It baffles me how people are surprised and in a uproar about this. Meanwhile in the Middle East kids are being bombed, in China thousands of kids are sold into slavery, and in Africa 40,000 children under age five die every day from hunger and preventable diseases. Once this stop trending on twitter, that’s when we will see if anything changes. We saw what happened with Kony.

Speaking of predictability, I honestly expected some thing like this to happen before Christmas, especially with that “lackluster” shooting in Portland, Oregon that possibly gave the shooter(s) “courage” to finally do it.
As such, I have to ask this again, like I think I did almost a year ago: As much as both the news and I get horror-boners–@Kromo–from the suffering and misery of others, can we just make a general thread for “America’s School Shooting Tour and its Spin-offs”? At the very least, we’d get everyone kvetching about gun control who are never going to agree either way in one thread rather than it recurring so damn frequently.
Other than that, all I’m going to do is quote a bunch of shit, as per usual:
Yeah, there’s no reason to watch TV really save some of the movie channels, Syfy and whatever your channels your favorite couple of non-reality TV series are on. The national news is pretty much never informative, which is why I’ve made it a point only to try to watch the local news if I watch it at all. For instance, this incident has now already been reported non-stop for at least the past 6 hours straight.
Just let that marinate.
That said, as much as the news is a useless sack of shit, they actually aren’t all that wrong with the number jumping around: 18 kids died at the school, 2 supposedly died on the way to hospital or at the hospital, 6 more adults were killed and the 27 comes from counting the shooter himself who supposedly committed suicide.
They were totally dead wrong about it being a “Ryan Lanza” at all apparently, though, which is extra “hilarious” with the Facebook thing.
Considering how white this Newton, CT places seems, I’d imagine that’s because it’s pretty difficult to “stand your ground” against kids with a skin color the American public at large actually gives a damn about. Just a guess.
Key word being “should”. He probably won’t bother unless he wants to get stuck in court for months, if not years.
Personally, I blame The Walking Dead, especially since there’s a video game of that now, so it’s a two-fer.
You know what’s even better? The fact that, aside from maybe the two kids who died on the way to or at the hospital, the other parents don’t get to officially know for a while since the police have to officially identify all the bodies first, which will take at least a day.
