PS4 vs PC - Pros/Cons

Hopefully if they let us set max pings to search for that won’t be an issue.

The thing about PC is, steam fucked a lot of people by region locking. For example I am in the Caribbean and I can play with the US east coast just fine. Now since everyone in the US chooses same region I RARELY see a US flag to play with. So I have to end up playing with people from places even further away or from Canada, stuck in the same situation as me.

For that reason alone I am switching to ps4.

So find out if its the same story for sf5…

It will be. This is done by steam, Not Capcom.
Started happening as soon as the change from gfwl because they geolocate. No reason why it would be any different this time around.

Thanks everybody. I’m updating the original post as people comment.

All I wish for is with vsync on on the PC version it matches the PS4 versions input lag.

You mention your points but some are a much bigger deal than others.

With a worldwide setting and friend invites the region lock isn’t that big of a deal.

Buying a stick is a one time cost while paying for live is a yearly cost that will potentially compound to cost more.

PS4 can be a physical disc which can be traded, PC can’t.

You say it because you haven’t experienced it. Take me as an example with usf4 on steam. Currently I can only play by setting the matchmaking to “any” region. If I set it to “same” it does not find competitors because the Caribbean has a low player base.

Out of those people I find who set it up to any half are Europeans (unplayable lag due to distance) the rest are Canadians (decent if on the east). And rarely I get to see US accounts from the east coast that I can play perfectly…

Someone in the US with such a large player base really has no reason to set their matchmaking to “any” which is why i rarely see anybody…

Then there is the added problem of. You find a US flag with a green connection, probably in Miami. Join their lobby and they auto kick you despite the green bars because you don’t have a flag and they assume you are far away.

On PSN you set up your account to US. Find games no problem, just make sure you pick the green bars.

I think it’s better to leave it up to whomever’s reading the list to decide which of the points a big deal or not to them. We all have different priorities, budgets, and current equipment.

Good call, this is kind of a dick move on Steam’s part. Wish there was a way to fake region maybe.

Also there is a lot of talk of psn being a negative. It has great value for 50 bucks, potentially over 60 games a year and games at a steep discount.

Any laptop is more portable than ps4, not just steam machine. My laptop isn’t new and will run sfv easily from released specs.

Tool assisted players are extremely rare, will affect you no matter which platform you buy due to cross play and are usable on any platform. Moot point.

PC also allows the use of extra training tools that affect dummy actions and is the better training platform due to alt tabbing to any resource /YouTube/browser etc IMO.

I will buy a ps4 for games anyway but not for sfv.

Well this is a problem of how SF4 handles its matchmaking on all systems; not really a problem for just PC. You even mention the workaround you use is just to make a US account on PS3. Are you sure you will be able to do that on PS4 considering you need PSN+ to play online now? I dont have a PS4 so i dont know if PS+ is console wide on there and all new accounts you make have PSN+. But we should be asking Capcom to have a ping based matchmaking since ultimately that is what will determine how good the connection should be, bar no other factors like packet drops and jitter etc.

You can make alt accounts on ps4. Everyone does it to get into other region betas/free games. It isn’t regional locked

But does PSN+ apply across them all? The whole point of this guys complaint is that he has to switch accounts to play the game online. Yeah you can make an account, but if you have to rebuy PSN+ everytime then its not exactly an attractive option.

It does. If the main account on the console has PS+ than it will be shared among all the other accounts on the console.

I don’t get your point. I make a US account and put PS+ on it. Why would I need / want any additional account?

Well, I am gonna get the PC version anyway since I don’t have a PS4. I’m just waiting for the announcement of the second beta phase schedule to preorder on steam.

Hey guys, do you think my processor i7-4700HQ 2.50 GHz will be an issue? Even though it’s an i7, the clock frequency is lower than the recommended. My laptop also got 12 GB RAM and GTX 860M. It’s my only option to play the game now.

you should be doing pretty good, your specs are really good
