PSN has been laggier than usual all week?

I logged in for the first time this week on Wednesday to play SF4AE. EVERY connection, even if it was green bar, had consistently heavy lag (not necessarily input delay, but gameplay slowdown, stuttering, and dropped inputs). Everyone I asked about it said they were experiencing the same thing all week; that it’s an issue with PSN. Yet when I search online for this issue, I can’t find any mention of it. I noticed the connections have been better later at night, like after midnight EST. I’m from NJ on Optimum Online. The only game I’ve tried is SF4, so maybe it’s exclusive to SF4. My questions are:

  1. Has anyone here experienced the same thing? Or has anyone else from my area on the same ISP not had problems?

  2. Any ideas what’s causing the problem and when will it be fixed?

What’s really puzzling about this is that I always believed fighting games like SF4 didn’t rely on PSN/XBL servers for netplay (other than to find matches). It should be a direct connection between the two players, no?

P.S. I haven’t tried it today to see if it’s working yet.

Had the same thing playing GVG

Are you still having issues? I’m surprised nobody else here seems to have any problems. Myself and everyone I talk to on PSN are still getting unusual lag. SF4 is unplayable.

I have noticed some stuttering issues when playing, but that’s not why I’m posting. The last couple days, after a match when you click ‘X’ to exit, the game sort of freezes for a 15 seconds or so, and when I start the next match, I notice I’ve lost points like I’ve been penalized for quitting, even though the match is already over. It’s almost always after a win as well. I should have nearly 2k PP, but am now down to a little over 800. At first I thought it was just the rain we had the last couple days, but my last 3 wins this afternoon the same thing has happened. Not a cloud in the sky.

Starting to seriously piss me off.

I had this problem just a couple days ago, but I fixed it with a static ip and port forwarding the games I play. Lag be gone.
