problem at the root. Look at all the laws we’ve had in place that haven’t done much. If you ban guns, they’ll buy knives, if you ban knives, they’ll use chains. It’s not an issue of the weapon, it’s an issue of the intent. These people are either mentally ill and would snap regardless, or they’re people who feel like they’re in hopeless situations and resort to crime. Anyone who TRULY wants a gun can get one regardless of any law on the books.
Gun control laws are only there to make white people feel safe.
Wrong. People shouldn’t ignore anything, but at the very least they need to get off their fucking soapboxes, wait a goddamn day or two and let people grieve, and then start making pointless arguments.
MAKE NEW GUN LAWS NOW!
It’s all I heard once I got home today and got on the Internet. Yes, put more gun laws in place when we don’t enforce the ones we already have. Good shit, yo. It’ll be much easier to pass these things on a local/state level but everyone wants the feds to do something about it. It’st the DUMBEST way to do this but go nuts. I know nothing about our political system yet the soccer mom does.
Whatever!
