I’ve got a few of my matches on YouTube! I still have a lot to learn but I think I’m doing rather well.

and I competed in a tourney not too long ago and this was my favorite match:

Where dem anti-airs at, dawg?!
I’m not quite sure I agree with the focus attack at the end… he could have broke that and passed through the orb with ex slide…
lol at the super chip… I would have jumped in, and then did ex drill
Haven’t played Rose in a while, changed sticks and I swear I have to get used to those 1-frames again now that my right wrist has been healed for a while. Offline casuals with friends

vs Gen … first time doing this matchup ever, lots of “d’oh!” moments ensue.
Are both of you just starting out? The other guy’s a pretty newbie Juri if you ask me. She had no fireballs, keep landing on and not teleporting your Soul Sparks, and (the hallmark of a new Juri user) liked the divekick a little too much. On the other hand, you could have anti-aired her (c. hp is great for those obvious jumps, Soul Throw to an extent too) and zoned/pressured her a lot better too.
And you should’ve given her DA BALLS when she missed the Ultra.
I’m surprised both players went with ultra 2. I think U1 is the better pick for Adon and Rose, since they both shut down zoning options, and it’s rare when Rose gets 2 goes with U2 since Adon has a lot of safe and armor breaking moves. Rose nearly had 3 goes with U2 at one point.
I don’t think that Adon has played very many Roses. doubt there are very many Roses in the arcade. Wasn’t doing any option selects, or really ready to deal with focus backdashing. Also let Rose do many c.MP xx spirals rather than ever punish in between the gap.
But they did seem to be covering option selects and other things in the latter half of the vid. Thanks
I started playing Street Fighter a few months back late-2011 (maybe around October), but yes, I’m just starting out. And thank you for your critique. I never think about using Soul Throw because I worry about executing it and timing it right. I don’t know about the other guy, though, since this was online.
Okay! I finished the vid but, I wasn’t sure if you wanted help at first. I can give a more detailed help write up later, once I watch it again after work. :china:
Okay, having watched it again… just some general stuff.
Soul Sparks are pretty slow and normally a bad idea (especially characters with better fireballs) outside of full screen range. If your opponent has fireballs, you’re generally better of using reflects instead. Familiarize yourself with all her normals as well, so you can utilize her counter-hit game to the fullest, and you can apply pressure without really having to fireball.
Get comfortable with the drill/Soul Spiral, and its combos. They can be hard at first, but you’ll get there eventually. Start with things like c. mp to drill or c. mk to drill, and c. hp to drill, and branch out from there. Beware if it gets blocked though. I’m still guilty of this, but lk drill is actually less safe than the mk or hk versions. It’s not really in your favor to have a drill get blocked though.
Don’t activate Ultra 2 from too far away, it’s just a waste because either a) you’ll waste timer trying to get close to them or b)you need to force them to get closer to you (which wastes the timer) which probably isn’t happening. It’s better to activate when near, preferably with a setup e.g. after a knockdown from a throw.
That’s all I can think of, the additional stuff might be advanced stuff already. I’m sure some of the better players can add better feedback too. Hope this helps!
Keshikaran mentions that Shinchan probably didn’t know the matchup and that U1 (for Adon) would have been much worse for him (he also mentions that Rose is a strong character if you don’t know the matchup but is weak if you do lol). Keshikaran prefers U2 in general for the pressure and comeback factor with mixups, I think he used U1 in a couple matches.
I think Illusion Spark is meant to be used with precise timing. Like even when we know a person’s going to jump, and they do, if you don’t wait, you could pay. It only has like 8 active frames I believe.
Also about Adon with U1, I’m mostly just curious about how Rose would’ve played if Adon had it at the ready. It can also mess with her ground offense which is critical. She doesn’t want to be a jumpy character.
I made a little Rose safe-jump tutorial. I intended to include some slightly more complex setups and all of that junk but i wanted to start on something basic first so i can get down all the recording and alll of that.
So, as I mentioned on the ‘general discussion’ thread, I’m reasonably new to SFIV at anything other than a casual level and, on the advice of a couple of local players, switched from Ryu to Rose a couple of months ago.
One of the pieces of advice I often see on this site is to use these video threads so, as embarrassing as it is, I thought I’d pop a few videos on here for criticism and tips (I know I do lots wrong - I jump way too much, for example - but I figure any constructive criticism is useful).
I wasn’t entirely sure what replays to use - in the end I figured that ones where I win easily or barely get to throw a punch probably fit the bill less than fights where I actually, y’know, fight. So, with huge apologies for the quality:
