Suggestions? The Final is more than 1 game : )
Thanks for running this again though as everything went smooth and quick.
Agreed. Single elim is that much harder to play in online.
Elt, I can help out if you want.
If it’s Monday or Tuesday, yay.
I’m down to help if needed on a Fri or Sat night
Schedule at work is changing again will be off those nights but working late the rest of the week
Bump… I think I had some suggestions in the last tourney thread, and elt did go with one 5-round match the last time.
In the interest of less confusion, it’s probably best to stick with best of three 3-round matches. Isn’t that how most offline tourneys go? The finals could be best of five matches.
Doesn’t matter to me about declaring the character for the tournament, but obviously the winner should always stick with same char during an encounter.
But here’s another wild-ass idea:
Do a set of pool play prior to the bracket. Divide the players into four roughly equal-sized pools, and each player plays one 3-round match vs. the others in their pool. That would help in cases where the number of participants leaves a lot of byes in a first round bracket. After settling the tie breakers, you’d take the top two from each pools and seed them into an eight-player bracket and go from there…
Granted, this involves more tracking, match making, and most importantly: time. However, each player would be guaranteed a certain number of matches (one vs. the others in their pool) rather than one-and-done, so the players should find it worthwhile.
Anyway, I think it could be done in one night by assigning pool leaders with the pool members gathering in text chat rooms for match logistics and results gathering. Perhaps I was paying to much attention to the FIFA tournament, so I’ll stop there.
The tourney last week was simple, it was fast, and it was fun. That’s pretty hard to beat, IMHO.
What’s up? Are we doing this tourny?
I’m definitely down for another tourney.
agreed! Monday or Tuesday FTW!
I’m down for an HDR tourney.
Looks like eltwopee won’t be organizing an HDR tournament anytime soon since he has moved onto SFIV.
I’m game to organize something for either late next week and/or early the following week. Here’s a rough sketch…
Date: Thursday July 16 and/or Monday July 20.
Time: 11PM ET, 10PM CT, 9PM MT, 8PM PT.
Signup: Specify PSN and character.
Restrictions: Use same character throughout. Akuma is not allowed.
No Shows: I’ll keep track…
Games: Best of three 3-round matches (finals included).
Format: Round robin pool play followed by a single elimination bracket. Each pool would have between 4 and 6 players, with the top 2 from each pool advancing to the bracket. 1st Tiebreaker: total rounds lost. 2nd tiebreaker: one 3-round match.
Heck, maybe the pool play is more trouble than it’s worth. Since this is the first time for me, I’m going to play it a little loose and I’ll solidify the format later.
Signups for both dates initially in this forum, and once there are enough players I’ll make new threads.

Sweet, thank you for considering having it on a weekday. I’d be able to play on a Monday for sure. My characters are Dee Jay and Honda.
Wow Titan, thanks for organizing bro.

Titan put me in. I think I’ll play Rog this time.
I guess I’ll get in on this. I got nothing better to do on a weeknight anyways. Sign me up. Chars: Cammy, Blanka, T.Hawk, Fei Long.
Hey no prob organizing… I just hope I do as good a job as the other guys. It’s a good excuse to get all the talented and great folks from here together for a little button mashing. Not that we need tourneys to do that because it happens every night - we just need a little help from PSN.
I’ll have yet to flesh out (read: borrow and steal) the rules, but there won’t be any surprises (or prizes). Just common sense stuff…
Count me in for Rog too.
You better bring it DJ, my ROG has learned some new tricks this week
