PSN Tutorial: Sharing Your Downloadable Games

Apparently people are not aware that (or how) they can share their PSN downloads. I thought I’d take some of my time aside and teach you guys how to do it.

First and foremost, I’d like to remind you to do this with PEOPLE YOU TRUST. After all, it does require for the person you are sharing your games with to log in to your PSN account to acquire the games. I am currently sharing with one of my RL friends and with SunocO, who I’ve come to trust in my few months here so far at SRK.

This works with a maximum of FOUR times. Once you’ve shared with 4 people, you’re capped. No more sharing. This is on a per-game basis.

Sony DID intend to do this. You will not be breaking any rules or risking losing your PSN account by doing this. They will, however, release some games as unsharable. You should take the time to read if a game is sharable or not in the fine print if you plan on sharing it with someone.

CURRENTLY UNSHARABLE GAME(S):
[] Warhawk (You can technically share this, but it can’t be played on any account other than the one that bought it. Also, after someone plays it, it is locked on all other PS3s sharing it for 24 hours.)
People were under the impression that you can’t, but YES you CAN share Tekken 5 & Super Puzzle Fighter.*

If you’re the one who’s sharing, here are some tips:

  1. Clear your billing info.
  2. Change your PW, ESPECIALLY if you use the same one for other shit (SRK, E-mail).
    **
If you’re having games shared with you:**
  3. Make a new user on your PS3.
  4. Go to Sign up for PSN, there will be an option to use an existing account.
  5. Sign in to the account of the person sharing games with you.
  6. Go to the PSN Store.
  7. Go to “Download List” at the upper right (This will display all games that person has downloaded, including those that they bought. It will be much faster than looking for them in the store.)
  8. Start DLs of the games you want.
  9. After you’re finished DLing, go back onto your account & install.
  10. **Do not delete the user account that logs into the other person’s account. IF YOU DO, THE GAMES YOU DOWNLOADED FROM THEM WILL STOP WORKING. You can play the games on your account though.
    **
Remember, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE LOGGED INTO THE PERSON WHO IS SHARING WITH YOU’S ACCOUNT TO PLAY. YOU ONLY HAVE TO BE LOGGED IN TO THEIR ACCOUNT TO DOWNLOAD THE GAMES. PLAY ON YOUR OWN ACCOUNT! (The sole exception being Warhawk, which you most likely won’t want to share anyway).

For the hell of it, a link to the PSN:

Theres nothing really worth sharing yet… Im sure everyone here that has a ps3 has DR and probably MK2. I really cant think of anything else worth sharing available through PSN.

Haha.

DR and MK2 here.

i dont have tekken 5 at all. so what do i have to do in order for someone to share that?

A friendly reminder. Read the instructions thoroughly, especially #8. That’s a key step, cause your shared games will stop working if you don’t listen to it.

Another friendly reminder. THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL. Once again, SONY INTENDED FOR US TO DO THIS. Read the fine print on the games, it says you can share them with up to 4 PS3s.

super stardust i’m pretty sure is worth sharing.

question for number 8 - so pretty much as long as their account is somewhere on the ps3 then the games will still work, correct? stupid example - i make an account called MIKE and put in the PSN info for epp1e, and download everyday shooter. if i delete MIKE, then everyday shooter won’t work, even though it’s on the ps3. correct or incorrect? if this is correct, then wouldn’t i be able to re-enter your info onto another account for the game to work?

#8 - Not sure if it’s true… but I figure better safe than sorry

Could we share addons I need TK5 DR addon.

It’s not illegal, but its intent is not to “share” the games as you put it. It’s meant for you to be able to get your downloaded games to a replacement or new ps3 systems that you get.

If the intent was to share the games for up to four friends, then you wouldn’t need to log on as yourself on another system or divulge any sensitive information (such as billing information, your password, etc).

The PSP has a “game sharing” option, as a means for other players who don’t own the game to play in a multiplayer session. Surely, if Sony had intended similar functionality, it wouldn’t put the user through the rigmoral of the above.

Same here man

I wonder if this could be used on Rock Band tracks…

if anyones interested i have mortal kombat 2, crash1, crash 2, crash warped, crash team racing, high velocity bowling, poker, destruction derby, medievil, and a heap of rock band songs for trading, im after pain, teken 5, and any good ps1 games. If anyone wants to trade let me know

Just to clarify…

Say i have mk2 & Tekken…I shared Mk2 to three different people…Does that mean i can only share Tekken to one other person & that’s it? or I can share MKII up to 4 times & Tekken to any other people 4 times?

per-game basis

Every game can be shared with 4 people (downloaded 5 times).

im pretty sure its not a per game basis, you can only have 5 systems linked to your account regardless of what they have downloaded onto them

^ any confirmation to this? i too think its a per system link, not a per game link.

EDIT: AAND! if it is per system link, how do you cut one system off to share with someone else?

EVERY game you bought can be download 5 times.

For ex.: You bought MK2 and Crash. You downloaded the games and 4 more people can download MK2 and 4 more other people can download Crash.
